Laser Technology - Command and Conquer - Tiberium Lore

Ойындар

Looking at the origins and development of the Brotherhood of Nod's use of lasers as offensive and defensive weapons in the Command and Conquer Tiberium timeline/universe. Timestamps, corrections and/or clarifications posted below.

Corrections/clarifications:
1) In addition to increasing its vision range and fire rate, the Beam Cannon also extends the attack range of the Obelisk of Light as well.
2) During the mission "Sarajevo" in C&C3 Tiberium Wars. The announcer does describe the Beam Cannon as a particle beam based weapon system. Making it technically not a laser, even though it functions like one.

Yeah, and it got me thinking if there was a self-powering weapon like that the part you'd have to start replacing would be some kind of fuse that absorbs transients between the generator and the output. In Evangelion an HID rifle is shown (mecha sized) and it's "round" is actually a fuse/bus that works by turning to plasma during the weapon's cycle in a Z-machine like fashion; the plasma then acts as the actual conductor, naturally this works once and is ejected like a rifle cartridge. It does imply large and routine variations between the generator's output and the weapon's intended or at least maximum output but that could very well be the nature of energy weapons, getting at the unstable Big Energy and weaponizing it at all would be the point of even making a real one rather than finding a way to reinvent the wheel so to speak.

Those lasers are superior only because the C&C universe doesn't allow GDI to use ceramic composite armor and highly polished surfaces. Hell, even a fog machine or glass of water can defeat a laser. I imagine a real GDI assault against an Obelisk would include stopping at the local Party City before going to the assault staging area.

  • @alexanerose4820

@@StudleyDuderight This comment maybe 6 months old, but I don't think "lasers" in C&C are similar in function and misidentification to "turbolaers" and "lightsabers" with the former NOT being a laser at all (more like a condensed plasma bolt with the yield of a missile and an ammo capacity of a practically unlimited) and the latter is not made of light as all (at least when you compare it to light constructs of the forerunner) . If anything it's or sensibly should be a plasma beam of death accelerated accelerated really quickly and as we all know in most cases plasam > solid projectile in a lot of scenarios. Then again, it's Kane we're talking about so at worse he's found a way to make lasers breaks through such things like fog or primitive composite and highgly polished armor

ITs mentioned that not war factory uses nano assembly to put together vehicles in its underground sections and given that the turrets seems to use a underground section when you look at their pad section (similar to TW2 turrets) it might be that rather then "repairing" them a new one is simply put together and released up top
