what i find hilarious about all he anti lang lang people is that, no matter how hard they try to bash him on youtube, he is still world famous and loved by many. and not only that, he is a fantastic pianist. why even bother, then?

I was half-expecting Lang Lang to butcher the piece. Little did I know that I would listen to the sweetest rendition of Träumerei I've ever heard.

Pablo Agreed. His interpretation for this piece is indeed a bit exaggerated (and I’m not talking about his visual expressions), but this is the most emotionally beautiful rendition I have ever heard.

Words fail me. I've played this since since age ten -- and very well too I must add --, but the sheer BEAUTY of Lang Lang's tone, his palpable SINCERITY, deep UNDERSTANDING, and the utter SERENITY his idyllic conception brought tears to my eyes, as I realized -- as though for the first time -- how wonderful the soul of Robert Schumann really is.

Many pianists can play this piece quite well because it is not technically demanding. Lang Lang has taken his liberty to play more slowly than many others, I don't see anything wrong with that. To me, this rendition is very good, I like it!

Lang Lang realmente me hace llorar...esa entrega al ejecutar a todos los grandes músicos, con esa sencillez que le caracteriza, me dice qué es un alma grande...me hace muy Félix el escucharlo. Besitos.

Lang Lang plays beautifully. It is best not to see him, just listen. He does have a personal view of each piece and may be quite different of the tradition in many instances, but HE IS an artist. Remember: insults only backfire to the profferer

whether you like it or not, it's just a different interpretation of the song. It's a form of art and he's just looked at the song from another angle. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean its rubbish... He's a world renowned pianist for a reason...

Absolutely! Just close the eyes and listen to all these fine nuances, although the sound of the video itself is by far not the best. I do not like many of his interpretations of well known pieces, but this version of Träumerei is absolutely stunning!

C'mon everyone. I absolutely adore Horowitz, and personally prefer his over lang lang here. But this guy also creates his own rendition, everyone has different childhood memory. BTW, if you just scroll down, you can still listen to the piano without having to see his facial expression (which in my case helps in listening).

Langlang’s interpretation of Schumann Traumerei is sweet and full of mother’s love just like a cradlesong because he is still a younger and his mom is healthy. Horowitz’s interpretation was sad and full of missing of mom because he was old.

Tökéletes példája a Schumann-darab félreértésének, félremagyarázásának. Kizárólag koncert-ráadásként fogyasztható ebben a formájában. Olyasféle, mint a Szent Korona futószalagon készült sárgaréz alapú abroncs-keresztpántos és csiszolt sörösüvegcserép berakásos kópiái.

Listen carefully to Horowitz version, any of them, and you will spot the key differences: A steady pulse. And no milking of the music (with unmarked crescendos or diminuendos, or exaggerated ritards, as in the last five bars). He makes this a pop song.

Dream of the Red Chamberlain Just as Wagner’s ‘Treulich geführt’ is better known as ‘Here comes the bride’ in the English-speaking world, Schumann’s Träumerei, originally intended as a scene of childhood, is best known in Russia as the wordless hymn to WW2 victims. Elsewhere, it is played in funerals as a mournful reflective piece. After all, Träumerei, which means day dreaming, does sound a little like Trauma (trauma) or Trauer (grief). Lang Lang, the bad boy of classical music, played this music in his trade-mark wayward manner, distorting both tempo and dynamics. The application of Hollywood schmaltz to this nursery song would surely make Robert Schumann turn in his grave. Yet, I would defend to the death his right to play it his way despite my disapproval. In China, disrespect to the March of the Volunteers, such as not standing up straight and solemnly, is punishable by imprisonment. I don’t know if there is a similar law in Russia against desecration of Schumann’s Träumerei; perhaps such a law is needed to protect the feelings of the Russian people. Adding insult to injury is his red jacket, traditionally reserved for weddings and birthdays.

Too slow and affected, Horowitz is the definitive gold standard for this but obviously overall he is in a different league to Bang Bang so it's not surprising. However, also coming close to perfection of this lovely piece is the version by Valentina Lisitsa.
