The thing that I loved about Jeff was that he was such a versatile drummer. He could play anything from Jazz or Hard Rock to Pop or Progressive Rock, and others. RIP Jeff, wish they showed more of him.

First heard this when I was 15, I shit myself literally, not only because Pocaro was grooving like a beast with Penas, but Larrys solo is so full of love and emotion, I still today get massive shivers when I hear his competence being spunked all over the auditorium, much love LARRY AND CREW, BAD MOTHERFUCKERS TO THE ABSOLUTE MAX....RIP Jeff. :(

At 4:43 Porcaro puts on a ghost note, open close hi hat clinic like only he can. His style is so easily identifiable to most JP afficionados. Alex Acuña on percussion makes this all the more better. Thanks for posting.

Well said! I've been a super-duper fan of Larry CARL-TONE for more than 45 years! I became a student when the "STRIKES TWICE" album came out in 1981! The moment I heard "Midnight Parade" I was literally emotionally taken aback! Next day I bought the album and haven't stopped studying Larry's absolutely UNIQUE style! He delivers-the-shivers ................ Mr. Larry Carl-tone~!~!~!~

Always liked Larry, but his solo on this vid is probably not only the best I've ever heard of him, but also one of the best I've ever heard by any musician. It is a PERFECT blend of technique and feeling, mixing feedback effects, sick bluesy and jazzy licks in a perfect manner, starting slow, and then developping into an explosive climax over John Pena's funky bassline. Should be taught in music schools all across the world, and not only to young guitar players - to everyone, period.

And the thing that I love about Larry, is that he tries to let the other bands members be at the forefront and be more prominent, instead of trying to show-off and be the best musician out there. But, I will say that Larry is one incredible guitarist, and add Jeff, Alex, Greg, and I don’t know what the other percussionist name is, but with all those people you got a crazy (in a good way) band.

This is simply brilliant, as good as it gets. What a rhythm section!!! Alex Acuna, John Pena on bass, the other percussionist (another Pena?) and the incomparable Jeff Porcaro on drums. Porcaro was always such a monster, but I thought he did his best work with Carlton. And Larry, OMG Larry. NOBODY played guitar with the dynamics that LC does. And that twist your gut dissonance in parts of his solo. It saddens me when I think that this music has faded from the pubic's consciousness. People now "genre-ize" it as "smooth jazz." Man, there is nothing "smooth" or white bread about this at all. Try "Bite Jazz."

At this time Larry was using custom made "Valley Arts" versions of strats, tele's, and for a while stopped using the Gibson ES-335 mostly because he was needing guitars that were able to cut through the mid-range and compete with the treble slightly! Since getting more and more into the blues,, he's fallen back in love with his main axe the ~ES-335~ ~!~
