until 1893, Laos is larger than Thailand, until France and Thailand divide the Laos borders along the Mekong , the left bank becomes a French colony (now laos) , right bank goes to thailand (now isan), outside of chiang mai, until then there are still pillars of the border between laos and thailand. modern Thailand has about 30 million Laotians and their descendants, that is, more than the population of Laos Vientiane 3 times was burned from Siam (Thailand) , and every time after Vientiane is burned, they are evacuating the entire population of Vientiane to Thailand, so that the city does not rise . therefore, Vientiane has a small population mainly from the province, although Vientiane was the capital of Laos (the royal million elephants) for 461 years

Thailand treated Laos like a second class peoole after they took most of lao skilled artisans labor folks to build Thailand. At the end after they had built the country, their hands were cutoff or killed. Another sad history is also when Thailand sided with Japan during WW2, they rounded up many lao isan to slave labor concentration camps to build railroad and all ended up killed at the end.

It is very lucky that no surrogacy is booming in Laos unlike in our neighbouring Thailand, we have uncountable lao women marrying foreigners in here and they are so great

‘Beautiful’ cloudy day. Guess it should be the rainy season now. Great video as always bro. Lao people are more laid back - Sabai Sabai. They are very friendly. Even when I was working there, they were offering me for ‘Long hair dictionary’ to help me out. Generally they are more receptive of foreigners. Some of the fruits and food(meat and seafood) supplies come from Vietnam, Thai or China. The Banh Minh (sandwich) is delicious and I sure miss them. I miss the Laap, pho, Lao Beer and Lao Lao too.😉

In Laos most all Falangs (white foreigners, from the word France) are held in very high esteem. It comes from the Lao history. While Lao people were vassals to the Thai Siam (starting from the 18-th century) a Lao king of the Vientiane Kingdom made an uprising but he failed which led to the annihilation of his kingdom. The town destroyed to the roots, the inhabitants taken away to the right side of the river (Isan today). The French when they proclaimed the Protectorate of Indochina in the last years of the 19-th century they took away from Thai Siam half of the Lao lands. From the half of that lands emerged the present day's Laos (after the WWII). Thankfully to this act of "colonialism" Laotians in the left side of the river didn't share the fate of the people in Isan and in Lan Na. It's understandable that the intermarriage between French and Lao has been always natural and has nothing to matter. Five of my good friends married French women. P.S.: in the contrary to Thailand, Lao women have no trend to marry Falangs. You don't see them in places where the tourists gather.

Holy turd-balls, some real lalapaloozer comments today Todd. Hey I want to thank u for the last 4 months of entertainment on your channel. I was off work that whole time traveling almost 5000 miles round trip for a complete new knee and then therapy and all. Neenee, you Coca and the Laos people helped keep me sane and entertained. Couldn't of done it without you all. Of course this was all when the virus shyt hit the fan too. I kinda live way up north (130 miles from the arctic circle) so a great doctor is far away. During mid-October 2021, US$4.64 for 36 eggs (3 dozen) at Walmart in Northern VA near Washington, DC. Not a bad price, about the cheapest for good quality. Much more if the chickens are specially treated, non-GMO fed.

Many people in the USA eat at a place with the word "Pho" in the name and the customers still think it is a Chinese restaurant. Medicare provides medical care for people in the USA that are 66 years old and older. For a healthy person in their late 60s it cost about $500 per month. And costs increase as a person gets older. Plus there are additional costs for people that have a big drug bill. Some people can not afford to buy their prescription drugs. A person can drop out of Medicare and get Medicare Advantage but they still have to pay Medicare about $200 per month. And with Medicare Advantage they may die due to lack of proper medical care. And they may suffer due to lack of proper medical care. Medicare for Medicare recipients.

Hey Todd. A bahn mi combo goes for $5 (US) for a 6 inch sub here in Massachusetts. As far as the vendor goes, it is what it is. If you are not happy with the way the food is handled and prepared walk away. I saw flies landing on the baguettes. Are there health codes for restaurants and food vendors? Do they need a license to sell food at the market? I do not think there is any government control over this. Have a good one and thanks for an interesting video. Peace ☮️

Hey Diggy...exactly! Go elsewhere. No, anybody can sell food here on the streets or in the market mate, just pay for the space you're using, no license required. Health codes... hmm 🤔 There'd have to be something for restaurants, but im yet to see an inspector yet. For street vendors... i doubt it... but hey, that's streetfood right 😁👍

