The stewards found that Max was "mostly" to blame for the contact. This still leaves Lando partially to blame. Don't forget that Lando had a time penalty for track limit violations that wasn't served. Some of Lando's dive bomb passes left a lot to be desired.

Racing used to be a sport. About winning. Fairly. Not crashing into each other. Since the FIA failed to rein in Senna's dangerous moves, and then allowed Schumacher to get away with it as well, Verstappen has come along and believes he can crash his way to success, or at least barge his way to wins. Well, FUCK HIM! I hope he gets his just reward and ends up in a wall at speed to knock the stuffing out of him! Racing is dangerous. Verstappen makes it more so.

That is what is called racing. If you are not allowed to defend you position than what is the point of racing. You can replace the driver by robots and program the exact line. Luckily these drives are human beings with emotions and passion, which makes it interesting for us to watch.

Red Bull should have been notified Lando had a 5sec penalty and told Max so he would let Lando pass but still win the race in the end. Then it would be all on Lando for going off the track limits too many times. I'm a huge fan of both and hope they work it out. It was fun to watch as a fan though until the tire punctures.

I agree. Both were unlucky with that collision, but they were racing very close an that's how it should be. It shows just how passionate Lando and Max are. The reactions they gave during and directly after the race are the result of adrenaline and emotional. They will sort it out, because that is what friends do. Really looking forward to more close races between the two. Go Lando, Go Max.

Lando was drivnig in the true spirit of Senna "If you no longer go for the gap...". But the gap was outside the track, and he got a penalty for that. Lando knew this and new he had to pass Max so he could create a bigger then five sec gap. Both Max and Lando knew this, so there was no way in hell that Verstappen would give up that easily to Lando. To they both had to drive on the edge, and over it. Verstappen was clear about it and said that RBR failed as a team, and that put him in that Position. Taking the blame to himself and the team. But Lando was kinda child-ish about it and put their friendship at stake. I blame it on DRS. Certainly at a track like Austria.

I'm a huge Lando fan, but I did sense a little desperation in moments. Same as with Max in his defense. They both made questionable moves, it just so happens one of Max's moves cost them both the race. Could have just as easily been Lando doing so on one of his dives inside. People have to remember, its much easier to judge from the other side of a monitor or tv screen. These guys are doing something most of us could never handle in these cars. It was exciting for sure, and yea technically it was Max's move that ended things, but as a Lando fan I don't hate the guy for it. Its exciting for the sport, and for the fans. Another side note, though the fan rivalry can be fun and passionate, it still should remain respectful the same as everyone is griping about with the drivers and how they drive. Doesn't really make sense to be unhinged and disrespectful towards others in a debate about which driver was more "unhinged and disrespectful" in the race ya know. Looking forward to next weekend for sure. Hope to see more tight battles there as well.

Good assessment and very easy to criticize either or both from this side of a TV set. Lando will keep pushing and it is incredible to see what McLaren have achieved in the last two years. Lando's time will come and within this season.

Nice comments. Both were at fault. Difficult for Max being in front so I defy anyone to look into the rear view mirror when cornering. Great to see such close racing - nothing much between them. Max would've won if it hadn't been for the really bad pit stop

@@larrytasker7043 It looked to me as though Max was taking a different line into 3 due to Lando's previous dive-bombing, he definitely squeezed Lando before and after the impact. He also likely knew Lando was on a 5-sec penalty as well, so more motivation to put the squeeze on. Still think it's good hard driving, just unfortunate it cost Lando any points

F1s biggest problem is the fans. 1. We complain when a driver defends his position. 2. We complain when a driver doesn't defend his position. This is racing, you fight for a better position and fight to keep it- racing isn't about respect or giving other drivers a win because "they deserve it" or "he has to many already" its purely about winning. Acting like that isn't what it is, shows the percentage of f1 fans that are enthusiasts and causal fans. A real enthusiasts would never say "fernado was too aggressive fighting Schumacher" or "Senna's throttle method in turns are unfair" in 20 years this will be looked back on and seen as max being one of the only true drivers left on the track along side Hamilton, Fernando, and surprisingly George. Not bowing down, and defending their positions like a real driver.

I can completely agree with you. I would also add that Formula One has far too many darn rules. Almost all of them should be done away with. Especially now because Formula One finally has a financial cap for the teams. Teams aren’t spending hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars a season in and attempt just to stay Competitive or relevant. I hope you understand what I’m trying to write down here. I’m not saying I want Formula One to turn into a stock car series where they can bump and smash each other. I just want Formula One to race wheel to wheel & the drivers don’t have to worry about if I wreck the team will go under & I’ll be out of a job, lol. Nowadays F1’s just a fast parade or really fast train. I feel that the FIA has taken the racing out of Formula One racing. Now that the cap is in place teams can afford to build more cars & hopefully take more risks. I mean, One or two wrecks of season isn’t gonna financially ruin your team forever or get you out of the sport. This was just my opinion.

