Beautiful indeed. I flew about 150 times on 747-200 and -400 from early 90s to mid 00s, on NWA and KLM. Many great memories aboard the "Whale". And powerful too. Short haul flight, takeoff in 25-30 seconds. Long-haul, fully loaded flight takes forever, uses up 55 seconds and almost the entire runway. Just a few seconds after wheels up no more runway. Exciting.

I totally agree. I took half a day off work to watch the first Qantas 747 arrive in Christchurch, New Zealand in the early 70s. Company or colours make no difference, always impressive.

Just look at it. What a stunning, perfect looking plane, especially in KLM livery. I'll miss it dearly, and will always regret never having flown one.

@@jasminderpinder Lufthansa will keep their 747-400s through 2025 (unless the coronavirus crisis make them think again) their 747-8s will continue for many more years, they're longer and cooler, yeah. The freighter version, the best cargo jet in the world, by the way, will keep getting orders so Boeing won't phase out production yet.

Sad to see these wonderful planes go!! I flew with so many 747s since 1972! Best aircraft ever!! My first trip with a 747 was London to New York 1972! It was my first trip on an airplane ever! 19 years old....and I was stunned by the size of it!

My first time was in 1975 when I was 12yo with my parents. Air France, Nairobi to Paris Orly (and a month later back to Nairobi). I was so excited and also couldn't believe how huge they were inside! I loved the large seats and the bigger meals. In the years since, I have flown in dozens more of different airlines, but my last time was with KLM from Amsterdam to Toronto in 2017. I even re-routed my journey and flight path just so that I could take it. Loved every moment. The B747 has always been my fav airliner.

My first flight ever was on a 747 from Toronto - Vancouver. It was in 1972 and I was 19 years old!! I, too, was awed by the size of it! Still say it was the best plane ever built, and I have flown on a number of types and sizes! Sad to see them being retired.

Great airplane, great airline! I will miss my 747 flights into AMS.

My first ever transatlantic flight was on a KLM 747-400 back in 2006 from AMS-LAX. Will miss them!

Poetic that the Last KLM 747 flight was on "The City of Tokyo"... My first 747 flight was in 1985....to Tokyo (Narita)

Wat een prachtige elegante machine is de B747-400 zeg. In de zomer van 2005 waren er op een dag een hoop mensen op Schiphol gestrand met verschillende bestemmingen in Marokko. Zo'n 3 vluchten als ik me goed herinner. Toen heeft Royal Air Maroc een B747-400 naar Amsterdam gestuurd en alle passagiers in één keer opgehaald, waarna die vlucht 3 bestemmingen in Marokko aandeed, eindigend in Casablanca. Ik zat bij de rechtervleugel en had goed zicht op de motoren. Maar waar ik echt kippenvel van kreeg was toen ik die stoere winglet zag met die groene zwart gerande ster erop. Sindsdien ben ik echt op die 747's gaan letten. Persoonlijk vind ik de passagiers uitvoeringen mooier dan de cargo uitvoeringen vanwege de "bult". Het bovendek van de passagiersuitvoering loopt een stuk langer door en dat vind ik mooier.

Me too, AMS - CUR - AMS in 2009. The 747 is beyond comparison. Really the most elegant and majestic machine ever built. The skies won't be the same without The Queen. I was in the car on the freeway next to the runway when she landed, crying behind the wheel.

I was at Schiphol airport when the first KLM 747 landed, I think it was in 1969. I can still remember the disbelief of my father who could not understand how such a big thing could fly. It is a shame that I could not be at Schiphol airport to watch the last KLM 747 landing, because of that stupid virus. It would have been a nice trip down memory lane for me.

Dankje dat je thuisbleef, ik heb dat ' stupid virus.' Maar ik snap je wel ik ben zelf ook een aviation lover en vooral het geluid met opstijgen wist ik te herkennen, ik woon niet ver van Schiphol en zag de grote vogels langsgaan. Het was vooral een mooi gezicht toen met de Top G7 met al die regerings/ koningklijke kisten. 😀

May the 'Queen Of The Skies' Rest Peacefully after her long and amazing journey all over the world … thank you for this video it certainly was a touching moment.

Flown on these since the mid 80s. Dozens of flights from Joburg to Amsterdam and later from Toronto to Amsterdam. I will miss seeing these arrive twice daily at YYZ..great memories!

I saw them a few times in 1969, being tested on the 5000’ high runway in Reno, Nevada. Then I flew about 300,000 miles in them on PanAm from 1981-1986, commuting from Frankfurt to San Francisco and back every few weeks. During the layover in NY at JFK I always watched the Concorde take off while in the PanAm Clipper Club. I knew I flew in the Maid of the Sea, the 747 that blew up,over Lockerbie, at least 4-5 times. I’ll miss the 747 greatly.

If it's any consolation, they gave her a water salute in Mexico kzread.info/dash/bejne/pIinxMyLdrCbgdI.html It's not quite the same as a water salute 'at home' but at least she was somewhat given the respect she deserves. I do hope Schiphol will give the retirement of the 747 special attention at some later point.

Geen museum in Nederland heeft de ruimte voor nog een 747 (er staat een -200 op Lelystad). En dan zijn er de kosten om hem naar een museum locatie te krijgen...

