Excellent story on how you got these very rare Buddy Rich 80N Slingerland drum set in Black Diamond Pearl. Drums look and sound great. The snare drum back in 1968 has to be the Buddy Rich 5.5x14 Artist model with the solid maple shell. Is this what you have with this BR Slingerland set? I did a video on KZread of my Slingerland Buddy Rich 1968 Artist model snare and these are a great sounding snare.Buddy recorded the Mercy Mercy album with this snare drum. Back then all the hoops were made from solid brass, chrome plated for an excellent rim shot sound. All my best to you Larry on your concert and keep on swinging!

Hello Larry! I was ready to hang it up, & then saw Buddy on tv at around 14 years old. He was such an inspiration, I thought that's what this is all about. Even now having enjoyed players like Elvin Jones, & Tony Williams, if I want to hear a great drum solo, I tend to gravitate to Buddy.

I have a 1979 five ply 80N kit with a 22 kick in rosewood veneer. Nice to see that you’re using cymbal snaps! I like your swing! Keep on drumming!

GREAT !!! Congrats on such a beautiful, rare and good sounding drumset that once belonged to Buddy Rich. Keep it and enjoy... ( Thats the first drumset with a 22" bass drum that I know of that has been played by Buddy. )

Larry, your kid is just completely awesome and I think Buddy would be proud of your chops you are doing that kit Justice can you tell me what microphone you are recording this with because the bass drum sounds really good and it picks up the ambience of the kit really well. BTW, are the original heads still on it...? What heads are being used on it if they are not the original ones because they sound really good! My understanding is Buddy used Diplomat heads always at least in the sixties and seventies supposedly. I have an late fifties wfl wmp kit with the same sizes that you have that was owned by Mousey Alexander but Buddy had used the exact same kit in the 50s with the exception of possibly a 24-inch bass drum which I am looking for to add to the kit now but I am very grateful to have this kit so I can come as close as possible to that vintage Buddy sound, but you definitely have the crown jewels there and I am glad you are actually using it and not just a collector ogling over it... it deserves to be heard and you are doing it justice! Peace, Bob

Nicholas Wood exactly. When music was important there were paid professionals who wrote for every paper and a public who wanted information about their favorite artist or band. Articles about last nights concert, or a new album review. You just don’t know.

Steve F I’ve been in music school for the past 3 years and I can tell you music is the most important thing in my life as well as my 4,000 other musician students. And each one of them have loved ones to back them up. There are many different platforms of music media nowadays like the needle drop, noisy, rolling stone, even gq talks about music sometimes. I guarantee you music is just a relevant!

Way cool, but I gotta ask if Larry read's this, are you the guy I gave crap to for playing a Ludwig Breakbeats set with Kalamazoo Big Band at Paw Paw Wine and Harvest Fest ? Was that 2016 maybe 2018. I guess I just picked the wrong year to go see Kalamazoo Big Band. You said "I have all that great Rogers and Slingerland stuff at home". I guess you weren't kidding. By the way, I'm still traumatized to have seen any Big Band Drummer playing a Breakbeats kit.
