    Hi, I'm trying to start Polyend Play from the play button of Launchkey 49 mkiii with no luck. The settings on the polyend are ok because I have Arturia Keystep pro and it works fine starting the Play. Do you know how to send transport from the Launchkey? Thanks!

  • @NovationTV

    @NovationTV

    If you are working in standalone mode and sending MIDI data via a midi cable the transport buttons on the Launchkey will sadly not work. However it is possible to sync all midi connected devices and have one device have global control of transport.

    Can you use the midi usb to play software synths in Logic and the standard midi out to play a synth module together?? I say having a track asigned to the module of course...

  • @NovationTV

    @NovationTV

    3 жыл бұрын

    Both outputs can be used concurrently but they share the same channel. Launchkey essentially features 1 MIDI output that you can send out of the USB/DIN connector, so the synth module and software synth will receive the same data.

    @@NovationTV So I can use both at the same time without any downsides? I want to use USB for logic and Midi out for a synth module. Is there a way to get the knobs and buttons to only register for the USB? I just want to be able to play both without unplugging but I also don't want one thing I press to mess everything up if it's connected to 2. I'd even be ok with abandoning the buttons.

    You can connect Launchkey [Mk3] directly to your computer via USB for software control or connect it to hardware, such as a desktop synthesiser module, via a 5-Pin DIN MIDI cable in order to play and control it using Launchkey.

    That depends on how you want to use it. You can use Components to create bespoke custom modes when connected to a computer: components.novationmusic.com Launchkey will function as a standalone MIDI controller without creating these.

    What Fatar keybed does this controller use?

  • @NovationTV

    @NovationTV

    10 ай бұрын

    Thanks for your interest in that! Launchkey [Mk3] doesn't actually feature a Fatar keybed. If you're considering Launchkey and need a premium keybed, we'd suggest that you try Launchkey 88 [Mk3]. Whilst the Launchkey [Mk3] range keybed performs very well, the keybed used on Launchkey 88 [Mk3] is different to the rest of the range and is ultimately superior. When creating Launchkey 88 [Mk3] we performed blind testing with many keybeds, from various manufacturers, including Fatar and the one that unanimously came out on top was the one that we used.

    @@NovationTV Thanks for your reply. I noticed you preferred not say which actual keybed you went with? To some, this is a pedantic issue, for me it’s fundamental. There is of course your older Novation 49 SL Mk2 which I’ve heard uses the Fatar TP9/S which, and if thats true, then thats the one I’ll buy because that keybed is used on the Mini Moog Voyager, Dave Smith Synths likecthe Prophet, Studiologic Sledge etc and for me, that is the best synth keybed I’ve come across. Keybed ps are vital for me. Take Korg. Fantastic synths let down by dreadful keybeds - I always buy their rack versions. I hear what you are saying that the keybed on the Launch key isn’t Fatar. I guess its personal choice. I won’t go into the 88 note keybeds. Thats a minefield of physics v feel, but having tried all the Fatar 88 note beds, on Kurzweils and various Nords, and Roland’s I eventually went with the Yamaha CP88. For me nothing comes close to the fell of a real piano keybed like the Yamaha CP88. Some might say, well why do you want that keybed to emulate a grand piano, to which I say, why build and deploy an 88 nite weighted keybed then? Personally, I which all manufacturers would publish which keybeds they deploy, because I have bought so many synths and sold them on because the keybeds are simply not engaging enough with the synth engine. And I’m not alone, some people actually buy the Nord A1 for the synth engine and replace the keybed with the Fatar TP9/S as used on all the best pro level synth manufacturers. Moog, Dave Smith, etc, engineers, can’t all be wrong.

    That's right. We have used Fatar products in the past, for our SL and UltraNova for example. If you currently require a MIDI controller keyboard that features a Fatar keybed and won't consider anything else, you'll be interested to know that Launchkey [Mk3] don't feature Fatar.

  • @NovationTV

    That's not the case. Launchkey [Mk3] features 5 Pin DIN connectivity for the purpose of connecting to and controlling external devices via MIDI, as demonstrated in this video. Perhaps you're referring to the original Launchkey or Launchkey [Mk2]? They don't feature 5 Pin DIN connectivity as they're primarily designed as software controllers. @@NovationTV nope it is the launch key mark three that I believed had the issue. However what’s not clear from novation is the type of MIDI cable you need to connect it to another device. For example you need a “MIDI TRS type A”nowhere is that explained so consumers like myself have to go through a lot of pain to work it out very poor.. I will be making a video to explain it so other people don’t make the same mistake.

    We're sorry to hear that you hadn't been aware of that. The smallest device in the range, Launchkey Mini [Mk3], does indeed feature TRS MIDI connectivity. You can connect to other 'Type A' TRS MIDI devices directly using a standard 3.5mm Stereo minijack cable. Alternatively, a TRS to DIN adapter can be used to connect to devices via 5 Pin DIN. support.novationmusic.com/hc/en-gb/articles/360009110480-Novation-TRS-MIDI-ports-compatibility