Very nice pineapple mate, sweet and juicy! Have seen a few different types of apples and also had some of the sweetest mandarins i have ever tasted from up in the Bokeo province. Northern Laos, does get a lot cooler in the winter months than down around Vientiane and further south

Laos is a very poor country that’s why. They only recently opened for tourism

Well over 10 years ago had a drink in a city centre bar owned and run by an English guy .Think he'd been there for around 2 years . He'd been told by an intermediary that a prominent Lao family were looking at him as a potential match for their daughter . Found this out only because I asked him what was it like trying to form relationship in Lao . Seemed like a straight up guy . So it would seem if your in good standing no one has a problem with a foreigner / Lao marriage .

Just don't eat meat or eggs. 28 years of Asian street food eating, not once did I get food poisoning since I stopped eating meat or eggs from street vendors.

eggs, in Europe 0.11 till 0.45 € for 1 egg. thats 3.5€ for 30 factory eggs till 13.5€ for bio eggs.

Haaaa loved that sheilla at the beginning, imagine her driving down Parramatta Rd in the morning , eggs $ 3. 50 a dozon up to $ 7 for the cage free.

Here's a bit of interesting information for ya Allan.. anything from the river they don't call "seafood" in Lao. Even the fish from the river...nope, not seafood lol Seafood to the Lao people comes from the sea, not river. So all the seafood is imported from Thailand or Vietnam....and yes, we do buy local fish and things from the river also.

I bet adding crispy pork to your sandwich would be delicious!

In the past 10 yrs been to Laos more than 10 times. Street food always have me food poisoning so I stop visiting Laos now Thanks for enjoyable video. 🙏🙏

French bread sandwiches. A hangover from colonial days, who ever said that nothing good came from colonization? The architecture far nicer than Thai also.Thailand should really have been colonized too, but the British and the French couldn't decide who would take it, so in the end they just left it as a buffer-zone between British Burma, and French Indochina.It's ironic that the Thais are so 'proud' of never having been colonized, but what it came down to was just a small matter of convenience among the two major empire builders in the region.

When I was in Laos I was told by the American managing our accomodation that sleeping with a Laotian woman as an unmarried couple is against the law in Laos. I see that as a socialist country opposing sex tourism and sexual exploitation, not racism. I have been with my Thai partner for 7 years. We wondered if the law extended to Thais with foreign men. We had no problems at all with Laotian people or authorities. If it is true it may be important for men considering finding a Laotian wife.

Hi Bob.. No, i don't think it extends to anyone else, only Lao citizens. I think it's a great law and custom for that exact reason you mentioned. Also, i think you will find that even most of the sex workers in Laos are not Lao, but Vietnamese and Chinese, so the law does not apply to them. Yes, i have addressed it in older videos, but will be addressing it again soon as i met a couple just recently who had been caught...

The only risk in Lao women marrying a farang or guava is that they(Farangs) are very fond of divorce. Getting divorced is a trendy fashion in the West. But in Lao it is a stigma. Even if I go for second marriage, I'll go for a virgin.

I was born there and they class me as farlang.

The government's stand point, it's illegal for a foreigner to have a relationship with a Lao. Todd would probably attest , it's a long process for a foreigner to marry a Lao, and costly.

You left out a key word there Jurgen..... 'Illegal to have an "unmarried" relationship with a Lao', and yes, there are a lot of hoops to jump through. I had never heard of an "Engagement Certificate" before lol

@tyjghjghhh I have always thought this was one of the smartest laws a 3rd world country could have in place for the exact reasons you have pointed out. I'm a huge fan of this law. The law does not prevent anybody from coming here and genuinely getting to know people or striking up a relationship, but it does prevent the country from becoming a sex tourist destination flooded with whore mongers and sleazy expats. Those sandwiches are ban mi sandwiches, originally a Vietnamese sandwich, that’s been adopted and is all over the world now. There’s shops here in America that’s just a ban mi shop, like 15-20 different types of those sandwiches are on the menu and that’s all they sell, that’s how popular they are here.

I can't speak for all but from what i have experienced with them, it is all in the past. No animosity towards foreigners. They have gone on with their lives. Lao has a very young demographic and most Lao people weren't born when the war happened.

@@NowinLao Lucky you didn't marry a half Lao woman that was also half Filipina. In the Philippines they eat balut. Balut has an embryo inside the egg even some Filipinas won't eat the head inside the egg.
