Sure he is loyal to mclaren but imo it’s not just that. He’s denied a red bull contract multiple times because no one wants to be driving against max. He’s had a history of destroying his team mates and therefore people’s perceptions of them. Kvyat, Albon, gasly, Ricciardo, and Perez are just the latest of his victims. He sends them into retirement almost. It’s a huge hit to their confidence. I don’t know if this is a factor but maybe lando doesn’t want to ruin his friendship with max by being his team mate as well.

@@VishnuRajam4x4 albon and gasly have had a pretty good rebound this year, especially albon showing his class with such a held back Williams car, they'll bounce back and probably riccardio too given his latest alphatauri performances

it's not that Lando is a really nice guy, it's the effect he has on the drivers around him, whenever he's in an interview with other drivers, they are all more relaxed and joking together.

@@hansolo2121 I'd disagree, most people find him standoffish which is why he's not universally liked, unless you are a member of the orange army. I like Max as a driver, much the same as I liked Michael Schumacher, but that is all I see them as. People preferred Dan Ric when they were racing, because Daniel is so likeable, Max didn't get this, but he was admired for his skill.

Thats why they won’t respect Lando on track. He gives you that childish vibe, someone you can bully easy and if you listen to his radio with his engineer he is very easy to irritate. Even his own team doesn’t give him the nr 1 position, even when Ricciardo was there. Characters says everything about the driver. Lando just wants to be friends with everyone, so he can get respected in a nice way, but Max/Lewis they get respected how they bully people on track.

Lando isn't friends with Hamilton. That doesn't mean they aren't friendly and it doesn't mean they hate each other. Why can't everyone accept that these drivers have more going on in their lives than whether a tiny percentage of fans think they're awful because they aren't BFFs?! Isn't it obvious that Lando is most friendly with teammates and drivers he came up through the lower categories with? It shouldn't take a genius to realise that Lando and Hamilton aren't close, but that's it. They know each other and they race each other. That's it.

It is a bit of a shock to face the reality of a 103xF1 GP VICTORIES 7xF1 GP WDC TITLES racer that is Sir Lewis Larbalestier Hamilton. He undoubtedly has enormous reserves of mental strength to recover from the 'official' debacle of 2021 Abu Dhabi and suddenly be saddled with an uncompetitive race car, after enjoying 8 long years of dominance with Mercedes AMG Petronas. His legendary status always makes it seem easy, when he's relentlessly clawing back his main competitor's advantage. He really is one of the greatest of his time, along with others of previous eras like Michael Schumacher, Nigel Mansell, Ayrton Senna, Alain Prost, Jim Clark, Juan Manuel Fangio etc. That's why he's only off a couple from also being the first and only 200xF1 GP PODIUM FINISHES . . . Truly an international racing superstar.

Hands down the future of F1 looks bright, Lando, Piastri, LeClerc, Verstappen and Russel are all so young and have what it takes to take titles and make history. Lando, Albon, Sainz….thing is Lewis fans who switch to a new driver are like Max fans who switch once Max leaves. Some of us F1 fans follow the sport not for the drivers but for the cars…and hence support the team irrespective of who they employ (spare a thought of us McLaren fans who had to suffer over the past few years, and us Williams fans who are still waiting to see a return to glory lol).

It's the drivers who make the sport for me, A car can be great but if you get a dud driver then no one ever knows. Just look at Aston Martin and how Alonso raised the cars standing for them when he joined and who says Alonso is still a top driver? you can hardly rate him vs Stroll can you.

The actual world champion, and his team has been plagued with terrible performance issues for so long that it's a miracle they are back in the top 5 teams, not every driver wins everything in their first years, nobody believes in the underdog until they win.

What? He clearly has the raw pace, he’s not reckless which shows he has the right maturity that young Leclerc and Verstappen didn’t have and George Russell still has a problem with, he can overtake as well as anyone at this point, and recently he’s shown he has the ability to manage tyres, brake and engine temp, which is shown by Piastri’s lacking in this regard. Throughout his career he’s always won the qualifying battle against his teammates, even Sainz when Lando was very young. Everything we’ve seen from Lando show he’s ready to compete for the top spot.

@@sibiyu67 not quite yet, but he inherited a team that was finetuned by the Michael. Besides, Merc were a proven entity in F1. When McLaren no longer was the de facto factoryteam for Merc, the only smart option was to join the Mercedes F1-team to keep his gloryrun going. Mercedes is a force of nature in this sport. They have almost as many victories as Ferrari when you add up the Mclaren and the brawnyear. Don't be an idiot. Those who don't want to aknowledge that are just simple Lewis fanboys. Not dissing on Lewis, just saying that it wasn't that Merc was absolutely nowhere. At the end of the day the facilities and the amount of money you are willing and able to throw at it are what matters.

Also Mclaren was team that put Lewis gloriously in F1, so there was big respect and emotional connection between them. It was not so easy and obvious decision to go away from them.

"He should win becaus he's in a Mercedes" I wonder if Lando shares the same sentiments about his buddy Verstappen in that barnstorming RB. an F1 result depends 95% on the other 5% is a mix of driver skill, race-craft, luck and good team strategy - ie, the real difference is made by the unseen engineering geniuses behind the scenes. And for the fanboys who dont agree with this, consider a thought experiment where you put a Max, Lewis or even a prime Prost, Senna or Michael Schumacher in nothing but a midfield car like an Alpine, see how many championships they win xD For the marketing though, the sport has to revolve around the personalities that the public actually sees, ie the drivers - this makes sense in the PR and advertising perspective.

I lost respect for Lando when he disrespected his race engineer and crashed out after that.

Lando wears his emotions on his face so when he lies you can see through him. He claims he respects 44 and 14 but when 44 was racially abused by someone working very close to him he was crickets on the matter! His sentiments around the Silver Arrows have always been clearly conveyed by him. So there's no doubt in my mind that Lando does not like 44. And that's his right. He shouldn't be forced to. Nope. Lando published an insta story abt reading some racist comments mentioning Lewis and underlined how unacceptable it was. He's just shy around such a guy like Lewis, who when being imo the ultimate goat of f1, is sometimes a bit socially awkward.

So the takeaway is that he is too nice and pretty weak mentally. The mindset of Senna, Schuey was I'm going in as the best and the others should fear me. If you want to be The Man to hell with whoever the opposition is, you have to be ruthless. Verstappen has the same outlook as Senna/Schuey and it is why he is successful. Norris needs to toughen up, there is no need to be friends with any of the other drivers.

Imagine being this stupid to think the McLaren is on the same level as the redbull. They're not even the 2nd best car. Don't see merc drivers fighting Max either 😂 the only win any other team got this year was coz of the RB malfunction.

It was still a bitchy thing to say regarding Lewis should win in that car when he had the fastest, that wasn’t even taken and twisted up out of context so that was such a bad example of that. You e still got to be able to drive it and win races , something that is proven between max and checo. Max drives his car 100 x better than checo. If it wasn’t max in that car and wasn’t Lewis or someone else that good and went of Perez results we’d never realise how good that red bull is
