👍🏻 looking forward to picking up my vest and rod again soon.It’s been hanging on the back of the door since October. But as usual the weather is not going to oblige for opening days. Hopefully it warms up as well to get the bugs out and nicer for us too.

@@IBandAndyFishing I really don't get it either Andy. Just gonna throw this out there, but could it not be as simple as: 1) No Taking of fish ever. 2) No wading if applicable to time of year and regional spawning times. 3) New Type of Licence to cover year round game fishing, which should include a signed certification to say the Angler understands the common sense rules of fish care, and when it is appropriate to fish and when not to fish, for example if it becomes clear the fish need to be left alone, or obvious spawning is happening or continued unnecessary and prolonged pressure is being applied to an area. 4) Fly only and Barbless. 5) Don't write Long replies on you tube that will open a huge can of worms. If i had a private stretch of river, these would be my rules, they may include micro close seasons for a few weeks at a time if i thought a fish River Rest was needed. But I don't own a river which is shit.

The dorsal fin on the big Grayling was beautiful. He looks like a pretty old fish and been around the block a few times. Looks like he survived at least one heron attack.

Thanks Ash, that's really kind! A few folks have said that in the past, I think it comes from guiding, I can't panic when clients are playing fish (I'm not supposed to anyway!). I was bricking it on the inside 🙈😂

A great fishing video Andy, superb Grayling 🎣 I have never done much fly fishing on rivers but you have tweaked my enthusiasm to give it a go this season. What type of hooks are you using for tying the flies?

Can't wait for the trout season. Then boom, this weekend's weather haha. Might go out Monday but the rivers will be gross

Hi buddy. How do you attach the go pro securely to your chest pack?

When I use indicators it's very hard to cast and it gets tangles on the line

Andy, when you are fishing the indicator and three flies what sort of distance do you space your flies out to?

Great question Ian, in the depths of winter I space them about a foot apart, pretty tight. In warmer months that would be more like 18" 👍

Good on you Andy, for retrieving those snags. I would rather burn the hole than leave my trash in the river. On another note, I have seen no other anglers on the water in your videos. What are the rules of access there? Congrats on a fine final season episode.

Hi Ernest, great question about other anglers! Firstly very few of the venues a river fly angler fishes here in the UK are public so there are never lots of folks. Actually on this day there was another angler who I spoke to twice in the few hours I was there, he watched the whole thing with the bigger grayling. We gave each other plenty of space 👍

Hey Andy, what a great show! Finally I get to see an old Bull Grayling! I wanted to see how close the UK Grayling is to the Arctic Grayling visually. Our fish tend to be a bit darker, the females retain a purple sheen while the big males have slightly different banding on their Dorsal fin. Really though there is little serious difference. Do the colours of Grayling change with different waters there? I wish I had pictures of the Grayling out of the Doug River out of Fort St John BC. The river was the colour of Black Tea and the Grayling are so dark a purple they are almost black. I say this safely because the dam they had in for a water injection plant was taken out so the tailwater no longer exists. That is both sad and good I suppose. I hope if we ever get over Covid in this world, I can hire you for a day or two and we can have some time to chat. As always, thank you for doing these great videos with intelligent commentary, been missing IB out with you, please tell her im sending her best wishes

Hi kerry! They're very very similar indeed, though I hear behaviour patterns can vary hugely. Have you seen the Mongolian Giant Grayling?! IB is fine, catching too many fish. She'll be back soon!
