LAS VEGAS: Night Walk Through Crazy Fremont Street / Night Drive Down The Strip

WE visit beautiful Las Vegas, Nevada. We spend an evening on Fremont Street (The Fremont Experience), watching the interesting people and the amazing hourly light show. Nearby Hoover Dam is an architectural wonder. Lake Mead is beautiful. Also, a drive down Las Vegas Boulevard.
We stayed at the Holiday Inn at the south end of the strip.

Las Vegas is fun. I went to the largest gift shop. That was 2018. I wish we had done more when we went but I am still satisfied. Fremont Street looks pretty cool. Loved the show there especially on the ceiling. That city definitely doesn't sleep. Also, the Hoover Dam is pretty cool. I didn't go there in person but now i feel like i was there. That would seem cool flying a drone around that area. Not sure if that's allowed.

Some more Plaza movie trivia for you...Oscar's Steakhouse was featured in the movie CASINO. It's owned by Oscar Goodman, former mob lawyer and former Mayor of Las Vegas. Oscar has a cameo in the movie, playing Ace Rothstein's lawyer in the casino license scene.

Sorry we missed you Spoda. Glad you had a great time though. I remember being a kid, going to Lake Mead/ Hoover Damm and the water was so much higher. California had really drained us. Basically that white line in the rocks, mountains and islands, is where it used to sit. Most of those islands weren't visible or able to be reached. The only nice part about it now is, the scuba instructors take their classes down to the cities and equipment that was left behind, when they released the water. You also used to be able to drive on Fremont where the Fremont experience sits now.

We'll be back. We are running through cities quick right now, trying to get to all 50 states in less than a year. I remember Fremont Street before it was covered. I used to come down to Vegas several times a year in the early 80's when I was at university in Utah. We would drive on Fremont then. Also, you used to be able to dry right by Hoover Dam. It's changed quite a bit, with the freeway bypassing it now and the security to get to the dam. I hadn't been to Las Vegas in almost 40 years. It has changed a lot. Much bigger, a lot more buildings. I did some driving around - the city looks really nice.

I remember going through there in 99 and the water was up above some of the towers. Went through there again in 2014 and its been at the level seen in the video.

@@justinbryson352 There are tons of things to do off-Strip that attract locals more readily than the big-name resorts. Just to name a few: - Classical music and traveling Broadway shows at the Smith Center - Blues at the Sand Dollar Lounge (particularly the original one on Spring Valley) - Fantastic food all over the city. Top spots not to miss include Esther’s Kitchen downtown, Table 34 near the airport, Ferraro’s near the university, Lotus of Siam (one of the best Thai restaurants in America), Americana Restaurant and Marché Bacchus (both in a residential neighborhood *way* off the Strip). The list is pretty much endless. - Classical and jazz events at the UNLV School of Music - Theater at the Nevada Conservatory Theater - Readings and book signings at the Writer’s Block bookstore - Lectures, sporting events, a small art museum, and other draws to the UNLV campus - Tons and tons of hiking throughout the Valley, much of it within the city limits - Taking in breathtaking views of the Strip from vantage points in the neighborhoods ringing around the valley. - Skiing (or escaping the summer heat) at Mt. Charleston; eating at the Mt. Charleston Lodge - Enjoying the minor league sports teams away from the Strip. (And technically speaking, Allegiant Stadium itself isn’t really *on* the Strip . . .) - The Children’s Museum if you have young ones - The Mob Museum - Bars! The best bars in Vegas are off the Strip. There are fabulous cheap dives, places for live music (see above), swanky modern spots, pubs . . . This is a drinking town. If you need one suggestion (other than the Sand Dollar Lounge, already mentioned), don’t miss Re-bar downtown. - Relaxing, dining, boating, and so forth at Lake Las Vegas - Locals casinos if you want to gamble at lower minimums and with better odds than on Strip - Shopping at Town Square, the District, Summerlin Downtown, the outlet malls, and in downtown Vegas - And if you want more tourist stuff but to stay off Strip, head to the Fremont Street experience, wander the Container Park And on and on. You should really venture off Strip the next time that you’re here!
