I love hunting late season when everyone else has harvested their deer and woods is pristinely quiet. Being able to sit in the woods to enjoy the peacefulness and serenity is one of the reasons I hunt. Like you said at this time of the year deer will congregate in large numbers in a few locations. They “yard up” in areas where they have fresh water, browse, and, forest growth that helps them to keep warm. I really enjoy your videos Dan and getting information from another experienced hunter.

This is the reason why I love this guy, never say die. These kids today are set up for failure, not only are the chances slim they shoot a booner but couple that with the fact that they take a beautiful 120 or 130 class deer and it's not what is glorified on KZread or these pro Big Buck hunters, truth is we need to encourage these New hunters to Hunt for the beauty of the great outdoors, the memories created, the Joy of the Hunt, time spent with family and friends and lastly that meat hunting is cool, fact is most will quit after a couple seasons without shooting the Boone and Crockett Buck they're always told is the reason we do it and Dan is one of the few people who understands the true spirit of the Hunt, happy scouting, happy hunting from the grumpy old man in the finger lakes NY

Nice hunt Dan.... I'm already thinking about how I'm going to hunt next year.... Trying to figure out how in the hell I'm going to do that with a L4-L5 disk herniation in my lower back 🤔 first thing on my list is a Garmin in-reach because when the sciatic nerve wants to show up to the party i turn into a pile of mush on the floor no matter where I'm at, so that means ground hunting.

Hey, the same thing happenned to my L5-S1 yrs ago. I couldn't even stand at the sink to get a glass of water! Then I got some epidurals. They helped 50%. I stopped hunting for about 10 yrs because of it! Then, I saw a doc on TV. He said-Walking is the best thing for a bad back- strengthens your core. So, I started walking EVERYDAY. 1st 1/2 mile. Next week- 1 mile, etc, till I got up to 3 miles a day. It REALLY helped! I thought that I would never hunt again. Hey, good luck. I'm old now, but still climb mountains+ walk thru swamps(slowly, Ha!).
@normankaster917

@@turtleman5111 that's the same treatment the doc told me that he wants to get me on ASAP, get the shots and see what I can do to strengthen my core while not having the extreme pain or the numbness in my left leg/ foot/ hip.... My mind is going crazy thinking about what I've had planned for the next 10 years and the "what if's" that come with that....I really appreciate the info and that things can get better with out surgery... I'm just scared that it gets better and I feel good "even though this pain is something that I will never forget" then I go on a elk hunt to Idaho or Colorado and end up needing a chopper ride out. My goal is getting better and taking it easy, it's been 4 weeks now and some pain is getting better but I think that's the steroids working. I know my limits and don't want to push it...I'm doing the North Manitou Island hunt here in Michigan this year so I can condition my hunting buddy for his first elk hunt we have planned for 2026, so he can get an idea of what it's going to be like hunting with camp on his back for 7+ days....I wish I could train him for the elevation of 9500-10k....short of putting a bag with small holes cut in it over his head would be the closest to the real thing I can think of lol.

I almost fell out when you said “I kinda questioned why I was out there” been there Why not, rite.
I did the same thing passed on a doe last day an my freezer is completely empty 😂 lol
Respect 🔱
Dan, The reason why you were probably out there is addiction. Who in there right mind would go otherwise in those conditions, and decide to pass on meat? You go for the fact that you can say you did. You experienced real hunting, in real conditions. Yer Living, Man! That's why we do it. It's Living!, and a way of life! I'll hunt, 'till the day I die! Christ bless!
Dan I have a shirt I made and want to send you one ! I think you'll love it 😅
Respect beast 🙏🏻
Love the tee
Love it
Like your shirt.
Nice shirt!
Nice honest video
Nice!
True sportsman.
Beast Mode 😀
Fishing season is among us get some rods and reels and get back at it .
It's funny. The more I hunt, the more I find myself making up reasons not to shoot. I love the chase but I always feel a little sad after the kill. I think that's a good thing though. We should never take ending a life lightly.

An you provide a link for that snow camo coverup thanks
Your the beast MAN 🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
My fingers got cold
Yet again why your the man ... Great ethics .... sometimes just knowing you could is enough ...
You are one bad MF! I was cold sitting in the ice shack with the heater. Congratulations on the great season. Looking forward to following u through another next year.! Meanwhile, how about bringing some of those hair videos out of the archives? El Camino days!!!!
this is me .. I try to hunt as much as I can .. yet I let killable deer walk on most days .. wife doesn't understand .. just being out there matters most
Great video Dan, I can 100% relate. Sometimes I doe hunt if I get lucky enough to fill my buck tag, but I'm usually rooting for the doe, and looking for any reason not to shoot. I just love being out there.
Goood job on private ryan but those things happen. Love Dans tee shirt, witness when you can and let your life always reflect Jesus.

This was supposed to be on another video. This is also a great tee shirt.
Crossbow would have been easier in cold
I'm glad you decided not to kill that doe at the end of the season hell it might have two future bucks this spring and I'm not saying it's wrong with it either, but look at it like this you enjoyed what you do and it's always not about the kill . thats seems to be a message of the video to me .
Im out there for different reasons at different parts of the season late season below zero flintlock or archery she was getting it if i sat there freezing without a buck tag i might of been saying i hope a doe dont show or im killing it thats the truth there might be something wrong with me but i kill em and i eat em if i wanted to look at em i would ride around scouting watching em out the window looking at lots of deer before dark and setting up a plan for later lol
I’ve said for many many years that being a deer hunter is a serious disease . You , my friend are terminally ill but in a good way 👍
Get a HBS, and don't wear all that crap
