Another KZread member commented to me that the kick drum is the key to the pattern in the beginning. He was right as it creates a poly-rhythm with the hi-hat when the hi-hat comes in. It's one of the more complex Danny Carey rhythms and I spent a lot of time breaking it down. I think it's pretty close, so perhaps some of you can learn it as well and we can share our thoughts.
I have figured out how to eliminate all the clipping from the previous version. I hope you like this one better.
It is critical that every drummer develop their own unique style and interpretation. Therefore, I do not memorize any song exactly (although this is pretty close). I have spent 30 years playing drums and have developed my own style, which I prefer. I keep my playing within the framework of the song and will play a part exact if that part is either iconic (like Phil Collins In The Air Tonight) or critical to the success of the song.
