Laurel and Hardy: Harvest Moon, The Flying Deuces [Skiffleboom.com]

Фильм және анимация

Laurel and Hardy star in 1939's "The Flying Deuces," in which the duo join the French Foreign Legion. This is a clip of Ollie singing "Harvest Moon" while Stan shows his moves.
One of my childhood favorites, the rights to this movie now reside in the public domain!

This is beyond priceless. How Ollie's expression changes when he hears the music switch...."Hey, that's OUR song!" Then he tips his hat which means it's ON now! Look at the soldiers....some just grinning ear to ear....one has an accordion!!! God Bless the Boys! The Greatest of all times!

@Jim Newcombe Very well put! Laurel and Hardy were THE muses of comedy! Today there are only pretentious semicomedians with plenty of vulgarity, short on wit...sign of the times! Or as Laurel and Hardy would say: Oh tempora, oh mores!!!

it's really hilarious how it was obviously shot on the studio lot. You can see the words "HANGAR" on the buildings in the background. Still, a beautiful moment in the film. How many movies today would take the time to have their lead actor sing a song like this which was completely irrelevant to the plot?

Absolutely brilliant and beautiful. I will never get tired of watching this or "At the Ball, That's All," from _Way Out West_ . Who else could make such ridiculous scenes where two guys break out in graceful song and dance in incongruous places and situations for no good reason totally believable? Perhaps it's the simplicity and lack of bells and whistles.

Who will not agree that these were the greatest couple of dear friends who ever graced the Hollywood film industry. They were not astute in business, so did not become millionaires. However, their contribution to film comedy was superb. They finished their wonderful career with a couple of tours of the English variety circuit in 1947 and 1952. They appeared, in front of the new Queen at the time, in the Royal Variety Performance. They made one more film after this. It was called Atoll K.. It was diabolical and should be erased from all memory of this fantastic couple. They actually thought the same as well. Back tracking a bit, Ollie had the most beautiful tenor voice. It is a shame that they did not use it a bit more in their films, Please respond if you agree or disagree.
