You absolutely hit the nail on the head about the ending. The scene at the end where Lara Croft shoots and kills Gerard Butler's character, how many movies do you know would ever have the balls to do something like that?! You almost never see that! There is no romantic, sappy run off into the sunset between lovers or anything like that. Lara Croft realizes that Gerard Butler has to be sacrificed for the greater good of humanity. The Pandora's Box has absolutely corrupted him.

  • @Kayjee17

The thing is, Lara had him pegged from the beginning of the movie because of how close they were in the past. She handcuffed him to that bed and told him the truth - if he came with her, she would have to end up killing him. He did exactly what she knew he would, and she did exactly what she said she would. I admire a woman who tells the truth and refuses to let her feelings stop her from doing what's right... and it doesn't hurt when she's that damn beautiful! She's always made my little bi heart beat faster, and I'm not even jealous that my partner feels the same.

10:06 I actually liked the 2018 Tomb Raider movie. But stuff like the look on Angelina Jolie's face here is why when you say 'Tomb Raider', people reply 'Angelina Jolie'. The movies with Angelina Jolie may be cheesy, but she sure sells the pure joy for being Lara Croft. Angelina Jolie sells that she IS Lara, and not that she PLAYS Lara

As an elder millenial I absolutely love the first Tomb Raider movie. It has its flaws but it''s fun, doesn't take itself too seriously, never a dull moment and has plenty of turn-of-the-millenium nostalgia for me personally. The same goes for Cradle of Life - in some respects better and in others worse, but always fun. It's a damn shame we never got a third film with Angelina Jolie.

I saw Cradle of Life once as a kid when it came out in theaters. I have seen the first movie a million times, genuinely love it. I think it’s a great movie. I might as well have not ever seen the second one for how much I do not remember it. I think I just saw it once in theaters and never went out of my way to watch it again, so I guess I must have just not liked it very much. Good timing on the video, because just the other day my brother and I were actually talking about this, how much we love the first Tomb Raider movie but don’t remember the second, and that we should do something to change it. I think we’d probably have a great time watching the second movie this time around.

The film that introduced Gerry Butler into my life! Heck, he even got to me in the teaser trailer for this one! Been madly in love with that man ever since. He & Angie had great & believable chemistry. And I so agree that it was very ballsy to kill his character off at the end. It dared to show how determined Lara can & must be to her mission. Since I was already a big Tomb Raider fan at this time & had played most of the oldest games regularly, Cradle of Life was a welcome emotional add to her story & her character. Would never have happened if Gerry had not played this character as well as he did.

Isn’t it wild that for you, Ebert was one of the only people whose opinions on movies you trusted, and now you are that person for millions of people? Also these movies are soooo good and one of my favorite things about this channel is the lack of pretense. We can enjoy this franchise for what it is, some of the best fun action-adventure there is. Also it’s so good I feel like people forget, THIS IS A VIDEO GAME ADAPTATION. Literally what more could we have asked for from a Tomb Raider movie???

You know, I love a good action movie grounded in reality, but there's nothing wrong with movies like this that just wanna have fun. Both Tomb Raider movies might not be on the same level as other adventure films, but they still check off that box of being "fun" and "enjoyable", and not just something to pass the time.

@@OddOneOut665 He quit directing after this movie. He said that the interference from the studio ruined his desire to direct again. There's an interview from about four years ago called "Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life Experience Was So Bad, It Make Jan de Bont Quit Directing" on Movie web if you want to read more into it

I remember seeing trailers for this movie and it’s kind of scaring me because there is at home fight scene with the creatures in the dark, so it’s always been edged in my mind since then

The first Tomb Raider is awesome... like it's actually a good movie... this one not so much, but still fun

Been a fan of all things Tomb Raider since the first game came out. Loved these movies, also the recent reboot one. My personal story with this one in particular is that supposedly I was talking to Jolie through Yahoo Messenger. Never actually believed it until a friend confirmed it was her when she called their youngest son on his birthday.

Maybe I'll have to revisit this movie since I did not have the same experience with it. I own the DVD so maybe I'll rewatch.

I will say that I did not like the first Tomb Raider at all, but really enjoyed part 2. I thought everything was just done better and there was a more cohesive through line to the story. I remember watching it and saying "That Gerard Butler guy, he's gonna be a star one day." Also, that shot of Angelina Jolie's eyes behind the door of the lab right before breaking in has got to be the best shot of the series.