There use to be qoutes like "I knew he'd slow down because he has a wife and kids at home" now I feel its "he slowed down because he doesn't want to damage the car" or "He slowed down because of rules" The last death in f1 was in 2015, and though Im not saying "I want death" Im more or less using it to show that f1s safety in their cars has gotten so good, that if there was anytime for wheel to wheel racing. It is now, considering that the halo has protected so many drivers from serious injuries. Thanks for the insight I appreciate it. I started thinking maybe I was the only one in my line of thinkin.

Funniest thing to me was that had Lando just be patient, he would've gotten better overtaking opportunities later on since there where still laps left. max was 100% unable to maintain this under that much pressure. Lando taking more and more risks is what would've ultimately ended in something like this anyways. To all the Max critics out there, if this would have been Lewis Hamilton for example, do you think Lando would've gotten past him like this too? Or perhaps Alonso? I genuinely don't think so.

I thought Lando forced it when he didn't have to . Max had scrubbed tires strapped on with 19 laps to go. They were losing grip by the lap. Norris had brand new Mediums, also installed with 19 Laps to go. Max had lost 8th gear and the McLaren has DRS. So why try an impossible rookie overtake? Because being fast is only part of the art of racing.

Except Lando had to get past as quickly as he could. Lando had already been forced outside track limits (=penalty) by Max, and he then had to put at least 5-seconds on Max, with only 7-laps remaining. There was reason for Lando to push don't you think?

Lando did some dive bombs and went off track more than 3 times. Max also changed the car position during breaking and pushed Lando off track a few times. The battle wasn't fair from both sides.

Verstappen is a dirty driver. We've seen it in his battles with Leclerc at junior level, Raikkonnen and others, and most famously, Hamilton. Lando is the latest victim. Well said Mr Stella of Mclaren.

I can't see this as Lando's fault. He established position on the outside. It was Max who initiated contact.

This stupid rule about giving a driver room on the outside of the corner has to go. Once upon a time (not that long ago), you could force the driver on the outside to go wide, limiting their ability to overtake... If Lando had of got up the inside of Max, I'm sure he would have 'shut the door' on Max. Then again, when you look at the Sprint race, Lando doesn't know how to shut the door....

Having watched F1 since the 80's, the drivers back then knew not to attempt to drive around the outside as they also knew that they would be escorted off the track... The only exception was when a car making the pass on the outside had a decent run on the car they are passing, like the way Piastri drove around the outside of Lando during the Sprint race...

That corner is a bit weird, like an overtake mirage, if u defend there will be incidence like this, seriously the idea the car on the outside should get space so the inside driver needs to break harder and compromise their exit is silly imho ! Dive bombing is legal as long as you do it right (I know he locked up and went really deep once, regardless) however moving under braking is NEVER legal. It’s ducking absurd the stewards did fucking nothing, and then gave Verstappen a slap on the wrist. Absolute fucking shit show.

Max is fully responsable for this. I would take away his points from this race. Check the telemetri. I think he moved to take Norris out!

I'm a Max fan he was out of order doing a hammy move

I'm a fan of Max and Lando. I want them fighting. Huge cars and DRS is the bigger problem. Bring back old school.

This is 100% on Lando, not even sure why this is open for debate. Lets look at the facts, Max down shifted then applied breaks. Based on the rules he didn't have any infractions, but the FIA is inconsistent when applying rules that have gray areas. What did happen though is Lando Norris was extremely aggressive bordering on being reckless. Three different times he dive bombed into the corner on a line that he didn't even have the position to take the lead from. Furthermore one of those attempts if not for Max being the superior driver would have caused both of them to wreck out. If you need your memory jogged that was when Land flew passed max and didn't break until he was well passed the apex of the turn. The FIA should investigate Norris for extreme reckless behavior. That said the FIA won't because Norris has become the only competition for Max and they wont upset the fans by slapping him down for driving like an amateur today. Then you have him blowing Max's tire off the rim which cost him big it wasn't just a light tap again he wanted first place so bad he recklessly came into contact with Max and failed to break early enough to avoid contact. If anyone thought Max or any other driver was going to just yield a position to someone driving as reckless as Lando was today you're not being objective. Up to today Norris was my number 2 favorite driver but seeing how he nearly caused multi contacts, one major wreck, a final contact that cost him a for sure 2nd place I hope he learns his lesson. I though up to today that Hamilton was the only one that complained constantly when they didn't get there way.

