I did competitive gymnastics for 10 years and I currently do calisthenics, and believe, there's no point of comparison between calisthenics and gymnastics.

Azóta sem volt ilyen kaliberű tornászunk, mármint Berki Krisztiánon kívül. Több mint húsz évvel ezelőtt volt, és akkoriban ez a színvonal egyedülálló volt. Szerintem ennek köszönhetően kezdett fejlődni a gyűrű. Ma már ugyanilyen nehéz gyakorlatot épphogy felnőtt kínai tornászok mutatnak be.

Watching it in 2021, my eyes see Chen Yibin's execution very differently. Zanetti and Petrounias were incredible champions. Liu this year, too. But for me, Petrounias just is so absolutely incredible with this positions and clear non-cheating holds... Wow.

Agreed! Looking back, Yibing seemed too high in a few of his holds, as well as the false grip. Every Olympics the rings competitors seem to get better and better.

I’m sorry to say this, but surely that Greek guy in 2004 doesn’t seem to have had that gold. He barely holds that position, and executions are pretty bad…

I can't help but think that in their minds during the routine, they are all screaming in pain after each move.

Tampakos didn't really earn the gold medal, it was Jovtchev who should have gotten it and I am Greek.

The 1st gymnast who impressed me in Rings was Dmitri Belozerchev in mid 80s, just by seeing photo of him on rings. I don't remember whether I watched his performance at 1988 Olympic live on TV.

@@spartan7911 It has never happened that someone won 2x in a row in rings if I'm not mistaken. The closest anyone ever got was Zanetti gold and silver 2012 and 2016 and Chen Yibin gold and silver 2008 and 2012. Also no one has ever even made the top 3 more than twice in a row, Zanetti failing to make it now on Tokyo means the only one who can do this is Petrounias 3 years from now.

Albert Azaryan has 2 gold medals on rings and Mitsuo Tsukahara too,Petrounias was about to be the third on this list but unfortunately that didn’t happen. Still happy and impressed from his performance and what this beast has achieved the last 10 years

Rings is the hardest apparatus in the whole gymnastic sport. It amazes me the amount of strength this requires.

I do calisthenics but when I get to a very high level on the floor and bars I will go hard with ring training I love it cause Its so challening,fun and beautiful at the same time,I think this ring gymnats are in a superhuman level of strength

It's called the Zanetti, named after the gymnast performing it.

Is it any wonder a Greek wins in Athens, a Chinese wins in Beijing, etc.?

Their strength is INSANE!! I've been following gymnastics since 1989. In that time, I feel this apparatus has not evolved/changed in that time compared to all the others. The men have evolved that's obvious, but routines/moves haven't changed much. This and pommel horse are two events that I don't understand as much as the other apparatuses

I wish announcers just took 5 minutes and learned how to pronounce the names at least approximately. Lazy bunch.

They weren't banned because of their race. They were both intersex athletes who were banned due to having a higher-than-acceptable rate of testosterone.
