⁴ᴷ Last Day of Service at The Old South Ferry Loop Station (6/27/17)
On June 27th, 2017, the New South Ferry Terminal reopened after 2 years of post-Sandy repairs. The old South Ferry loop was closed once again. The new terminal can turn more trains and fit the full 10-car train onto the platform unlike the South Ferry loop, which can only fit the first 5 cars. The large gap between the train and platform requires gap fillers, the long platforms which extend towards the train which only adds to the loop's limitations.

Farewell, South Ferry loop (outer platform) 1905-2017 RIP. You have served the City, County and State of New York well.
Well, rest in peace, loop station. You will never be forgotten.
This would make a better terminus for the 5. It would provide transfers to the 1,N,Q,R and W trains

R.I.P. South Ferry loop station closed, reopened, and reclosed again. May we remember this station that we could see until 2017.
The MTA has to invest in something that would protect stations and tunnels from flooding. Not to mention the new terminal (when it was just opened) was flooded by Sandy And and they put the South Ferry loop back in service after it was abandoned. If only they could keep the loop and the new terminal open at the same time.

I'll really miss the old South Ferry Station, even though it was noisy.
Wow. I don't believe it! They are actually closing the station after investing the money into reopening it. That was such a cool Station! I was there back in February with a friend of mine. The moving platforms were just something else! Well, let's see what the new terminal is like now.
I love this station. I worked the 1 line for many years. This is the only place in the entire system where you can get all these train sound effects so frequently at this intensity
The way they move the platforms out to the train.

I remember in '82 I was stationed on Governors Island and that screeching woke us up coming back from a night of partying. Now it's a park!
Maybe bring the 9 train back it will go from old south ferry loop to breezy point (Currently no subway lines go to breezy point) And maybe demolish and reconstruct it so that it can fit all 10 cars and maybe make another platform which will go to the new station and bring back the old south ferry loop!
What's going to happen to everything inside the station?
I wonder which is tighter South Ferry or City Hall
Why did they close the south ferry loop?
SO will this station become like City Hall
Why? :(
About time. I hated this. Looks like 14 street Union Suqare on the Lexington Avenue Line. The 4,5, and 6 trains.
