I really like that some plant youtubers are slowing down a bit and not talking like they are not taking a breath. I'd rather watch 30 minutes with relaxed talking than 15 with the same number of words and breathing space edited out (i play those at 0.8 speed now). And I love you dont have an annoying music / elevator tune playing. And everyone deserves a vacation, so take a break if you need it

I was the same as you Claire, begonias never appealed. Until I tried a cane angel wing. Now I have dozens! To the person who asked if suitable for beginners, I would recommend starting with cane types, much easier than tubers in my experience. Good luck 🤞

I just received some “planty mail” about an hour ago. I ordered a hoya heuschkeliana variegata. So it’s my newest plant baby. I’m a sucker for variegation! ❤❤❤

Just now watching this, so I may be too late - but I watched a planterina video where she talked about the variegation on PP getting less as they get larger and older, and she said to propagate to keep it fresh and variegated. Also, I second the comment below that states you don't have annoying background music - love that! And finally, first timer begonia tip: Tuberose begonias go dormant, so if any new planty people buy a tuberous begonia, don't throw it out when it appears to "die":)

I made a D shaped pole this weekend with a vinyl sink dish mat for the front grid! I got it from my local dollar store. It has perfectly sized square grid cut outs and I used dollar store disposable cutting mats for the back. So easy to cut and no pokey wires! Love all of your videos.

To propogate faster, I find more oxygen helps! I got a little oxygen pump that would normally be used for a small fish tank, and put it in with my water props and I swear it's like 5 times faster!! Roots wayyy quicker!

Moss pole: same here. I don´t miss watering or pest treatments, but doing moss poles is the max. procrastination and postponement possible for me (it took me 3 months to get to it since I bought all the stuff for it). I seriously dislike making moss poles :-) I sometimes feel tired of the plants chores too and dont´want to do it anymore - but then I see new growth and how beautiful the plants are and the love for plants is instantly back. The most difficult plants for me: succulents (esp. cacti) and aglaonema. Somehow we don´t understand each other 😀

I work from home so I try to spend the afternoon doing planty stuff. Its doesn't always work that way so i get it. The smell of the earth is so comforting. I cant do evening because i want the sun out and sit in my kitchen space is so sunny then. Love your videos. My orbofolia is struggling. Its roots aren't doing anything after I repotted. I'm an over waterer so have left it but its just not doing well, has light and heat. My heart is with German Shepherds. I had one 30years ago. He was amazing, so good with my babies. Its at the back of my head to get another. Such loving dogs

Love the honest account of living with plants and how it's OK to take a step back, either because you're just not feeling it, or to protect your wellbeing. A plant collection is a big commitment and it can get overwhelming sometimes...other priorities like house chores, laundry, financial check ins etc can start to suffer and mount if you're not careful. I have less than 80 plants, a full time job, a baby, and a five year old, I'd have more plants but I don't have the time or space. Plus there is cost to good plant maintenance and care... I think beyond plant videos being just about plants stuff, how you care for them as well as protect your wellbeing, balance a busy life I.e. like a typical day in your life with other commitments, and a subject not covered: plant addiction and ways to address it. These videos will get wider exposure for their practical applications and because they are very real.I found this video very refreshing, and I totally get doing plant chores late at night (my typical time of doing it after kids are in bed).

Thanks for all the advice on starting a KZread channel I have recently started my own plant channel, motherofplantsnz ,I have been filming on my phone and I'm as awkward as hell but I'm trying, so its absolute crap atm, but I'm going to get a vlogger camera and will try to up my game lol, I've had a few weeks off due to not having a decent camera and my daughter just having scoliosis surgery, but we are going to get back into making content, hopefully better than I've uploaded so far, but watching your video just gave me a boost so thank you so much, I love watching your plant journey.

I have just started my channel a month ago but still getting there 😊 I’m doing repot and plants maintenance while watching this video. I resonate with you about the sibling question although not about the sibling in my case but not having children. I do get a lot of question about why do I not have children as I’m married. It just happened and I like my peace 😊

I've got the same with plant location. The ones I see more through the day get the most attention, in the living room, kitchen and even bathroom. Bedroom ones seem to suffer, so much so I end up putting the ones I'm not as fussed about in there.

Take your time Claire, you must always put yourself first. I do find myself wondering if you are ok when you've been off the scene a bit, but I don't expect you to put pressure on yourself just to please your audience. I find when I'm in a low mood I just concentrate on the needy plants, and generally after a few days I'm ready to get back into full plant care. I love these chill, chatty videos because I can carry on with my planty chores and just listen. I struggle with Spider plants and Begonias. I have one Begonia Cleopatrae and that's only alive because it's in an enclosed terrarium.

Talking about plants that are easy or hard, I can’t keep a snake plant alive while my alocasias and calatheas are thriving. I think it’s because I don’t have a ton of plants in my new home right now and I tend to give too much attention to the ones I have, and my snake plants were not having it. It’s very sad cause I love them and also my very first plant here was a big one we bought. I wanted a hardy plant for the living room, waiting for the furniture to come in and of having a better idea of the room light, humidity, etc. before getting more “finicky” plants. We spent a ton of time at the nursery trying to find the perfect one. So I was really attached to that one plant, I still remember that day we bought her in into the almost empty apartment and we had dinner sitting on the floor next to her. after two years it just started rotting and even though I tried my best I had to let it go. So sad, and although I know it’s my fault because it was for sure over watering, I still feel like I can’t replace it because that was the one I was attached to (and also I am afraid of killing the next one as well 🙈). It’s crazy how much we grow attached to some plants because they hold memories and good moments!

Hey! Alocasia nerd here! I have a variegated frydek and I *think* i’ve cracked the code! So, when I bring any alocasia home I pretty much chop it down to nothing (leaving one leaf and no roots). This is because a stressed alocasia is prone to root rot and spider mites- I know it sounds scary but i’ve had crazy success with this method (a bonus about this is that i harvest corms when doing this… backups!). I then pot up the alocasia in a clear cup with about a centimeter of chunky perlite at the bottom and the rest filled with sphagnum. I water using some super thrive and keep the plant in my grow tent. Within a week or two I start seeing roots! My variegated frydek has been thriving like this! Hope this helps!

For hole punches you can get a candle and a mail or screw (and maybe a pair of vice grips). Hold the tip of the mail/screw in the flame. Hot metal will easily go through plastic. The vice grips are in case the heat travels to the end of the nail/screw that you are holding. On other option is to get a small scrap of wood (or a wine cork) and drive the nail/screw through creating a handle.

I'm having a very planty weekend this weekend as my husband is away on a stag do so I'm just going all in. I'd been running out of KZread videos to watch so this is perfect timing! Also had a few new plants this week, the best being an Anthurium luxurians x forgettii from the Eden Lab which is amazing! Also several cuttings from friends, including a couple of wishlist syngonium and a couple of peperomia frost leaves from Planty Jen's plant that apparently was grown from yours! So I'll be growing your plant's grandbaby 💚
