Funny enough, that is the recommended real world approach when getting attacked by a shark. They have very sensitive receptors in the nose and punching it is supposed to positively deter a shark from trying again.

LOVE this segment! Appreciate these reviews that don't peel apart every layer and try to uncover every flaw we all know are there. Just great fun and enjoying them for what they are. Bravo!! 👏
You absolutely hit the nail on the head about the ending. The scene at the end where Lara Croft shoots and kills Gerard Butler's character, how many movies do you know would ever have the balls to do something like that?! You almost never see that! There is no romantic, sappy run off into the sunset between lovers or anything like that. Lara Croft realizes that Gerard Butler has to be sacrificed for the greater good of humanity. The Pandora's Box has absolutely corrupted him.
@Kayjee17

The thing is, Lara had him pegged from the beginning of the movie because of how close they were in the past. She handcuffed him to that bed and told him the truth - if he came with her, she would have to end up killing him. He did exactly what she knew he would, and she did exactly what she said she would. I admire a woman who tells the truth and refuses to let her feelings stop her from doing what's right... and it doesn't hurt when she's that damn beautiful! She's always made my little bi heart beat faster, and I'm not even jealous that my partner feels the same.
10:06 I actually liked the 2018 Tomb Raider movie. But stuff like the look on Angelina Jolie's face here is why when you say 'Tomb Raider', people reply 'Angelina Jolie'. The movies with Angelina Jolie may be cheesy, but she sure sells the pure joy for being Lara Croft. Angelina Jolie sells that she IS Lara, and not that she PLAYS Lara
As an elder millenial I absolutely love the first Tomb Raider movie. It has its flaws but it''s fun, doesn't take itself too seriously, never a dull moment and has plenty of turn-of-the-millenium nostalgia for me personally. The same goes for Cradle of Life - in some respects better and in others worse, but always fun. It's a damn shame we never got a third film with Angelina Jolie.
That scene of Bryce and Hillary getting accidentally married is so hilarious 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Angelina Jolie is and always will be the only live-action Lara Croft that matters.
"She just kills him and goes home" that's the old-school Lara we know and love
I saw Cradle of Life once as a kid when it came out in theaters. I have seen the first movie a million times, genuinely love it. I think it’s a great movie. I might as well have not ever seen the second one for how much I do not remember it. I think I just saw it once in theaters and never went out of my way to watch it again, so I guess I must have just not liked it very much. Good timing on the video, because just the other day my brother and I were actually talking about this, how much we love the first Tomb Raider movie but don’t remember the second, and that we should do something to change it. I think we’d probably have a great time watching the second movie this time around.
The film that introduced Gerry Butler into my life! Heck, he even got to me in the teaser trailer for this one! Been madly in love with that man ever since. He & Angie had great & believable chemistry. And I so agree that it was very ballsy to kill his character off at the end. It dared to show how determined Lara can & must be to her mission. Since I was already a big Tomb Raider fan at this time & had played most of the oldest games regularly, Cradle of Life was a welcome emotional add to her story & her character. Would never have happened if Gerry had not played this character as well as he did.
Isn’t it wild that for you, Ebert was one of the only people whose opinions on movies you trusted, and now you are that person for millions of people? Also these movies are soooo good and one of my favorite things about this channel is the lack of pretense. We can enjoy this franchise for what it is, some of the best fun action-adventure there is. Also it’s so good I feel like people forget, THIS IS A VIDEO GAME ADAPTATION. Literally what more could we have asked for from a Tomb Raider movie???
Wild how with these segments I keep finding out that Chris and I have extremely similar nostalgia for all these films.
Been waiting for this video ever since your Hilariocity review of the first one 😃 Love them both!

You know, I love a good action movie grounded in reality, but there's nothing wrong with movies like this that just wanna have fun. Both Tomb Raider movies might not be on the same level as other adventure films, but they still check off that box of being "fun" and "enjoyable", and not just something to pass the time.
I was 20 when I was watching the first one in 2001. I felt 50 years old by time the credits rolled. But! I will say I get nostalgic for films from that summer because America was still sane, and so was much of the rest of the world.
I'm with you Chris. I love these movies. They are so much fun, and came out at just the right time for me. I still have my copy of Wizard Magazine with Angelina on the cover being announced as Lara Croft... and a giant 27 x 40 poster for Cradle of Life with her in the wet suit. Great stuff!!
Glad to see you back.
I remember the year cradle of life came out. 2003 was labeled the year of the sequel because of so many sequels releasing that year.

