Yes it is! We have a Lapinporokoira, aged 1.5 years old. It's a male and his name is Kiitos. I recognize all the characteristics you mention in your video. Thank you for sharing.

I have an old lady and she is the best! Intelligent, devoted, likes to wonder. Really friendly, but protects well against bears. She has her own opinion, but obeys if needed. I recommend them for families!

I found my lapponian herder in a shelter in Collin County, Texas. I spent so long trying to figure out what breed he was, when I came across the lapponian herder. Not only do the characteristics of the breed match him perfectly, he is a spitting image of so many images I see. I'm so lucky to have such a beautiful boy, he's everything to me

I doubt he’s a Lapponian herder. They are so rare in the USA for that breed ending up in a shelter. Most likely a husky mix what you have. Only a handful of breeders in the USA of them.

I love my Lapponian Herder, Beans, so much. Very hard to pick one special thing about her! Super smart and loving, amazing with kiddos, very athletic, and is still really chill most of the time. Nine years old and still get the zoomies every first snow of the year.

My mom gave this dog to us when we were little. Super smart, learn tricks easy but had an independent spirit. The dog loved to wander. Always came home for supper though.

I adopted a lapponian herder. The shelter didn't know and said it was a mixed breed. But when I took a photo and let google search links to lapponian herder showed up. Reading the bio of the breed. It is confirmed she is a lapponian herder. Mine is still a pup of 10 months old. I got her a bit more then 3 weeks now. She is very sweet. ❤

You are amazing for adopting!

I've got 2 Lapinporokoira's a 15 year old and a 5 year old, both males. Lapinporokoira is such an fantastic breed with a even more fantastic character, I love their "non slave"/independent attitude. They can be very obedient, but if they don't see the point of the command (5x sit and down in obedient class) they can be very stubborn. If you don't respect that character, this breed isn't the breed for you

There is a Lapponian Herder at the shelter in Conroe Texas, they have him listed as a sheppard mix, is there anyway to post him so someone that might be interested in this breed can save him? I am very surprized that this amazing dog is needing rescue....

Hi!! I am thinking of getting a dog and I love how the Lapponian herder looks. Ofc it’s not about the looks, but the personality and I have done som reading. But it’s not that much information so I will ask you. I am a active and social person who love animals. Is this a good dog for me? 1. Im at school from like 8:30 AM - 3 PM. Can the dog be home alone? 2. If not, my mom and dad works at a office. Is the dog a good dog for just laying down or something beside while they work? My mom or dad walks to job and it takes 30 minutes, so if it’s 30 minutes till and back will that be good walking for the dog? Of course I will walk the dog in morning and nights and go on bigger walks in the weekends like being i. Forest or mountains. 3. We have never owned a dog before but my dad has experience with dogs because his sister and friends have dogs. My 3 closest friends also have dogs which I like to be with. So the question is the dog a good starter dog/ good first time dog? 4. Is it easy to train? 5. Does it do well with strangers? 6. Is the breed cozy/cuddly? 7. Can it swim well? 8. Is it good socialising with other dogs? 9. Obedient level 1-10 10. Good with kids 11. Does it need to socialise with other dogs and humans at young age Have I forgotten something or can you say something extra?, if so it would be nice to hear If you answer this it will mean so much and I hope you have a great day and thanks for taking ur time

Hello, every dog is individual and no one will guarantee you how exactly will your dog behave and what will be its exact needs. Also it is vastly influenced by early training and socialization. But in general, the Lapponian Herder is a very loyal and gentle breed. If you will train the dog from the puppyhood to be home alone (you should start with shorter periods and slowly prolong it), than i believe they can definitely stay alone at home for 7 hours. It is better if you would go on a longer walk in the morning and before you will leave them alone. Sometimes they can be little bit barky when they are left home alone for too long. These dogs tend to be pretty active and energetic when they are outside, when they have some work to do, but they tend to be pretty calm indoors if their exercise needs are fullfilled. Of course, puppies will be much more active than adults. About the trainability, this is highly trainable breed, that will get the commands pretty quickly. Their higher energy and alertness might be challanging for first time dog owners, but it is still quite managable breed that can be handled if you have at least some experiences with dogs (and if your dad has experiences than i think it can be okay, if he will help you with raising the dog). These dogs can be aloof and alert towards strangers and it can take a while before a stranger gets a trust of this dog. They are not agressive towards them, but not overly friendly neither. Some Lapponian Herders will be cuddly, some not so much.. This is very individual.. But they are very friendly towards its family and typically they love playing with kids. They also tend to do okay around dogs and around other smaller household pets as well. They can swim, but i can not guarantee you that your dog will enjoy it :D But they are capable of swimming. And yes, every dog needs early socialization with other people and animals in different enviromnents. This is true for any dog breed.

We just got our puppy recently so no expert but I think if you want to be able to be able to leave them alone for long periods of time you will have to be diligent about exercise and keeping their mind active. Super smart, trainable but independent so might be inclined towards mischief if not occupied properly.

Raindeerhuntingbreed? This is not a breed you have if you just want to have a dog. Like the finish and swedish lapdog or other arctic races... they are happiest working. And by working i mean all day. Not after officehours. Working with you if you work outside and extra plus if your still outside after "work". Only then they are in their true nature and become who they are suppose to be.
