I'm a retired optician. I was an optician for 37 years and dealt with a number of lasik patients. So only being 20 now mean you had you surgery when you were 20 years old. personally I think it's often better getting it done when closer to being 23 or 24 because by that time your eyes have become a bit more stable. Often only being 20 your eyes haven't become fully stable. Also I know most doctors only say one year with no changes in prescription is good enough. Personally I think 18 months or more is even better for best results. Something they don't tell you that you should have been told is that after having lasik if you decide to have a family and become pregnant there is about a 50% chance of it effecting your eyesight. In other words it would be in every woman's best interest to not get lasik until you no longer plan on getting pregnant. But considering even having to have a second surgery done your lasik has held up very well. Also something you likely weren't told is that lasik generally only lasts for about ten years. And since you already had the second surgery done and each time a little of your corneas are removed getting it done a third time is not only much more risky but also very likely not possible either. I'm surprised that your doctor was so oppose to prescribing you with a weak prescription for night driving and anytime you might feel a need for them. Our doctor saw many with the exact same issue as you that also were still at 20/20 but seemed to have issues when driving at night. His normal prescription for that was a nice simple -.50 SPH for both eyes and with an AR coating (anti-reflective) Oddly enough you rejected getting that added to your glasses. That in my opinion was a big mistake because the AR coating is extremely helpful in reducing reflections and glare but also with halos and starbursts issues. A -.50 SPH isn't enough to do any harm to your eyes. I assume he only gave you a -.25 SPH in your right eye, which is basically nothing, since that's most likely your dominate eye. I assume your brain will only allow you to use that eye when necessary. Just a suggestion. If you still feel you need to be wearing glasses when driving at night go on-line to either Zenni Optical or Eye Buy Direct and order your own glasses in a -.50 SPH for both eyes. leave the CYL and axis areas blank. But be sure to get the AR coating. With Zenni it's only $5.00 and with Eye Buy Direct it's included. Both sites have really cute glasses for under $15.00 and that includes your lenses. A -.50 SPH will be just enough for you notice an improvement in your vision.

Would you strongly recommend LASIK based on your experience with patients that did it? Or were there too many complaints on average? Just curious.

I wore glasses all my life until I decided to get lasik 14years ago. I was near sighted, my vision was pretty bad like -3.5 or so both eyes. Well now for some reason im far sighted and I can't drive at night anymore because of crazy glares and blurr, and my eyes can't focus. So my next step is to get an eye exam and likely wear glasses again. It was good while it lasted.

I did this and regret everyday I'm trying to do some wavefront with my surgeon, but doctors are so hard to comunicate, everything is so "shady"(I had to do some research first and not everything in this eye world is clear for ordinary people). I'm hoping this higher order aberrations got treated, they give me so much discomfort and makes me really sad and sorry for doing this procedure.

  • @RasenRambo23

If you're going to recommend it now, at least mention the alternatives. SMILE surgery is better in basically every way. Some people may also do better with ICL. Contact lenses have also come a long, long way in their comfort. It's gotten to the point where LASIK isn't the best option for almost anyone anymore. In saying this, people might think - oh, but your eye doctor will make you aware of these alternatives. They won't. Many people go to LASIK centers and they have an expensive machine that can only do LASIK and needs to be paid off. That's the reality. At least here, where no one pays you for your opinions, you need to always also mention alternatives. Glad you're doing well!

Hi Sandra! after your follow up, did you have any double vision, in high contrast situations? white/black things? I went through a situation very similar to yours, but I didn't see an improvement similar to yours in 50%, I would say about 30%, 1/3 better than what I saw, but the duplicity still bothers me a lot, you had it too ? Thank you to share your experience with us!

@@sarahyy.yy_3 More than 2 months now, and yes my far vision is good. My left eye feels like completely corrected, but right eye is about 90 %. I can drive and have no problem with far vision. Still over night my vision is somehow heavy. But most importantly, my near vision is ruined because I did my surgery over 40 age. And the doctor didn’t tell me that at my age the surgery would affect my near vision. So now I use glasses to read on my tablet!