I loved the Tomb Raider games as a teenager. I also love the Laura Croft movies. They based the movies from the PlayStation games. I think that for the people who are younger, they wouldn't like the y2k era TR movies. For our Generation though the LC movies are a testament to our era of technology and special FX in movies advancing. If ya know, ya know!
i look back fondly on being the age i was when i saw this in theatres with a friend, it was right before the more awkward teenage years started and and now we are all way too old to ever make those same memories, 13 was one of my better years
I really love Angelina Jolie films Tomb Raider!! Makes me loved her even more like actress and person!!
I used to watch this movie on dvd all the time
I can feel your entusiasm through the screen Chris, very genuine video, loved it! I need to rewatch this movie soon, It's been years :)
lara croft 🖤 i prefer the first too, but this one is still fun 😎 i had the novelization as a kid lol
Incredibly awesome movie. I loved it. It was incredible. It was awesome. Her acting was amazing. The supporting cast was amazing. We talk about the movie as well, and all of the great memories it gave us, and how it was a magical moment for us. Such a great film!
I remember seeing this film in the theater and during the ending where Lara does NOT open Pandora's box - a guy in our row got up and walked out very upset. That is my strongest memory of the film... :)
I love that movie
Man, i loved this review. There are absolutely some movies i loved during this time period that technically suck but hold this niche sentimental value

Congats, Chris! you nailed the dialog tree! For me, I'm not sure I remember anything about either Tomb Raider movie.
The transfer on this Bluray was also astonishing. It’s almost 4K crispy.
Love the Tomb Raider movies and the National Treasure movies, my guilty pleasures
there are a group of movies that are often grouped together as "better than they should be" and the early 2000s Tomb Raider movies are two of those movies. I hadn't seen either in a long time and I really should go back and check them out after all these years.
Great review chris! And I agree with you about movies being "guilty pleasures". I'm not going to feel guilty for liking ANY movie. If I like the movie, IDC what anyone says.
Dracula 2000 is so good i used to watch it so much when i was younger
Underrated movie!!
Saw it I theaters.
Chris, I also liked the Tomb Raider movies. I probably don't love them as much as you do. But you and I are the same age. I remember having wall paper of Lara from the first movie on my computer Dekstop. I think I liked the first one more than Cradle of Life, but both are still fun action movies and that's what I like about them. Also that's really awesome you and your wife had something to bond over. I felt the same thing when my gf and I started talking about video games and anime.
My first videogame ever was Tomb Raider III so when the movie came out I was very excited. I love how Angelina delivered, I love both movies and I don’t know I just need to see some bad ass woman again like this. So Im going to prepare popcorn to see again both movies ❤
YES YES YES. The better of the 2 TR AJ films.
I love Tomb raider 2 premiere Angelina look
Since theyre remaking the Tomb Raider games and they’re very popular, they should just go and do another movie for the fun of it… not a serious one like the remake but a fun, silly, over the top WITH Angelina in it of course
I loved the first one 😂
loved the movie, dracula 2000 is fun too.
One of my favorite guilty Pleasures is the dark tower movie. I know it has flaws but the concept of a gunslinger. Hunting down a wizard in an alternate dimension is awesome. I can't wait to see what Mike Flanagan does with this idea
I really liked this review, man. keep up the good work. I appreciate you giving YOUR valid opinions on movies, even if others on the internet have different opinions. I come to your channel for YOUR opinion. I also go to other movie critic channels for their opinions.
So true! Tomb Raider movies are not guilty pleasure, they are just too much fun!
lol I worked on shorts and studied editing I actually never realized the day for night till you mentioned in this review. Good eye haha
Good Lord man, that silent Harney & Sons intro was A E S T H E T I C
5:40 - Just to throw it out there, the main reason she's destroying everything (and even making her butler feel uneasy) is because she's massively pissed that the enemy got hold of an artefact she'd been looking for for years, as well as killing her friends in the process (the Greek family that accompanies her in the underwater cave).
Another chance for Chris to get back into the “HILARIOCITY” side
Been waiting for this since the tomb raider hilariocity! 😅
Wow! I never thought it was day for night. I thought it was the wierdness of the environment around the box that, as you point out, gets wierder.
I liked the 2nd more than the 1st. The instrumental song that plays during the aftermath of the final confrontation is amazing. Song name is Cradle of life.

Big fan of both Tomb Raider films & have watched many times 👍 Angelina J did a great job bringing the character to life & Cradle was first time seeing yummy Gerard Butler on screen 😍 I also ❤ the score on the Tomb Raider sequel. Great to see you talking about a Guilty Pleasure movie again. Please talk about the Daredevil movie.
Been a fan of all things Tomb Raider since the first game came out. Loved these movies, also the recent reboot one. My personal story with this one in particular is that supposedly I was talking to Jolie through Yahoo Messenger. Never actually believed it until a friend confirmed it was her when she called their youngest son on his birthday.
God I can never forget how bad that day for night looked
Drácula 2000 has a quote that always makes me laugh... Dignity, Doctor
When I was 9 years old I threw up on the carpet of a Circuit City because I stood there and played Mario VirtuaTennis for hours.
Maybe I'll have to revisit this movie since I did not have the same experience with it. I own the DVD so maybe I'll rewatch.
I will say that I did not like the first Tomb Raider at all, but really enjoyed part 2. I thought everything was just done better and there was a more cohesive through line to the story. I remember watching it and saying "That Gerard Butler guy, he's gonna be a star one day." Also, that shot of Angelina Jolie's eyes behind the door of the lab right before breaking in has got to be the best shot of the series.
