This Rube Goldberg contraption consists of 427 individual steps!
Built by Chevrolet Menlo, Wang Xiqi and Guan Jian and invented by Rube Goldberg in 1928, these lengthy machines were invented as a way to make simple tasks overly complicated.

That would be very annoying. Someone to add onto that is that rube Goldberg machines are not accurate all of the time and this video probably took many shots to be able to pull off and fully deal the video. If this was a successful shots and the cameraman forgot to record that would be very upsetting and very very sad.
While the machine is very impressive by total size, a lot of the machine excluding the slanted table section, is paced wayyy too fast. It's nearly impossible to follow the steps at times with how fast they are being triggered, which takes away from enjoying the tricks as you have basicly no time to take in each trick.

And isn't the faster it's going, the more energy it has? So then the machine can run for a longer period with greater beginning kinetic energy? Hence the world record, longest run? Idk man I'm wicked drunk

Brilliant! Mesmerising, but also quirky and creative. Well done!
To truly be a Rube Goldberg device, there needs to be the completion of a simple task at the very end and/or a series of simple tasks along the way and at the end, such as making toast, turning on a coffee pot, cracking an egg into a pan, etc. That being said, it is a wonderful set up for becoming a Rube Goldberg device.

Agreed, I see no syrup on my pancakes lol I also wonder if the steps have to be different because theoretically you could just do the most simple one over and over again

I am sure it did go wrong and had to be adjusted many times. My friend and I used to make smaller, simpler versions as children with cardboard taped to a wall. It took a lot of modifications.
I would like to thank the legends behind this video for all of the hard work; trial and error; and hours that went into it. While I only experienced four minutes, it was deeply satisfying!

Imagine if one thing goes wrong 3 quarters through and you need to set up the whole thing again.
wow, It takes time to arrange this stuff. great
When you try not to make noise in the kitchen at 3 am but you drop a spoon
When you’re trying to tip toe to the kitchen in the middle of the night
CAMERA GUY: Oops! Run it once more, the camera was out of focus! CONTRAPTION CREATOR: No problem, come back in three months & we'll reshoot.
That was the least fun Rube Goldberg machine I've ever seen.

If you were able to follow a single part of this you deserve a medal.
Home alone on the next level
That light switch has some serious latency issues.
The length is extremely impressive, as is the fine tuning needed. Someone else states one issue, it's too fast to follow in many areas. On top of that, the goal of a world record pretty much sapped the eclectic mix of oddities that Rube Goldberg machines are known for. This sacrificed the goofiness that should be inherent in all RGMs and instead utilized only steel balls and the same few simple machines triggered by them in order to chase a piece of paper and a blurb in a book. Here's hoping that whomever achieved this record pursues the zaniness needed to advance science instead of simply looking for notoriety.
