A kid star that survived

Shirley Temple died last year, I think she was 87 . She was the brightest and cutest of all childstars, and what a charming lady she was.

Lost everything through no fault of her own and shows not a trace of bitterness. Poised, articulate, and charismatic. Wonderful as a child, wonderful now.

She must havr photo graphic memory .. her memory is excellent

I think that Shirley's secret was that her personality was exactly the right one for a child star career. She enjoyed the work, loved to be in the spotlight and was energetic and bubbly enough for the long days and all the people to deal with. That combined with the huge talent she had... And then she was done, and she wanted kids and a career in the real world. So she didn't go mad, she did it right!

Shirley was just a child prodigy, absolutely genius in her dancing, the ease, the lightness of her feet, and the rhythm was impeccable, truly unique and finally a grand lady, God bless her

She has such a beautiful personality. Her ethics and grace are very admirable.

Her story of Arthur Freed is so disgusting & horrid, but when recounting it Shirley Temple Black deals with it in the same peppy & sunny nature that won her generations of fans. She really comes across as a wonderful & inspiring woman in this interview.

my grandma use to live on the Reservation in Palm Springs with my great grandfather, an she use to play with Shirley Temple (Shirley Black) when they were little girls.

Shirley Temple Black even at 60 yrs of age you are still such a beautiful woman ! You have such integrity and you were such a great representative to the USA may you Rest In Peace 🙏🏼❤

What a beautiful and accomplished woman she grew up to be!

Very eye opening that she tried to hide from the man producing the Baby Burlesque shows, wow! Money taken fro her was a travesty, but she is not bitter. What an amazing person! Bill Robinson and Shirley Temple did the first bi-racial dance she was such an inspiration to me!

A beautiful child and woman...I still love her. She was a genius...pure class.

I adore Shirley Temple Black I can't believe she's gone. She's one of my favorite actress on this earth and may she never be forgotten.

She is a gracious, classy lady!

Oh my goodness. I love her! She's even adorable as a full grown adult! I am glad she exercised her gifts and talents leaving behind wonderful films and music!

Gosh, she aged well. She was so beautiful, and what a lovely personality. I was a bit worried the child star I admired so much when I was little would turn out to have not been a nice person in reality, but she seemed lovely.

Her heart was a genuine beauty!

When I was Child I was so happy seeing Shirley Temple I loved her so much :)

My baby girl was born just three days before Miss Shirley died I I get so many people telling me that the baby looks so much like Miss Shirley more olive skin complected though my little one has a similar beautiful round face a cute dimple by the right side of her mouth area, she loves to jump up and down and dance and sing and what's even more cool she's only two years old and she loves watching Shirley Temple with her mommy ♡♡♡♡ I kind of like to think I have my own little reincarnation version of miss Shirley ♡♡♡♡♡♡♡♡

I can't believe she was robbed of all her earnings! That was not right, she had worked so hard all those years. Where did the money go? Same thing happened to Judy Garland (she had to sneek out of motels due to not being able to pay) and Mickey Rooney(he had $13,000 at his death) They didn't deserve this...they were Legends! Arthur and LB were sickos!

So sorry for ur sadness and whatever happened that caused that. I've been through a lot myself and was molested by my parent at 5 yrs old. I think Shirley really was in denial of her abuse and minimizes it which is not good on so many levels.

Growing up, my favorite person was my grandmother. In the early 1960s she moved to California from Chicago and every weekend I would stay at her garden apartment. Friday nights we would watch THE SHIRLEY TEMPLE FILM FESTIVAL, quite an event hosted by the grown up Shirley herself dressed in a beautiful gown! My favorite Shirley Temple is not the little tot of her earliest films, but the more grown up child of around 12 years. My favorite ST movie from 1939 is THE LITTLE PRINCESS. It has a dramatic storyline with a heart wrenching, pull out all the stops emotionally satisfying ending to make a grown man cry. Very satisfying, with a great personal appearance by Queen Victoria herself! (O.K., I guess she's an actress.) I am further remembering that at about this time I had to stay in the hospital to have my tonsils removed. As a consolation to this event my grandmother gifted me with a soundtrack album lifting Shirley singing the songs from her old films. Which I played & played...

When I was little I was called Little Shirley Temple... She is still BEAUTIFUL ...

Wow, my earliest memory was when I was 10 months old so I was surprised to hear Shirley also had this detailed memory going back to 10 months. I could tell by her stories in her book, she had an amazing brain.

Larry didn't seem too convinced, but I knew she was telling the truth because I have a memory from around that age or possibly earlier, as well! She was extremely intelligent and such a wonderful person. RIP Shirley Temple. You were an inspiration.

What a charming woman! A true talent in every way

I borrowed Child Star from the library. I didn't get to finish it but I got halfway through it and the half that I read was SO damn good!. There were parts in the book where I'd bust out laughing. Her humor shined through in that book. I had to wait 2 weeks before I could borrow it again but then stupid library ended up giving it away. So mad but if anyone can get their hands on it.....GET IT AND READ IT!! :)

Larry fell for Shirley on this interview. He fell so hard for her.

It's amazing to me that she was able to resist what must have been endless lucrative offers to return to film or tv for over 60 years. Even Grace Kelly couldn't resist trying to come back.

I absolutely love her, I used to watch all her movies when I was little and was so inspired to do tap. Dance was such a huge part of my life since I was three up until an injury when I was eighteen. She is such a classy lady.

I was a Shirley Temple look alike in the early 70's. My grandma would hang up Shirley's pics in stead of mine...

i think marilyn munro based her "acting" on Shirly temple, i.e. study poor little rich girl. amazing similarity in the way marilyn used to talk.

Amazing she could do so much at age 5. I can only remember 3 things from when I was 5 years old (in 1963). 1). Watching Captain Kangaroo on TV. 2) A little bit of my Kindergarten class. 3) Just a little bit of when President Kennedy was assassinated, mainly because my mother was so sad. That's about all.
