Great video! It’s making me feel old, and I’m only in my 20s. No more AirTran, US Airways or Virgin America. Allegiant’s MD-80s and 757s are gone. American’s shiny silver and MD-80s have vanished too. The one staple that lives on are those FedEx MD-10s. Whether 1995, 2013 or 2019, they’re always there haha!

M Groh Yeah the MD-10s are always a treat to see. It definitely seems like yesterday that AA and Allegiant had their MD-80s still flying there. I filmed this in 2012 and that alone makes me feel old haha.

The airport looks so bare without Concourse D, and the newer ATC tower. Also, this is amazing video quality for being made in 2013. This is always such a great reminder of what LAS used to be like back in the day!

Thanks! Glad you liked the video. I consider this video pretty amateurish as it was way before I even purchased a tripod, yet it seems to draw some good attention. LAS really does have a nice variety of aircraft flying in there (after peeling back a layer of Southwest haha).

Very nice video! Thanks for sharing this.My wife and I were in Las Vegas last week and I love planes but she doesn't. I would have LOVED to sit by the airport and watch these babies take off!

Mike Hamel if you go back the best place to watch them is in the industrial park on the corner of Sunset and Eastern Ave

Many thanks! This video was pre-tripod so was a real balancing act trying to get a steady hand-held shot. I guess it adds a bit of character.

LoveJT8D Considering that I've never used a tripod, I like it quite a bit ;)

Last 3x I've been to Vegas, had a southeast corner suite at the New York. I'd get a 6 pack and a pizza and sit in my dark room at night and watched all the planes taking off and landing. Seemed like it never stopped. Don't know why i was so intrigued watching them, but it was almost mesmerizing. Daytime was just as fun

The 757 has an awesome takeoff. Luckily the day I was there, there was absolutely no wind, so I think that allows the sound of the jet to travel more and sound louder.

OOh look at those beautiful colors of the sunsetting sky!! And the mountains!! Beautiful shots! I miss it so much. :( When I moved there in '78, Vegas, and McCarran, was so small we got off the plane in the middle of the tarmac! Stairs!! I watched Vegas grow into the metropolis it is today! I miss the old days, tho.Night flights were nothing but blackness and then BAM . A little circle of neon lights and then we were landing already. I used to watch the planes from Russell Rd. Great vid. TY~

Thanks for taking the time and watching. This was my first time spotting at LAS so I really wasn't sure what to expect. Saturday was definitely slow because there were no International heavies or Allegiant MD-80's flying. However, the variety of domestic carriers was a treat to film.

Awesome video!! My favourite airport plane spotting vid yet!! I've never been to Las Vegas so I'm no expert on best spots, but I think the spot you picked was outstanding. Perfect filming angle and perspective, and the scenery in the background wasn't exactly hard on the eyes! My favourite was the United 757 landing at 5:00. I loved how the nose gear just held in midair for an extra long time after the main gear had touched down. Anyway, great job and thanks for sharing this with us.

I used to always sit and watch planes when I used to live in Vegas. Still do when I visit there off Sunset Rd.

That's awesome! I'll definitely try that lot out. They also broadcast the live ATC in the viewing lot at VNY here in the Valley. It's always nice to know who's arriving and departing in advance.

Never did plane spotting as such, but I worked as a rampy for Southwest Airlines at McCarran in 2005-2006 and even though airplanes were my job, it was great being around them. Always took the time to watch the Virgin flights leave. Got some nice videos of those (although I didn't have an HD camera back then) Caught some nice pushbacks from Aloha and ATA Airlines who used our C gates. Two airlines you won't see again unfortunately. Greta video you have. Thanks !

Thanks! It was good to get a feel for the layout of the airport, and to seek out a few go-to points for spotting. Next time I think it would be cool to try the other set of runways. We saw 4 fighters, a GII or III, and other various business jets taking off from there.

3:32 It happens the same in São Paulo, Brazil GRU Airport. Some crazy people spread baloons near the airport, dammaging the air traffic. Great video.

Thanks for watching! In this case, it was a hot air balloon probably giving people rides. They were probably in communication with the ATC tower.

It's really cool to see so many airlines / colors fly into one airport. LAS airport is a competitive market and they all fight neck and neck for the best fares to get your business.

So it wasn’t only planes that you filmed, you also were able to capture a hot air balloon at 3:23. Beautiful view of the Strip Hotels by the way!👍

There's a shopping center just south of there called Town Square. Sit in the middle. And film planes all day. I filmed a few. Had a blast doing it! Nice video btw. My happiest moment is landing in Vegas. Saddest is leaving!!

There was some out door tables to sit at in front of a coffee shop I believe. It's across the street from what I call the park. The planes fly very low right over that spot. Planes from all over the world. I should see if I can find my video and post it. But check it out if you are ever that way again. I really enjoyed yours, take care.

This is awesome!

I'll have to try that spot next time. We just hiked down Sunset from the bus station and this seemed to give us a better pan view of the length of the runway. I guess we were fairly close to the lot, which you probably get much better audio of the plane spooling up there.

I once took a connecting flight to San Diego in Las Vegas on Southwest back in September 2013, and saw a British Airways 747 parked across the way at Terminal 3. It makes you wonder what will become of the old ATC tower.

Nice footage. We almost never see 747s anymore except the Gateway Cities for overseas flights.

Loved the Allegiant 757!!

Excellent video, man! I'm flying into Vegas soon for the Mayweather fight, so I've been doing a little bit of research on where to spot. Hopefulky I can go to the top of the parking garage, depending on what runways are in use, of course.

I really like Allegiant's livery too. It stands out from the rest of the crowd. The Allegiant livery also looks very sharp on the MD-80.

Yeah you can also listen to the ATC Tower there too. Pretty neat I think.

Thanks for watching. I used a Sony DSC-HX100V. It is a wonderful cross between a quality still photo camera and video camera. It has since been updated to the DSC-HX200V.

I never made it to the Eastern Ave spot. This was the same side of the street as the Viewing area closest to the fence, but just further down Sunset.

Thanks for the compliments! I am currently sitting in the Las Vegas airport right now after experiencing the strip for my first time this past weekend. It was nice to see all of the casino buildings up close and I am quite impressed with the city compared to Hollywood which is in my back yard. As a plane spotter, we like to stay quiet to capture the entire sound of the aircraft taking off and landing. But we do chat while the camera isn't rolling. Thank you for subscribing.

I been with my husband since high school and we are from los angeles. He use to always take me to sections near the runway(before 9/11) to watch planes take off and land. At first I thought it was the most boring thing, but now I kind of like it. He is a airplane junkie lol. Can hear a plane and know what it is.

It's a great looking plane :) In a world where a majority of twin jets look the same, I'm learning more to appreciate all of different liveries / special liveries.

Thanks for watching :) I use the Sony HX-100V and have thoroughly pleased with it. It is a still-photo camera but still shoots up to 60fps at 1080p like the actual sony video cameras. It has 30x zoom which is a challenge when spotting planes free-hand without a tripod.

No problem, we were right along Sunset the whole time, not as far down as the observation area, but right where highway 171 intersects the runway.

I saw the Air France Concorde take off from Reno Airport. Eat your hearts out.

Not sure what Delta's equipment schedule is like now, but as far as I know they do LAS-ATL with a 767. I was booked on a 767 on that route two years ago.

Las Vegas is awesome!

Yeah they actually flew a lot of them into LAS that day.

I have been meaning to try one of those Jet Blue flights out of Long Beach. If you book far enough in advance, they have some really cheap fares on their LGB routes.
