Large convoy of armoured police trucks in Northern Ireland 🚓

Convoys of Armoured Personnel Carriers rush in to support police officers under attack from petrol bombs while making terror arrests in Derry/Londonderry, Northern Ireland.
On Easter Monday afternoon of April 18th, 2021, Police Service of Northern Ireland (PSNI) reported that they had observed a number of offences being committed during an event in Derry/Londonderry in Northern Ireland, UK. Subsequently officers moved in to make arrests before they were then attacked by petrol bombs and missiles.
Several people were arrested under the Terrorism Act and another arrested for disorderly behaviour. Police also seized what they described as suspected terrorist uniforms, petrol bombs and vehicles gathered as evidence in their investigation.
You'll notice some Land Rovers returning with burn scars after being bombed.

these things are actually called/referred to as Pangolins (I believe the company that converts them is called Pangolin Armour) and they’re not far off £90k per unit; They’re hilarious to see just out and about casually driving around Belfast haha, a nice reminder of Northern Ireland’s hostile history. I live in a quiet neighbourhood in south Belfast, and a few months ago some drunk fella somehow managed to make his way into my neighbourhood and was making all kinds of noise in the middle night, so a neighbour called the police and about four or five of these PSNI Pangolins showed up filled with officers to detain him and whisk him away 🤣

@BURNZY1234 interesting...... actually i was wondering what it meant because i have seen it used here just once.... so it's nice to actually know what these Bombproof vehicles are actually referred to as...... and i don't think that was a good idea of that drunk guy to come and disrupt the sleep of a quiet neighbourhood ...... and also i thing that these are really needed at times especially if riots get too serious........ and since i am from India, riots here in my country are always very violent people who riot end up burning up mounds of tires and even burning up buses and police vehicles and destroying public property and stuff...... and it can be dangerous for anyone who is just minding their own business to be caught by and group be it a group of rioters or a band of police officers........and normally the police just use water cannons or tear gas shells to drive a pesky crowd of rioters, but if necessary, they will use these big heavy sticks called "Lathi" in my national language Hindi and when these things are used it's called "A Lathi Charge" because groups of police officers use them to chase protesters away ..... so it would be nice to see these on our streets at times......

@@CobraEmergency These are called Land Rover Tangi nicked named meat wagons here in Northern Ireland. They are built on the Land Rover 110 chassis and engine. They are equipped with 3mm steel sheet that protects the radiator with ballistic amour all around. The first versions in 1986 didn't have any amour on the roof and the RUC which at the time was our police had to use their shields as a second layer to protect themselves obviously this problem was fixed. These 110 Land Rovers were amoured by the RUC's own engineers. If you scratched away the white paint you will see the original grey paint of the RUC. These Land Rovers would be more armoured than the British Army's Snatch Land Rover at the height of the Troubles. There are tons of videos of them in use and they are very reliable even for their age. It is an experience to stand infront of these monsters with a row of riot shields even if violence doesn't kick off.

OVIC bought all the old defenders they could lay their hands on, ex PSNI and ex military. They rebuilt them from the ground up, drive train, brakes, electrics and latest generation armour and called them PANGOLINS ( a small armadillo type creature). Most went to the PSNI but many mainland police forces bought some of the variants. The MET chose a different route they bought JANKEL GUARDIANS built on the Ford F150 chassis. They are all 05 registered and stored at Heathrow. OVIC have now created an all new armoured vehicle, it still slightly resembles a defender but everything is new from scratch.

I suspect the cars do not have light bars for the same reason the vans have their roof beacons in cages. They'd spend too much time and money repairing and replacing them. The beacons are flashing by the way, just they're illuminated quicker than the camera shutter speed so the camera doesn't catch it.

It's a contested area because it's in Ireland but controlled by Britain (the UK). So there has been ongoing conflict for hundreds of years between Irish nationalists & British unionists (not labor unions, but colonists from the UK who wish to remain part of the UK). Brexit has exacerbated tension because it's not possible to have an open border with both Britain & the rest of Ireland (which gained independence & is part of the EU). So unionists are angry that the border controls with the UK make them feel rejected by the UK.
