    I love the bit from 1:30-2:00 where you touch on the time commitment, weather, etc. Have you ever thought of doing a video on the day-of details that lead you into a shoot? It would be a nice “bridge” between this Lofoten video and that excellent “what’s in the backpack” video.

    Nice job once again - The Xt4 looks like a great smaller camera with a cropped sensor. my usual rig is a D850 with my old D750 if I'm going to be on the street in NYC or other areas where my D850 would be too much. Andy, as always a good review with beautiful pictures.📸 I didn't know the NISI 9mm and found it interesting. As I already mentioned, I use Fuji 10-24mm WR, Viltrox 13mm. I'm almost leaving the 13mm Viltrox (wide angle) as main for sharpness. Andy, now I have my space/studio ready and I intend to buy a “Canon imagePROGRAF PRO-2100 Printer” to make some prints and sell my images. So I will prepare myself to participate in a Workshop with you. Leaving #Brazil, the cost is a little higher. Congratulations on the video and I really admire your work and for sharing your travels. I've been to the Lofoten last year and they don't disappoint indeed. If I have an advice, it's not to miss the Vesteralen islands. Less tourists, and some stunning landscapes there as well. This year I went to the Dolomites (that you visit often), and there however I was disappointed. It's just way too touristy, I feel a bit "cheated" by all the wild photographs you see of the area. Almost every car park you have to pay, there's cable cars everywhere, it just wasn't my thing. Luckily it was only part of my annual trip, not all of it, and I was able to go to the Stelvio area, and to Slovenia which were much much better.

    Andy - thank you for this video, beautiful photos! Planning to hike the Long Crossing from Delp to A-i-Lofoten village this summer. However, we will likely be there in early July so won't actually see the sunset and I'm worried that we won't get a good golden hour like you had / the light will be too harsh during the trek. Have you photographed the midnight sun itself, and any recommendations to make the most of the light if so?

  • @AndyMumford

    @AndyMumford

    Жыл бұрын

    You should get excellent golden hour...which will last for way more than an hour because you'll get the sun dipping towards the horizon and then rising up again. You should have about 4 or 5 hours of excellent light between around 10pm and 3am. Even in the middle of the day, the angle of the sun is lower, it won't be directly overhead.

    It's a pity you couldn't make it, the trip was really nice. I use the WR version of the 10-24, but optically the two versions are exactly the same. The Viltrox is sharper, but lacks the flexibility of the 10-24mm. I haven't compared it to the 8-16mm so I can't say. As for with the X-T5, I'm happy with the 10-24mm. Whether you should get the 8-16mm really depends on how important absolute detail is, and if carrying the 8-16mm, which is big, heavy, hard to use with filters and lacks the focal length flexibility of the 10-24mm is worth it. Images with the 10-24mm look great on the X-T5. Would the 8-16mm be better...absolutely, but how much better and how important that is really depends from person to person

  • @AndyMumford

    @AndyMumford

    Жыл бұрын

    If you only use it between 10 & 12 then yes, for sure the Viltrox is sharper, as well as having the faster aperture, but there's a big difference between 10mm and 13mm when it comes to framing, so you might miss the ultra wide feel you get with at 10mm

    What UL F-Stop pack is that you're using and what's your opinion on it? Currently trying to decide between the UL Packs F-Stop has available.

    It's the Kashmir. It's light, but if you have a long torso like me, it doesn't fit great. I use the Ajna most of the time.

    Love your work Andy🙂 How about posting on Vero app? (no square crop, can post higher res) I'm not using Instagram anymore, just dont like it.

    Thanks for the comment. Vero is indeed nice, but I really don't have time to spend time on another social media account, and at the end of the day, Instagram simply has a bigger reach for getting work out

    Seems like you could put a gradiated filter on there and bring up the shadows in the left bottom section. Would make for a more compelling image. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqyTqrGYYpuXZaw.html

    The shadows weren't a technical issue, I bracketed the shot (I no longer use grads as bracketing and blending is far better for capturing wider dynamic range) and so I had enough information in the brighter exposures to bring the shadows out. The problem is that it looks very unnatural to have areas of an image that are backlit and should be shadow brightened. Images with strong lighting should have shadows, to not have them looks wrong and removes depth from an image, as the tonal values are evened out. The issue here was compositionally, the shadow area was taking up a large part of the frame with empty space. To remove this from the image would have meant removing the sun star, or cropped off more at the bottom, which would have altered the balance by removing elements of the village in the islands. Brightening it would have just looked wrong as it has the sun directly behind it.

    I see that you have switched away from 10-24? Is it not sharp enough for you anymore or nightsky was a major part of this trip?

    Thanks for the comment. I haven't switched away from the 10-24mm, that's still my go to wide angle lens for the Fuji system, but on this trip I was given the Viltrox and NiSi to test out. I liked the Viltrox a lot (I put up a review earlier this year), but it only replaces the 10-24 if I know I'm going to be doing astro or aurora

    More thought could be put into the figure in the photo.Feels like an afterthought or not fully thought through. kzread.info/dash/bejne/gqyTqrGYYpuXZaw.html

    Not really. Including the figure in both images was fully thought out and included for the reasons I explained in the video.
