The Songo can feel alien at first, especially with no bass drum on beat 1, but once you get a feel for it's flow it's a super satisfying groove to sit in.

VERY cool Nick!! Latin grooves are great!! Used to love playing sambas etc with my SUPER talented mate on percussion in our old band Supa Tumba .. This one does look like a bit of a mind bender though .. Seeing as it’s linear as you say may make it easier … Your adaptation sounds AMAZING!!! Even more mins bending!!! VERY slick work me ole son!!! 👊🏻👊🏻
Super cool. I’ve recently learned a few other variations of songo, Beyond the Back Beat ex. 49 which is a bit busier with left hand open HH hits… Anyways, I’ll be adding this to my arsenal of grooves too. It gives me a more simplified version. Thanks a bunch Drum Dog!!!🎉 Cheers!

Songo it's a Cuban groove, created by Cuban percusionist Jose Luis Quintana "Changuito". There's a famous video with Dave weckl learning songo from Changuito
