In this video, I compare two 20watt diode laser engraving machines to one another. I take a close look at the ATEZR P20 Plus and the xTool D1 Pro noting each aspect that I like as well as a few that just don't seem to measure up. In the end, you'll get a very good idea of which machine might work the best for you and your shop requirements. Watch and laugh as each of these of these units gets ranked by me in the most scientific way possible!

Very kind of you, Drew, to have gotten these two packages safely off the neighbor's front stoop before they were taken by porch pirates! And then to take your precious time to open them, discover they were laser engravers, and put each of them through its paces just to make sure they weren't damaged in shipping? They just don't make neighbors like you anymore, Mr. Fisher! Pretty selfless! 👍

I have the Xtool D1 10W and love it. Most of us that have built a custom enclosure have tossed the orange shield. It's not needed with the enclosure, and it actually gets in the way more often than not. I have all the other bits and bobs that you can add to the machine, greatly increasing it's versatility. The Xtool is a great machine - the only thing that appears lacking is the customer support (see online forums for feedback on that)

Yeah, that was one category I decided not to test. Understandably, there will be a language barrier and a response time issue since it's all coming from China. But with how wide their customer base is, usually you can find answers on online forums and that sort of thing

That is by far the best rating system I’ve ever seen. It should be the standard! I’ve got an xtool d1 (10w) and I really like it. One other feature they have is leg extensions. They’re extra cylinders that screw into the existing legs that let you raise the tray up. These are extremely helpful in case anyone needs to engrave on thicker work pieces.

Great review comparison. The air assist could be the deal maker for some, that's $150 worth of other upgrades, go toward building your own fume extraction cabinet, consumables. The air hose issue is easily solved with a length of surgical tubing. If your neighbor has one of those cheap, expanding garden hoses, that's the internal part. As soon as the hose fitting starts leaking, you get several ft of free surgical tubing.

They're both pretty much identical in LB. For the xTool you'll have to configure the offset if you want to use the crosshairs for alignment. Plus, it homes to the back-left corner instead of the front-left like the ATEZR. Other than that, they're the same.
Excellent comparison of the two. I appreciate how you abandoned both the metric and the imperial system in favor of the Fisher system. Much more intuitive. These units both look great. I have a much cheaper, 5w, system for making wooden signs and other doo dads that I sell at my camp store. These things have certainly come a long way and they keep getting easier to use. One of the best, most entertaining reviews of this machine. Accesories you can buy after are pretty irrelevant. You can buy all of the accessories, like air assist or extraction, from loads of places. The stuff they give you with the machine is worth considering, but to be honest they are peanuts. And with the X Tool still at around $1300 while the Atezr is $680 that's a lot of test materials. So the rest of the test, fair enough. But the accessories section just seems way off, even allowinf for the fact that the Atezr cost more at the time of the review. The extra $150 for the X Tool air assist still buys all those materials they give you, and a lot more. And there is bound to be an upgrade module for the Atezr, if there isn't at the time of writing. Clear winner here, in all but aethetics, very subjective, is the Atezr.

With connecting your device to the wifi, I quite often have issues connecting smart devices to the wifi. The trick I found was to disable the high band wifi before connecting. In the UK (not sure if it is the same in the USA) our wifi routers use 2 frequencies. 2ghz and 5ghz. Most smart devices (Amazon echos, ring doorbells, lights, etc) prefer the 2ghz. But the 5ghz confuses them. So I log into the router, disable 5ghz, connect the device as per device instructions, then restart the 5ghz. If American wifi routers are similar, then maybe try that?

I am still happy I DON'T live next door but I did enjoy this review except for the complete lack of software coverage. Yes, you did mention light burn and proprietary stuff with the Xtool but not what came with the Atezr. I would think that you do need to go over that part of the laser performance at some point. I realize its all new to you and you need time to use them both. I do like the air assist and overall design/construction of the Atezr but not its laser head. I don't like the air assist of the Xtool but am impressed with the software and the laser head. What I see as weaknesses in the Atezr is the visibility with the head and the extreme difficulty to clean the lens/head and glaring lack of software creativity and availability BUT the engineering design coverage is supreme. Sooooo. That leaves the real decision to the software. The Xtool engineering and build quality falls way short of the Atezr but immediate usability outshines the Atezr by miles. Back to you Mr Fisher. Draw it out Drew.
@FishersShop
Жыл бұрын
Well, I left software out of it because 99% of laser users just use Lightburn which is a completely different thing and doesn't really fall into the scope of this machine to machine comparison. The xTool has that Creative Space program, but it's pretty lame, to be honest.

Heads up Fisher, I teach a lasercutting class and depending on your model you probably shouldn't put metal on it. Not only do some metals have coatings that shouldn't be heated health-wise, but the metal itself is reflective so it actually bounces the laser back at it's own lens which increases heat and potentially damaging it (mirror is the same). Also many plastics release harmful chemicals that can give you cancer when they're heated up. Hopefully you've already done this--but always research first before cutting!
On a usefulness scale of flathead screws to woodpecker tools, I found this video to be entertaining and informative so I'll rank it at a pockethole jig. 🤓👍And your neighbors will be showing your logo to everyone he knows! Maybe even the police will like it!

@@FishersShop love ya bro. Deserve everything coming your way coz you hustle like no one else. Nothing but love for ya.
A few things to keep in mind with these open frame laser cutters: 1) There is NOTHING for fume extraction. Whenever you're cutting or engraving, you're burning the material, and releasing whatever vapors straight into your workshop. 2) Be wary of what materials you're using, some materials, such as PVC, Formaldehyde-bonded fiberboards, etc., should never be laser cut or engraved, as they release toxic gasses when burned. Always use the machine in a well ventilated area. 3) While they claim to have flame detection, they should never be left unattended. 4) Children and pets should never be around while the machine is in use. 5) Those lasers emit a fair amount of ultraviolet radiation. They should never be operated without proper laser eye protection. That little shroud doesn't do much. I'm very skeptical of open frame laser cutters. They just seem way too dangerous. I would very much rather use an enclosed one, even though they tend to be more expensive.
