I'm sorry but that 4x12 is awesome. I know Lee and Pete don't get it and that they haven't ever fallen in love with a digital rig over the real thing but having that much power is incredible especially with the editor. Probably wasting breath trying to get people who don’t use digital rigs live to see that side of it. Kemper profile every tone from the studio, stereo or mono with timecode aligning tones with the track and being able to push that air on stage is just so awesome. Frees up space in the speakers for vocals too.

Fully agreed. Pete seemed to think that the main reason people go digital is to shrink their rig. I'm sure this is true for some people like touring musicians who are trying to minimize their touring costs, many others embrace digital setups for a variety of different reasons. Personally, I appreciate both analog and digital rigs. I have some lovely amps, but I also have a Fractal and a Tonex pedal to fill in all the tonal gaps in my collection and streamline recording processes. Previously I used my digital setup exclusively for recording, but after recently picking up a Fender FR12 I've found myself engaging in jam sessions using my Axe FX / Tonex setup as frequently as I do with my genuine amps. For me the FR12 was the missing link in making digital setups as fun to play through as real amps. The only downside with the FR12 is that it's a great device for home use, but it starts struggling volume wise when in the same room as a loud drummer. Would I love a full range 4x12 cab someday? Absofreakinglutely! A good modeler/profiler with a 4x12 FR cab seems like the perfect live setup to me. Album quality guitar tones being sent direct to the front of house while still being able to push air on stage and get feedback etc. That's just dreamy.

The point there was that Lee said you can't use digital rigs through a 4x12 before this cab came around, to which Pete initially responded with logic because Lee had no idea what he was talking about. But this seems like a decent addition to the frfr cab world. You'll never need that much power, but it's nice to see an frfr cab in a 4x12 style.

As a guy who plays lots of slow doomy riffs but records and writes completely digital it's awesome i can just grab a 4x12 and be loud instead of having to worry about buying a power amp and a orange cab. I can just buy the laney at the same price

I totally get the 4X12 with a modeler. Certain situations - especially if a great PA is not available. Different strokes for different folks.
tony iommi made Laney famous. he used 6 100 watt heads and 6 4x12 cabinets played on 10 with black sabbath. i saw them in person and the sound was unreal loud

I've always loved Laney's gear. Had a couple of bass amps from them and a guitar amp. Solid as a rock.
Glad they're becoming more modern. Loving my Ironheart 60W and Leadtop! Hoping they make another tube amp in a smaller package
I enjoyed this demo it's unfortunate the store reps were making the rep not be able to explain everything in proper detail not very professional men get with the program there products are ahead of the competition very impressive products by Laney!

I recently picked up one of the ironheart foundry loudpedals to use as a power amp with my hx stomp (and other) pedals with a 1x12. Amazing bit of kit and super flexible. Wish more people knew what it can do as it’s so flexible
I remember when Rob and Lee demod the Iron heart 60w. It must of been over 10 years ago now. An amazing sounding amp with that american fizz with british thump.

Probably equivalent to a 100 watt tube head in loudness. All you'll ever need for sure - unless your last name in Malmsteen.
Guthrie is loving his according to Al Joseph and it sounds amazing. I went on a search after the Aristocrat's gig in Glasgow last year.
Stupid good stuff for the price. Pair these with good speakers and modern pickups. The IRTs can sound british heavy and modern (both).
I absolutely love that 4X12! Wish I had an excuse to buy and use one! Would be the first cab I would buy if I won the lottery. I know Lee and Pete would hate that. But It could be all you need!
I've seen Guthrie Govan live and can confirm that Laney is doing an outstanding job. The 4x12 might seem like over kill, but I'd love to hear one live to judge for myself. :)
What's the weight of the 4x12? Does it still require 2 people to carry?
I'm tempted by the 30w combo. I think 60W is maybe too much for small clubs that I play. But 30w combo may be perfect. Paul from the studio rats was blown away by the Laney Ironhearts.
Lee Wrathe knows his stuff, clear and concise presentation despite some "tough" questioning , well-handled! 😅
Any ideas if Laney LFR's products are gonna be released in a stereo configuration at some point?
A tube preamp pedal (with one or two tube) is missing like a heavy rock - metal amp for home : 1w max
How about a Leadtop, Dualtop, Loudpedal based on the Supergroup? The Ironheart is great, but you have other amps
Would love a 3 or 4 independent channel Iron Heart 120W head.
Super Cub is awesome!
Come on guys we know you don't like digital stuff...
Ide love a plug-in of their vh and gl amps. Or even a preamp or distortion pedal of those amps.
That loudpedal needs a better power plug though, it's connection is very loose.
Have they covered Hi Watt?
Let the man speak! There are tons of modern guitarists using digital rigs! Guitarist Jan Ozveren (Charlie Puth) uses a Fractal rig and spent like a year programming! Times have changed and digital rigs are here to stay. Bravo to Laney! I’m a dinosaur and like my pedals but I can appreciate Eventide and Headrush pedal boards. I own a couple Hiwatt Dr-103s and an early 70s Marshall Superlead, but when I record I’m using whatever’s convenient and you can’t polish a turd! I will always love my analog stuff, but I’m intrigued with new technology that is tasteful. It’s all fun, but don’t be rude Peter! Kill them with kindness! I love the channel and would love to see a review of the Laney and Fractal stuff.
Nice one, very professional and well put together, the presenter was uninterrupted and Pete's reactions were very genuine!
I can't wait to have a nice stereo 2x12