Lando and McLaren want the media to be all over Max as they make accusations of Max being a dirty driver and dangerous on track, which is what the British media does. Max was struck with two points on his super license today yet Lando was given none. This is absolute horseshit. I’m so disgusted with Lando.

Yes Lando, in my opinion, was wreckless WRONG, he ran into Max from behind. There was more than enoùgh space, to go to the left, without touching!!!

If the regulations cannot stop MV from driving like this maybe all the other drivers should adopt the same driving style. Happy to see that LN did not back off and crash with MV. Next time MV will think twice before defending P1 place. At the end the one that has more to loss should back off.

There is no rule against "moving under braking". There is, however, a rule against changing your line to block after the car behind you has committed to an overtake attempt. You can anticipate, but you can't react, and Max moved to block after the send.... THREE TIMES! But Lando shouldn't act surprised. Max is good in an unbeatable car, surprise surprise, but when it's a genuine contest he will crash anyone who tries to beat him, and that's what he's ALWAYS done. He's a dirty bastard like his father.

Typical Max, prefer to have an accident than give away a place. After Brazil 2021, he thinks he is allowed to do whatever he wants. If u want to debate me, watch the footage in Brazil and then get back to me. No penalty whatsoever, unbelievable. About time he got a penalty for running people off the track.

Lando. Max was moving to the left ever so slightly to open up the corner. Which every driver does. And he was even kind enough to leave plenty of space for Lando. Lando could have moved a car width to the left and still be within track limits. Look at where they touched. Max was already steering to the right, moving away from Lando. Lando had tons of space and there was no need whatsoever for Lando to steer into Max's car. This was an intentional move from a frustrated Lando. His earlier divebombs failed and he felt he had the faster car but couldn't get past Max because of his defending. But, it's Max. Hard driving, "arrogant" Max. And it's friendly, cute Lando. So of course Max gets the penalty. And since F1 is mostly controlled by the British, everybody is quick to blame Max. It's disgusting. The FIA is also at fault. They intentionally waited a full 5 laps(!!!) before handing Lando his penalty for track limits. Personally I think they did this because they *wanted* these two to fight it out. They knew full well that as soon as they handed Lando the 5 second penalty, this fight would be over. They wanted this to happen. Only after they had touched and their race/fight was over, did they hand Lando his penalty. They could have done that at least 4 laps earlier. And we all know what's going to happen next week at Silverstone. All those "formula 1 fans" will be booing Max. Simply because there's not a single British news outlet that's willing to look with a critical eye to Lando's part in all this. Again, it's disgusting.

Rules are rules and MV broke them. The braking zone was clearly down the left as clearly seen by the amount of rubber laid down there. MV moved to the right to block LN, then shifted left when he realised what LN was planning. The rules clearly state MV should have left at least one cars width, which he clearly didn't, thus causing the coming together.

Probably due to frustration. But hey, again, it's Max and the other one is a Brit so not surprising they ruled against Max.

@RealJohnDoe - you're so wrong ! The rules are there to ensure we get nice racing, with close but fair battles and overtakes. Wheel banging is totally ok, but not when one driver drives his opponents off track, moves under braking, not giving one car width etc etc With one driver driving dirty as soon as someone gets close is not nice or fun to watch. I'm not putting all the blame on Verstappen. It's actually manly FIA's fault we can't get hard but fair racing anymore since Verstappen joined F1. If FIA had done its job they would've penalized Verstappen already in 2021 - when Masi let Verstappen getting away with almost anything he'll continue driving dirty.

There is no contact allowed in ANY Formula racing. Even wheel-banging is in 95% an infringment by only one driver. The rulebook was layed out correct - not harsh. Max learned that is better for his championship to run/crash out opponents when he is leading the board. If you just define that as hard racing you better switch to Nas(ty)car…

@@acke26that’s all very cool, but don’t forget Hamilton one upped Max on dirty driving in Silverstone with Bottas taking him out the next race as well. Max drove an insane season with some overtakes that were on the edge. Brazil and Jeddah were clearly a step too far and he was rightly penalised for those, but in Abu Dhabi for example he legitimately overtook Lewis in the first lap, after which he just cut the corner and kept his position. 2021 was crazy with both guys going over the limits on multiple occasions. That started in Bahrain already where Lewis took 35 track limits without getting a penalty and Max overtaking him outside of the track

