When I read disaster, I think maybe the thing blew up and its shrapnel wounded a couple people. And then it says in the description that it's just an "epic fail", which it really isn't, either, because the thing runs after all, at least for some time. Which shows how reliable these things are, you can even get home from the field if the machine is in desparate need of a major overhaul and wouldn't want to work any more...

I think this model was the one that had in the crankshaft almost 2 kg of pure gold. The units that had it were sent to Chile. This happened back then at the end of WW2

It's german language in the vid, and germany judging from the accent (also where these things were built and most sold)

A quick question from the USA, where does it get the compression of the fresh air to blow it into the combustion chamber after exhaust. I don't see any kind of supercharger or a way to use the crankcase to compress like on small 2 strokes. Oh I ran across a drawing that shows it apparently does use the crankcase for initial compression.

The thing that most confuses people with this engine is it is a 2 stroke, so they look for fuel and air through the crankcase. They forget it's a 'semi' diesel, so fuel is injected to the combustion area and ignited by compression and the hot bulb. So the crankcase is only for air.

OK thanks for the help. I can see the diesel part for injection of the fuel, I just wasn't positive where the air came through, it is through the crankcase compression. I suppose the crankcase doesn't have a bunch of oil flying about as that would carryover into the combustion and it would run without injection. So, I suppose they have a way to lubricate without having oil fly around.

It has a Reed valve in the car crankcase for air

It's one of the craziest things ever invented. Really weird. Somehow, it seems like it would belong in a children's book.

Ich komme vom Land, ich sah als Kind noch die Lanz bolldogg Traktoren. Mit glühkopfzündung. Die Bauern hatten wenn sie hatten meist den 25 ps Igen. Die Gemeinde einen 45 ps igen. Mit vorne nen Schneepflug dran. Unglaublich. Heute. Dass 45 ps genügten. Aber die Leistung war erstaunlich. Mit Schneeketten. Zäh. Der bolldogg bohrte sich in schneewechten. Bis er stecken blieb. Dann war Schaufeln gefragt. Für mich als Kind erstaunlich und faszinierend. Sonst sah ich doch nur Pferde. Lg.ff.

Calling it a fuel injection pump is being charitable, it's a pretty archaic thing. Most of the time you just have to blow out the two check ball seats and clean the 2 ball bearings and away they go.

I waited for the advertised disaster. None was forthcoming.

Das sind ja echt son paar Spezis ^^ Und den Auspuff und den Kühler könnten sie auch mal reparieren, will ja nicht wissen, was bei dem armen Lanz noch alles undicht ist ^^

Wenn die Pumpe Probleme hätte, würde die Maschine ab 9:00 nicht so gut laufen. Da wird einfach zu viel Kraftstoff manuell eingespritzt...

It’s a “hot bulb” engine. Part of the combustion chamber protrudes and is deliberately uncooled. In use it stays hot and provides a reliable surface to ignite fuel, but to start it you need to get it hot with a blowlamp. It’s a system that pre-dates electric glowplugs.

Its part of the combustion, because this tractor's engine is hot bulb 2 stroke, and one big piston.

The neighbours surely had their fun. Hope that nobody called the police. I am a Lanz fan, so I would not have called.

It most likely got a Bullgear about 20 inches round off the clutch housing on the right side that he is hand cranking from

Fuel reserve level if maintained that will ease the starting problems I presume well that is the owners know it better.

armer bulldog wir haben selber einen 45 ps eilbulldog aber und den heizen wir 20 minuten an höchstens 5 mal einspritzen und dann richtig 3 mal hin und her drehen und dann richtig mit schmackes angeschmissen. Springt immer beim 1 mal an c:

To get enough heat in the engine en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hot_bulb_engine After starting the residual heat of the combustion is enough to keep the hot bulb hot enough

Der schöne Lanz.... wen ich das sehe kann ich nur mit den Kopf schüttel und noch ein schluck aus mein Feierabend Bier nehmen sry ich hab 4 stück aufn hof die tip top laufen aber wieso wieso pumpt ihr den voll mit Diesel... und der Kopf ist auch undicht Hallo ? der hat keine verdichtung... *heul* der tut mir total leit ich hab 3 mit HolzGas und 1 mit Diesel und die laufen besser als der kümmert euch mal drum! dieses schöne schmuckstück...

You spend ages trying to get it started then the expert arrives with his red oily rag and it goes straight away then more blokes arrive and twiddle things and it goes like a bomb! Disappointing it was not a steering wheel starter however?

The pump plunger was stuck. Dont think they did anything other than get lucky as its behind the clutch.

der Motor is total fertig erstmal is die Pumpe im Eimer und dazu kommt noch, dass er keine Kompression aufbauen kann.. der Glühkopf is undichte und das Ding läuft wien Sack Nüsse.. der wird auch keine Leistung mehr haben

Wenn man soetwas nicht kann sollte man die Finger davon lassen 1. Man macht den Bulldog kaputt 2. Ist es gefährlich für einen Wir haben 3 Eilbulldogs einen 55ps einen 45er und 25er, dazu haben wir noch einen 45er bauernschlepper

Pulsating engine smoke out of the hotbulb.. Not good at all, even I as a noob can see that. The hotbulb should be airtight.

Anybody else think letting the child stand so close to the fire box, or whatever it is called, probably with fuel oil not far away from it, while trying to start this thing, was not a wise thing? It, especially, looked like it might have a leak, or two. Not knowing the exact design of it, I wouldn't want to stand there, myself.

Its a glowbulb engine, part of it is uncooled and needs to be hot for it to run If the cylinder isnt broken and the child familiar enough with the machine to not touch the hot (or moving) parts (pretty simple to learn) it should be fine
