    Thanks for the thorough testing with different ways to connect. I'm using zigbee2mqtt myself so I'm a little biased, but it's great to see the variations across the platforms 😁

    I paired their 06p mmWave sensor to the new third reality matter bridge successfully. I can't wait to try this too.

    I am a little surprised at the choice of a 2477 bttery given most Zigbee Motion Sensors use 2450 and as you mentioned, temp and humidty sensors the 2032. 2477 is not a common size in stores here in Australia, but I can get 2450 and 2032 everywhere. Still, if the battery does last 3 years, that wouldn't be too bad still. Looks like a nice sensor. Nice that ZHA and Z2M both have good support for these devices too. I use ZHA now, just to keep my list of addons and custom components down.

    Yeah, the choice of battery is a bit strange one, but as you've said, it's only once in few years - so not a big issue.

    Interesting, the 03 is square and the 03p is the one you're showing. They're not showing up on Amazon yet here in the UK, but a good incentive to try itead.

    Thank you for the video. New to this, watched your entire video but I still couldn.t get an answer: what does the 5s to 60s detection time mean exactly? Does it mean scan interval, to conserve battery life? So say if it.s set to 60s it only scans once every minute? So if it scanned at 8:00:00 and someone starts moving around at 8:00:01, it won.t feel him and it won.t send an event that he is moving. It.ll send an event only if he is still moving at 8:01:00? To rephrase: does it constantly, permanently scan for motion, and if it detects it, does it send the event straight away? Or is the 5s-60s detection setting thingy a gimmick in order to save battery and therefore this device can.t be used in a scenario where you need the light to turn on the split second that motion has been detected? Thank you!

  • @BeardedTinker

    @BeardedTinker

    It does scan constantly, or gets triggered constantly, but interval is what's used to ignore next detection. That's the period it stays in a triggered state (5-60 seconds) before it can be triggered again. Hope I've managed to explain it 😂

    I have one of the original sonoff zigbee PIR sensor.. boy is it bad. I'm very wary of getting another one from sonoff, especially after having had the same bad experience with the sonoff zigbee window/door sensor. Aqara blows everything out of the water.. I wonder if this is worth it (for me it's half the price of aqara)

    I've just posted another reply here - I've been testing it for around 10 days. Version I got is experimental version made for prototyping - it has issue with LED that is too dim (actually that could be a plus for some) and button is very soft. Those two things have been corrected in final product. As for sensitivity - I was comparing it to the Shelly Motion sensor - covering same spot to see if there are any differences in detection and in 10 days haven't seen any - but again that's not very scientific testing. It's not pointed to any windows or heating elements to avoid false detection. But in terms of Aqara, yeah, so far I've been more than happy with them as they do work great.

    I received the Sonoff SNZB-03P today but it isnt recognised by zigbee2mqtt edge. It is seen but zigbee2mqtt edge shows this as an unsupported device. Was it the SNZB-03P that you paired?

  • @macartanmcquaid22
    @macartanmcquaid225 ай бұрын

    I paired a few of these devices over the weekend, not overly impressed with them TBH. They are not very responsive, probably 1-2 seconds before it triggers for movement. Also, the light level in Z2M only shows bright or dim as the options, no variation of either so customisation on an automation isn’t pretty limited. I also have an issue, just like their new Presence sensor, where I am unable to access the illuminance value from within the automation setup screen, I’ve no idea what is going on with that 🤷🏼‍♂️ I think we’re still better of just paying a bit extra and buying the Philips Hue motion sensor, they are very reliable and use easy to source batteries…

  • @BeardedTinker

    Yes, I think I've mentioned that part in video. You only get bright and dim - it doesn't provide any value, but you can also use that in automation to for example only turn light on if there is motion and it's dim. In terms of speed of response, I haven't noticed any significant delay. But that may be just me missing it.

  • @macartanmcquaid22

    @macartanmcquaid22

    Yes, you do mention that it only shows dim and bright alright in your video 😎 But, I’m not sure how you are able to access this value in an automation. I am unable to use it, just like I couldn’t for their new presence also. I can see the value when looking at the devices but if I select the sensors in an automation, the illuminance isn’t one listed in the drop down list 🤷🏼‍♂️ I shared a link in my reply to you on the presence sensor, I’m really baffled 🤦🏼‍♂️🤔

    @@macartanmcquaid22 - I've used this as condition: condition: state entity_id: sensor.snzb_03p_illumination state: "bright" You can't use device state, instead use entity state.

    I meant to reply sooner, that worked for me. I hadn’t used states in automations before, learning all the time 😎 It’s a pity the definition of dim and bright cannot be adjusted. I’ve found that it’s throwing dim when it’s still pretty bright so lights are coming on too early… For Philips Hue sensors and Aqara sensors in my own house, I see in Z2M there is the functionality to adjust the lux reading but this doesn’t seem to make any difference. When mine are reading 0 lux and I set the calibration to 15, the sensor still shows 0… Perhaps this is not how it should work?

    my experience with the old version from Sonoff is not great, I have a bunch in my shelf because of false positive.. how reliable is it during your tests?

  • @BeardedTinker

    @BeardedTinker

    7 ай бұрын

    Hard to say - I've tested it for around 10 days so far. Used it on very frequent location and haven't notices any false positives so far - but also, I was part of the time out working. It's not pointed to any windows or radiators as they may impact PIR performance and give false positives. That was comparing it to Shelly Motion sensor over WiFi - covering same spot so I can see in history logs any differences.

    AAA batteries are larger than a device is - so not sure how they would fit it inside - you probably missed that part of the video where I showed AA and AAA batteries and commented on that.
