LAPLAND | The Untouched
Footage licensing: www.stockfootage.fi/lapland-t...
Lapland - the Untouched takes you to some of the remotest places in the Finnish wilderness. These uninhabited and roadless areas, home to Sámi people, have remained in their near-natural state hidden away from most of mankind - unspoilt, as they should be.
In the northernmost Lapland summer is over before it even begins. During the snow-free time the only way to reach the locations shown in the film is by foot. Lapland the Untouched covers 600km of hiking at Sápmi in 6 wilderness areas and in the Urho Kekkonen National Park and the Kevo Strict Nature Reserve.
I’ve done timelapse-films alone for quite some time now and doing everything on your own requires a lot. Carrying half of your weight in gear in the wild may be physically hard, but the greatest battles are fought in the mind. During the less pleasant moments you realise just how alone you really are and begin to understand what really matters the most. This theme and the extensive Lapland project inspired my shortfilm, The Importance of Being Alone • The Importance of Bein...
This project taught me to love and appreciate what I’ve got - not only the amazing people in my life, but also these breathtaking wilderness areas and natural vistas we all share. After witnessing the captivating beauty of these locations it’s appalling to think that similar places around the world are destroyed and exploited relentlessly by mankind and its foolish needs.
Timelapse and video material from this film is available for licensing in 8K and 4K resolutions. Contact me for inquiries: riku@rikukarjalainen.com

This reminds me of a post apocalyptic world. Majority of Humanity wiped out. Leaving mother nature to reclaim the land she lost. Leaving absolute silence and beauty. A post apocalyptic world doesn't have to have all destruction and fire. There is beauty and wildlife with streams and rains transform the landscape to it's original.

Thanks Cody and well expressed. The feeling to hike on open wilderness is close to this experience.

Well, the only way humanity would be wiped would a nuclear holocaust - then the nature would take hits too. Just better work for peace of the existing humanity: every positive step is a victory. Otherwise people just stay in the death spiral.

This put a tear in my eye. How we southerners forget the beauty of our homeland. This reminded me of the restfulness and peace that is a part of me but struggles to be felt during life in the city.

Hello, Thank you very much for this beautiful film ! Best wishes ! Jean-Charles Bourquin, in France
I recognize quite many of those locations, and I have to say - those are very, very remote places. It takes real effort to get there. Don't even think that you can take a bus or a taxi or anything like that to visit those places :D Forget it!!! You have to travel there by foot for days and days, endure unpredictable weather, sleep in a cold tent - but it's all worth it. In the end, it's magnificient!
The color you chose for the letters of the title of the thubnail is fantastic! And such a beautiful timelapse!

Thank you a lot! I understand your point. I've been living in the middle of Finland for the most of life. Being surrounded roughly only by forests, I've been always very interested in open víews. Like in this film. So I would say that I didn't see the same beauty as you in the forests. But spending 2,5 months surrounded by these views it really got me missing also home and it's nature. I didn't have special relationship to nature at young age, but through these experiences the view is developing step by step and right now the "ordinary" we have is more beautiful every day.

thanks! By hiking and yes, not that much other people around. Average stay in the wild took 5-6 days and in some cases didn't meet anyone for the whole stay.
Another great video. It's interesting, how modern trends are: more natural grading and using normal and telephoto lenses more than ultra wide. What do you think about using sony cameras? I tried a7s2 for a while and it's ergonomics is awful, can't understand how people can use them))) btw, i made mine first timelapse clip from Karelia
@RikuKarjalainenPhotography

Thank you Mikhail. Ergonomics haven't been a problem, even they're far away from Canon imo. But after doing this every day you, I got used to it. First I was little scared how the A7Rii will do with metabones adapter, but there was no problems and very few missed shots.