I feel that, man. I have 2 ordered.
If I lived in the middle of nowhere with no neighbours maybe the 4x12 monster would be ok but in the real world probably not.
I wished they played through the 30watt combo. Oh well.
No, Pete, the idea is if you want the air and/or if the PA system at the gig isn't good or powerful enough. If that's the case, you still have to turn your amp down.
Well fought, Mr. Lee. Those guys must have had a drink too much before making this video ;D
Stonehenge 😅 hello Cleveland!
@4:10 I agree with the Laney guy. I think Fractal should do a powered combo amp. If you plug your fractal into a house PA, you're at the mercy of the sound person and they can totally change your tone and you can't use them at home. I'd much rather have a 2x12 Fractal combo 400 watt with seperate footswitch and expression pedal included.
Probably shouldn't have been so confrontational and just let the man describe the products properly. Looked very unprofessional.

Standard Andertons.
I knew when they got to the 4x12 frfr cab that Pete would raise his hackles. I know he's all about the traditional gear and whatnot, but man, give it a rest. If you got guys like Devin Townsend and Guthrie Govan backing this, then you know it's a legitimate product with a legitimate use case. I'm sure they've put a lot of thought into why they'd would go this route rather than going with a tube amp and a traditional cabinet. With all due respect, it's kind of shitty to have such a smug attitude and act like the product is ridiculous, when this is a product that was never catered towards the traditional gear audience in the first place.

It is insane that Pete doesn't realize the point of a high-end digital units for a literal majority of users is range and consistency of tones. A Kemper or Fractal or Helix sounds like a Fender, or a Marshall, or a Mesa, or impossibly expensive options like a Dumble or a Trainwreck, or whatever you literally want. Even if you think it's only 95% of the way to the real deal, it's 95% of the way for all of them at once! Tons and tons of modern touring artists who value that versatility simply want something loud on stage.

Ironically, in many interviews Pete describes how he was touring in the past with Line 6 Pod, and how helpful it was for working/touring musician
Enough already Pete, let him speak! Generally love him but happens in their studio vids too, sometimes less is more but Pete just doesn't know when to stop. Dare I say it, you could take a leaf out of KDH's book, who has done some great videos at Namm simply by letting the exhibitors speak.
People carry cabs. Is the amps what people don't want to carry no more. The processor+power amp+ cab is a very standard combination this days for Hybrid set up.
Love my new Laney L5 head, but not interested in the digital stuff, shame it took so much of the interview
Yeah: next year you can have a second usb stick with Ki /AI that plays Guitar like you, maybe if you get sick and have to stay Home…
If only Pete would let Lee explain why...
made in gods territory !! black country and proud !! yam a gud un ar Lee !!!
Comparing a 4x12 guitar cab with a 4x12 FRFR speaker cab is pointless, two totally different types of sounds Pete...
With all the IR pedals that do sound like the original amps, I don't understand why FRFR speakers aren't more common. Hopefully, that's the direction things are going. We've reached the point where lugging a giant refrigerator to a gig is silly.
And how much is that Godzilla going to cost? 2k maybe?

Normally love this channel but this is weird. Seem happy to see a British manufacturer with new exciting products then.. talk all over him, act bored and disinterested and show no enthusiasm for the fact Laney are trying to push equipment forward. Normally you guys are spot on....
This was probably the worst one you guys have done from NAMM this year for me. Let the guy explain the products rather than interrupting or starting a debate every 5 seconds.
FFS Pete SHUSH! no point asking a question and then constantly talking over the answer.
“Tube amps are heavy and too big” “Let’s create modeling! It will be lightweight and go front of house” “Let’s create a monstrous cab so you can amplify your models of tube amps being played through cabinets” I’m sorry what 😂😂😂? I don’t get it
@matthewduncan9405
5 ай бұрын
While I’m being cheeky the counter is this: Players are moving to modelers and they are getting used to that workflow. Using that platform to design tone and write music around the functionality of modelers. While you could use 4 cable method sure - you can’t just change amp sounds patch to patch or song to song. Music like Devin Townsend/Haken/etc just have way too many amp tones to cover in a single tube head. If you are someone that already invested in digital platform you can either just get this -> or invest in tube head/cabinet and change your entire workflow around trying to incorporate that.
I had a Laney amp for years, an old metalcore 120, it's finally bit the dust through a bit of neglect, but if they still made them I'd buy a new one now. well made and so damn loud. their customer service is a waste of time though. and I gotta say it, Pete is seriously starting to look like beavis.
Pete seems to be getting a little too big for his britches. Unfortunately we've seen this before.
