here's a few ideas for diy railroad layout construction Find a proven set of plans online Find a colleague who wants to build one too so you have another person to encourage you (I discovered these and the reasons they work from Jareks hobby club website )

Bri I as a young dude, I have grown up with garden railways in my backyard. All you need is enough space, money, and time. If time is limited, there isn’t any requirement as to how large it must be. Once I’m solo I’m gonna start simple.

This fellow looks and sounds like my uncle of long ago. He had multiple talents... An engineer with Northern Telecom, he had a beautiful garden with roses, he created that typical miniature rose variety that is everywhere today. At the time it was named after him. Hopefully, this garden will become another legacy for the future from the past. Terrific imagination and work 👍

Speaking as someone who grew up with model trains and just loves trains in general, I cannot state enough how cool I think this is, and how seriously impressed I am with this man's railway; a standard railway takes a lot of time and care to set up, but this looks like heaps of dedication and devotion.

Hi from the UK, Dennis mentioned about the weather being an issue ( snow ice, rain, etc ), Do you get tornadoes, land hurricanes, things like that in that part of America, If so, that would be a disaster having that amazing piece of work blown away. A lot of the big budget garden trains I see dominates the yard. This design fits beautifully into the landscape as if it belongs there. I'll remember this one when I dream about my own garden rail. Someday....

Growing up my Uncle Glenn worked for CSX as a Conductor before finishing out his 40 year career as a train Engineer a few years ago. But we lived only around the corner from the train crossing and my uncle Glenn would make a call from the trains phone to either my grandma or my aunt and tell them to “Go get Cody and come sit by the crossing I’ll be coming by in about 10 minutes or so.” As a little boy seeing my uncle Glenn coming by on a massive CSX Locomotive blaring the train horns was one of my most favorite childhood memories. My dad would get a bit jealous that him being a Police Officer and a motorcycle cop at that was second place to a CSX Loco lol. But my uncle did have a few opportunities to stop the train wether it was for being on the switch track letting another train pass or CSX rail crews would be on the tracks up ahead doing some sort of track maintenance and in those instances I would be picked up out of my car seat or my stroller and he would carry me down the tracks to the train and bring me up in the cab with him and I still laugh and smile thinking about it to this day at 28 years old. It meant the world to me because he is one of my hero’s and being that my dad has since passed away from cancer forcing him to leave law Enforcement after 38 years because of cancer. And losing my uncle al from a brain tumor so all I have left is my uncle Glenn and I still ask him does he remember those days and he always says “you have asked me this your entire life toad frog! Of course I remember that!” Lol.. Always felt cool to have a cop for a dad and a train conductor/engineer for a uncle lol.

That's quite a few to keep me busy for a while. Some of the ones I've seen really capture the spirit of an age gone by, many representing features that will never be seen in real life again.

I love this layout! I especially love the 2-6-0 Mogul with the passenger train.

Dennis, and Bill in memorium, words just can't say enough, but I'll try... your train display is just amazing, spectacular, and down right beautiful. I have a G-Gauge set with 2 trains that I set up with the kids for Christmas, in the house, that runs all over the living room with switch tracks and cross tracks; it's just a lot of fun. So with that in mind, you can imagine how I could spend hours just sitting and watching your trains and the wonderful scenery. So peaceful, and the detail is stunning. You can really get lost and make up your own story-line in your head while you gaze away...

This is amazing! My dad was a Pullman Porter and I wanted a train one year and I got a Lionel Train set and he and his friend put the railroad tracks on plywood and that's where I would run my train. I had to be 11 or 12 and a girl. This brings back some fond memories for me. Thank's Dennis!

I have to say that this is an accurate definition of "labor of love".

I can't imagine the amount of patience, pain, perseverance, labor and time that went into building this project. Holy Cow! Shaking my head in disbelief! I get a bit annoyed when all I have to do is take the trash out and sweep the garage, and that takes all of about 15 minutes. This guy is miraculous!

Dear Lou, toy trains have been a life time interest of mine. This garden railway and in particular the memorial to it's builder is wonderful! I used to have L.G.B. Toy trains on A very small living room floor in my apartment. Most of trains very Steiff teddy bears for decoration. L.G.B. And Steiff did a joint venture to decorate trains with teddy bears. I also had a product called the Fotuna Flyer, a powered flat car by an propeller with a W W one era barn storming pilot! Thank You! Peter Brooks.

Really cool... The one improvement that came to mind again and again though was to disguise the base of the buildings. Not sure if that's possible but it would be nice if the gray boards were hidden.

I can't even keep up with my yard Never mind something like this What does he do in the winter take the buildings and the cars in being Chicago and all Regardless very cool

Cars go in the garage and some of the buildings too, but much of the layout stays outside.

I'm a little bit of a hobbyist myself. But, I have to say this is by far the best hobby to have. Though expensive, it is also a creative hobby as well.

The part of the house (where the trains go in and out) that faces the tracks, he should paint either a billboard or landscape or city scape. Very cool train layout. Thank you for sharing.
