He's a covert narc, and some of the things he says in order to big himself up, like being "quicker than Ali" only betrays his true nature. Also, he goaded Ali out of retirement and assassinated his chances of being seen as truly great by beating him back when he overdosed on Thyrolar. Ali shook up the world and became bigger than the sport of boxing itself, Larry was just a guy who never got over the fact he couldn't escape his former mentor's shadow. His bitterness failed attempts to be seen as the "nice guy", and blatant projection of his own insecurities onto actual nice guys and worthy champions like George Foreman only proves that. Whilst his jab may well be great, he's never the best of all time. He's from one of the weakest eras in heavyweight boxing history. didn't develop it with ali when he was sparring with the man himself for 3 years? you've got to be kidding me Larry. He definitely learned that trade from Ali - no doubt about it. Ali used to do the same flicking jab that could literally cut your face into pieces. You have my respect but Ali remains the fastest heavyweight with feet and hands of all time and his jab was better than yours. Close, but Ali had more of whip lash. Thing is, we didn't even see Ali in his prime. EDIT: Homes began sparring with Ali in 1970, bear in mind this is the 3 and half lay off, inactive Ali so of course Ali suffered his natural reflexes by then and homes probs was quicer although its well documented Ali took sparring very lightly and used it to test his opponents reaction, his reaction and the way he moved. There's a video of it on youtube with cus when he came back. 67' Ali remains the fastest HW with feet and hands of all time. Holmes WAS literally a copycat - he acknowledges he learned the sweet science of boxing from sparring with Ali and implemented that with tremendous success. However, Ali's footwork, conditioning and boxing IQ was like no other - he got holmes beat in this department hence why he had the success he did post 70' with guys like Frazier, Foreman, Shavers, Mathis, Chuvalo, Ellis, spinks and end of this interview, why's Holmes trying to be like Ali and steall his lines? He couldn't even get that right. He should show more appreciation towards Ali just like a George Foreman shows to the late Sonny Liston for such an opportunity. He wouldn't have been the fighter he was without ALI - and he should learn to recognize that. Apart from that, great fighter and beat the men who was there in his time and was never fully credited but that's what happens when you fall in great man's shadow.
