Latest RP2040 PicoFly *2024* : Nintendo Switch Lite Install

Nintendo Switch OLED Install: • Latest RP2040 PicoFly ...
Join me for an Install of the Latest RP2040 into a nintendo Switch. This includes to new ribbons for mounting the Chip over the Ram rather than eMMC like previous.
*I don't condone piracy* This Switch has been modded so the Tegra X1 can run at the original clock speeds Nvidia intended.
Also by modding the console with the Picofly 2040, you are able to back up your NAND memory. As the eMMC and NAND is linked to the CPU, so should the NAND chip ever fail, your Switch Lite doesn't become an expensive brick.
This is advanced micro soldering, so copy at your own risk.

    This might be the clearest, most concise guide I've seen yet on the Switch Lite PicoFly install. Underrated channel, I like your style. I have a kit sitting at home that I just ordered, and as soon as I find some free time I'll be trying my hand at installing it. Not expecting any trouble, thanks to fine videos like this one. I've got all the equipment I should need, so hopefully within a few days I'll have my Switch Lite modded.

    @@QTronics Take my time, hell, I took about four hours with it! Way more than I bargained for. TL;DR it works. The APU flex cable was a leisurely breeze to install. The toughest aspect of that job was taking off the heat shield - I wound up just using the same plastic spudger that came in my PicoFly kit, and I was surprised it worked so well after watching everybody else force those tiny retaining clips. The other flex cable, I tossed aside after a while. Even after installing it as well as I could, my PicoFly kept flashing out an error code of two short pulses. After that I figured it'd be easier to string up everything else manually using some enameled wire, and it probably would've been, if my digital microscope weren't so damn low res! So that's an upgrade I'll need to look into sooner or later. But I digress. The bulk of my time was spent soldering and then re-soldering magnet wire to test pads. It was maddening. For a hot minute there, I thought I killed my Switch Lite. Must have been some eMMC test pads got bridged after I discarded the second flex cable, once I cleared them up it came back to life (hopefully no damage done). And eventually, after considerable anguish and perseverance, I was greeted with the "No SD Card" screen! And I don't think I need to tell you, it felt glorious. After all that time, it felt a little bit like winning the lottery. Just buttoned it back up a few minutes ago, with some fresh, high performance jizzle to help cool the system. Next step is to find a big old microSD card.

    I was trying to buy this chip, but I didnt notice until now that its a bit different. It looks like the v6 instinct chip, but its a picofly. Should be basically the same right? The only difference I see is that the cable goes over the ram, under the cpu cover and bends back up into the chip instead of coming out the top of the cpu sheild. Im probably just overthinking it, but worried i got a bunk chip since i cant find any video tutorials on that exact chip (i found instinct version videos that look the same, but no picofly).

    Hi, yeah that’s the latest variant based on the. instinct v6s. Everything is the same, except like you said the cpu wire comes out over the ram. You normally have to cut the ram shield a bit. Sthetix has an instinct install :kzread.info/dash/bejne/hGh7mZuupcudqc4.htmlsi=EmMwlPvobXkh-t5b I’d follow the cpu part on that. As im sure the instinct has extra soldering points for the other part compared to the pico. Hope that helps

I was able to install one of these today, with only a few hours of soldering experience under my belt (practiced by bridging some tiny connections on old Xbox controller boards). Couldn't have done it without this video though. No idea where to go from "No SD Card" though. Finding good info on the software side is more of a task than learning to solder it seems. I'm going to check your video list and see if you have anything on it because again, this video was super helpful.

I could look at doing a video on that. If you’re after anything related to running your own back ups the best im willing to offer is this link :rentry.org/SwitchHackingIsEasy. If you’re looking to back up your carts though and play them, the Mig Switch cart might be worth looking at. As after you installed the mod, you would be able to make your own personal back ups. Is that flex new ? is there any benefit with this new flex ?

  • @QTronics

    @QTronics

    4 ай бұрын

    Yeah it's a new flex. The main benefits are it allows you to move the Picofly board to sit over the RAM rather than the eMMC ( like how the oled installs). It also allows you to only need one APU ribbon cable for both the Oled and Switch lite, so if you're doing a few installs it means you can just order one lot of boards. I personally found when the picofly board sits on the eMMC it's too close to the APU shielding so the wire for the APU has to bend in a awkward way, this eliminates that.
