Love 'em or Hate 'em, Lars is a world-class drummer. His enthusiasm for the music is still contagious after 40 years. Being this close to him while playing was a profound experience. The degree of focus, determination and mental strength he showed while playing was astounding. It gave me a whole new appreciation for those that rise to top of their field whether they are musicians, athletes, surgeons, architects or Realtors. Take nothing for granted.... be the best you can be! Enjoy some Metallica along the way!

You can say what you want about Lars, but you can't deny the power and strength of his sound even at his age, how perfected his own technique is and how much he knows his instrument, without discrediting the majority of drummers but Lars It is one that transmits something to you, brings something to your live experience, it is not just there to play you 300 notes per second.
Give him a break , the guy is almost 61 y.o. and still rocking 👊
its cool that it sounds like you aren't even hearing the snare drums from the speakers you are just hearing it without any speakers

Yes, that's right the camera is so close that it's picking up the actual drum sounds not the audio from the PA

I was there too. It was an awesome show. Zakk and Pantera were also great.
Lars is THE MAN!!! 🤘🤘🔥🔥
You can really notice the latency of the PA when you're next to Lars's kit, James and Kirk's rhythm just sound a small amount delayed

sounds like he is racing against the rest of the band instead of driving the band, weird to listen to...

It's the natural acoustics of the environment. You can really tell at 3:55. If the camera was at the guitar source instead, Lars would sound late.

Yep. AT & T stadium is a Huge venue. Definitely takes some time for the sound to travel. But it's so amazing to be close enough to hear the actual drum sound before it was pushed through the mix.
ha, in-ears are god send!
He is the best!

l'evoluzione sostituirà le vostre mani e le vostra braccia con dei supporti per telefoni
I know Im too deep in this, but who do you blame an audience with their phones. Lars, myself whos sitting on My ASS at home. Well Lars does'nt have any nuances that makes hes playing sound very dull. In The other hand it made The band work because there was'nt any ego in The band. But in My mind I would like a Guy whos a stand out musician. The new Metallica stuff..
straight outta tempo

Not really... you are hearing the delay in the PA system as it compares to actually hearing the sticks connect with the drum heads.

Okay... Most phone videos I've seen of these shows have this god awful echo and delay, making it sound like they aren't playing together at all. Is it really that awful out there? Starting to think this tour Metallica is not even worth it because of the sound. :|

Great question @Jayteaseepiirturi ! The sound engineering was perfection at this 100,000 seat stadium in Dallas, Texas. The delay / echo you hear is because my phone's mic was so close to the drums that you are actually hearing the sticks make contact with the drum heads and cymbals BEFORE the sound is pushed through the PA system. Everyone else in the stadium is hearing the sound mixed and amplified through the speakers. As a drummer I can also add that, this is what a drummer hears from behind the kit. The music sounds completely different when you are behind all the amps that are pushing the sound away from you.
What is the the point of watching a gig through your phone while you are at said gig? It makes absolutely zero fucking sense to me.

Hey! I was fortunate enough to attended both nights (Friday and Sunday). It was literally one of the best experiences of my life! - even though I've seen them 11 or 12 times over the years, there was nothing like being 6 feet away from them in the middle of the stage! I had to capture it so that I can relive it forever! I only recorded 3 songs out of the 40+ that they played. Super glad I did, now I can share it with others that don't get the chance to see it from the POV that I had. Cheers!
Its a big showboat

keep in mind that lars is also the business brain of Metallica. Metallica would also not sound like Metalica if it wasn't for his simple hard-hitting drumming. Its one of the things that separated Metallica from every generic ass thrash band in the 80s

I think it's fair to say that his drumming style doesn't appeal to everyone. But even if you don't like his artistic expression, he is clearly a world class drummer. I was close enough to see the concentration and focus in his eyes. I've never witnessed anything like it before... it was almost scary to see how locked in he was. And while it may sound like he's not keeping time, that is only the lag of the camera recording coupled with the fact that the camera is close enough to pick up the sound of the sticks making contact with the drum head which happens a second before the sound travels through the speakers. In real life it was spot on, and powerful.

d'habitude on progresse en vieillissant après tant de concerts , Lars a stagné depuis les années 80 et devient le point ultra faible du groupe en concert ..

Disagree. They played with precision and passion that can only be acquired with experience. I've seen them 8 times since 1986. And no doubt they were in their absolute prime in the early 90s, as everyone is in their late 20s / early 30s. But, damn, they are still awesome, especially Lars who has the most physically and mentally challenging role of all of them when on stage.