Bewaren zal inderdaad moeilijk worden. Misschien kan de KLM er zelf nog ergens een plekje voor bedenken. Opslaan kost echter ook plaats en geld. Gelukkig zijn deze mooie beelden er nog.

I was so excited to fly from Amsterdam to Tokyo this November. Never been in a 747... So sad:(

From 1997 until 2013, I flew KLM 747s between Houston and Schiphol so many times I was on a first name basis with the cabin crew. They sure crammed in a lot of seats in coach but the plane always gave a great, smooth ride. I'll miss the big blue 747s.

Nog steeds Het allermooiste vliegtuig van de wereld. De DC3 Dakota op een goede tweede plaats. Heel jammer dat KLM deze week is gestopt met de passagiersversie. Ik hoop nog een paar keer de vrachtversie in de mooie KLM blauwe uitvoering te zien vliegen. Dankjewel voor deze video over mijn meest favorite vliegtuig

Thanks to all the Kim crews and staff over the years who flew myself and my family safely to Hong Kong and back over the years on the 747 when I was working there ...great memories... great plane.....

The closing shot showing its replacement to the right, the 777-300ER and what has pretty much put an end to the 747-400ER career.

I was fortunate enough to fly on 3 different 747's during my life (including once in the upper deck). Air France, KLM and even Air Canada back in the day when they flew 747's. I will miss them. Hopefully Boeing or the Airlines find a way to breath new life into the Queen of the Sky.

I love KLM ! I've just had to cancel my holiday flight with them, can hopefully re-arrange when this COVID madness is over. I fly from Aberdeen to Brussels via Schiphol and back again regularly, it's always a good experience ☺

Ja klopt, maar iedereen begrijpt hopelijk wel dat het om de laatste vlucht ging met passagiers. Er werd niet stil gestaan bij de laatste vlucht full PAX. Niet alleen de BFL en BFN waren full pax. KLM had er totaal 7!

@@JorgdeBruijn1975 Klopt, er waren in totaal meer full pax 747-400's. Maar van de zeven die nu nog bedrijfsvaardig waren waren er twee full pax en vijf Combi. In ieder geval een leuk filmpje van je! 😁

Beautiful blue!

Mooie video! Ik stond er vanmiddag ook en het was een mooie landing. Jammer dat het zon mager afscheid is en mag hopen op een beter afscheid na de corona crisis. Een evt afscheidsvlucht zou fantastisch zijn. Ik heb het geluk gehad om de hele vlucht naar Curaçao in de cockpit te mogen zitten. We gaan je missen B747, Queen of the Sky!

Een afscheidsvlucht zou echt een waardig afscheid zijn idd. Wat geweldig dat je in de cockpit hebt mogen zitten! Hoe heb je dat voor elkaar gekregen?! Ik heb ooit eens tijdens de landing in de cockpit mogen zitten (Transavia 757, vóór 9-11) Een van de meest bijzondere ervaringen ooit!

If you listen closely at 04:05 to 04:20, on the slight spool up and down of the engines, the jumbo sounds like crying: "Why do they fire mie - I did a reliable Job for 20 years, crews and passengeres were happy and satisfied, flying to any city of the world. Every day each passenger would even pay like 500 € to my company -and I can take like 450 of them per flight - and now they dispose of me - and all sister planes. Some of us would be in service not even for 20 years ...... Hope some give us a chance flying as a cargo plane.... :-/" Such a pity, the passenger 747s are about to disappear from the sky and the airports. They are/were such a familiar sight.

most comfortable flight I have ever done, boeing 747 combi schiphol to beijing. a magnificent beautiful aeroplane.

Pleased I got to fly on four 747s (two trips), and the KLM livery is the most beautiful!! Schiphol was our connection to the far East from Cardiff Wales.

Thankfully, many more years of airframe life... this and many more 747s will soar high for years to come moving the most important freight ✈️

Always made it a part of my vacations when in St. Maarten to spend time at Maho Beach just to watch KLM 747's arrive and depart. When they switched over to the A330, it just wasn't the same. It's a nice aircraft, but it's a far, far cry from the Queen of the Skies!

Kunnen ze niet worden "gemoderniseerd" om ze efficiënter te maken. Een heel vliegtuig schrappen en vervanging voot regelen, lijkt me veel duurder. Plus, wie wilt een 787, als je een 747 kan krijgen, efficiënt of niet.

De 747 was nog gemoderniseerd met de 747-8 maar 4 motoren zijn simpelweg te duur nu 2 motoren betrouwbaar en krachtig genoeg zijn.

Technically its probably not the end.... just the end with passengers. It will probably be converted for freight.

@@33mememememe Nope, not these. KLM already said their combo-747's (a combination between the passenger and freight model of the 747) are being converted to freight-only and they don't expect to need anymore freights...

Is the 747 combi still in service?

Ik had gisteren een video ge-upload met laatste vertrek van de B747, die naar MEX 28-03 en 29-03 dus terug kwam. Ik had alleen de verkeerde registratie in comments gezet. De BFW had ik 28-03 als aankomst gefilmd, ook uit MEX.

Anyone knows what happens with these 747's? They re being destroyed?

Blij dat ik hem ooit meegemaakt heb zal hem zo missen maar koop nog wel een schaalmodel van en veel fs 2020 spelen

Zo'n mooi en goed toestel nog, treurig dat hij met pensioen moet :'(