He couldn't make his move stick so he dtifted out three car widths outside the track and at the same time forced Hamilton off track ! I'm a former racing dtiver myself, (BMW cup 500 hp, slicks. I've also been involved in other cathegoties as racing director etc) Never ever in the history of F1 have we seen one driver getting away with these kinds of dirty driving. Why do you think Masi got fired? Officially the representatives gor FIA couldn't speak their minds. 2021 was a scandal never seen before. Why do uou think the mechanics from a couple of teams in a joint letter to the FIA protested against the outcome of the 2021 wc (Ted Kravitz reported about this) Did you know I was a RedBull fan once when Vettel and Riccardo were at the top of their game. Don't be fooled by what you think is "hard racing" from Max. When there are mutual respect between the drivers it's the we'll see the most thrilling and nice racing. For the sake of F1 I hope the judges will start applying the rules properly. Please note that I acknowledge Max's talent, but he can win without these ugly moves of his.

Norris gained the advantage but gave the position back straight away. The other two incidents was Verstapans fault. The one that took norris out was clearly max 's fault. He did not leave a cars width.

Vershtoppen or vercrashem has driven like this since he was a little boy in go carts. He should have been banned many times. Only if he gets a very hard penalty like a ban from a couple of races will he stop this extremely dangerous practice on corners.

@@MonikavanderWesthuizen-nw4jm Max is the dirtiest driver on the track and a big bully to boot. He has no fear but he does not care about putting any driver into great danger. He is the only driver to ever have a rule made by the FIA to stop his dangerous tactics. A rule that Sadly last week he chose to brake and caused a collision. Don’t go by favouritism or self opinion dear. Always go by the facts. How come,somebody in a much inferior car keeps catching him causing Max to brake the,rules. ie’ absolutely no changing course when under braking for corners. And that young lady is the very rule the made to stop him from causing many, many to crash. His car is fantastic. This is shown by when car two is set up correctly and has the same work done on it, he,keeps up with Max without any problem. The only problem he,ever has is the exact same problem any other driver has had that drove for RB is that they are not allowed to overtake Max, EVER. If they do overtake him, Horner, Josh and Max start their usual crybaby antics. Facet dear not fiction through favouritism. If Max wear to give up his dirty and dangerous antics, he would then possibly be the greatest driver ever.

Now, when Max finally gets some competition, he can't allow it, so the dark shadow of the REAL Max emerges for all to see. Just like he was when he battled Lewis. He's a dirty driver and still won't admit his mistakes. He fits the classic definition of a psychopath. Don't believe me? Look it up.

Lando caused the crash - nobody passes on the outside in that corner. Even still, Max gave him plenty of space. Lando was desperate to overtake and took an unnecessary risk. Even if Lando was able to get around Max, he'd be way off the racing line and would once again hit track limits and have to give up the place anyway. It is 100% Lando's fault - he was looking for a fight.

@@BladeRunner031 Funny that you can't see that Lando nearly sent both of them to the hospital with his reckless driving. The kid is lucky that Max was good enough to stop him from hitting him dead center causing a reck instead Lando blew passed because he was so aggresive that he forgot to break. I used to have respect for Lando improving as a driver today he looked like a man child that was upset that he couldn't get a clean pass. Time to send him back to Monaco for a few hundred laps of training.

Lando didn't want to pass in that corner. he wanted to go deep on the outside so that he could do the switcheroo and get better traction and with DRS overtake Max going into turn 4.

Max doing as usual "I'm bad, don't fight with me". Lando "I'm not afraid of you, mate". Good racing, not seen in a while. As of who did the mistake in this flower power era of F1, well, i have to say Max. By current rules.

Ignoring track limits and preforming kamikaze dive bombs is not clean racing. Blaming Max for trashing your car while you drive too fast to the pit while a broken rear tire is smashing into the back of your car, is kinda silly too. Rookie norris should get a grid penalty for that like Perez got earlier. Furthermore, FIA waited way too long with norris B&W flag penalty.

Lando &Andrea, it’s called hard racing, it’s not only to blême Max you too,

Norris is in the baby years of F1, now he's getting at the top he needs to be more hard headed to keep his cool. Max is already up there and doesn't give two hoots and can take it, he was just like Norris in his earlier years. Both will be back to fighting at Silverstone.

Max is the type of guy who will park on top of Lando's car and laugh it off. Lando wants to fight but won't face the possible negative consequenses! It could have been in reversal, Max out, Lando first. Or.....none finnish and we pay our respects at both their funerals when they catch fire like we seen before. Choose wisely. Choose carefully. Most Investors dont care for your lifes. They just want to see u go faster, harder to be the best of the best and make them more money.
