    People burbling about the 'game being finished' aren't paying attention. The goals of the Star Citizen are 'full persistence' and 'Server side container streaming'. Once those are in place, then the game platform is finished. But the business model for CIG is continuous content creation funded by new gamers and continuous purchases of insurance, flair and UEC. Then there is Squadron 42, which will be releases with 'Chapter One'. SQ42 will be continuously funding by new gamers and the purchase of new Chapters.

    @@Bland-79 Them running out of money is the last thing you need to worry about. CIGs current development model is fit to how much finds they have. A company with 500 people developing a game isn't going to get halfway and suddenly realise they ran out of money. They have budgets for that shit. And that's not even mentioning that people are still pumping money in by the buttload for ships. In November SC sold more ship and made more money than any month yet. The game has set records for how much it's funded, so no... There not gonna run out of money that's ridiculous.

    starting to get the vibe no one here has seen space engineers. Matching two ships speeds isn't some godly programming advancement. It's an idea. There's nothing modern about it. :/ In SE the graphics may not be triple A, and the Docking procedures may not be that of a flight model game- but the core physics remains the same. Entity A collides with Entity B, Match both entities to singular velocity dependent on which ship is docking and being docked upon. Vis Versa with taking off. In space engineers its called Relative Inertia Dampening.

  • @CeesaX

    @CeesaX

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@piranhapants7290 I get what you're saying. I probably wasn't clear enough in my original comment, but I'm not impressed that someone was able to create code to make that happen. What I was impressed with is that the code was written to already account for this scenario. I'm not sure if you've had experience with writing code, but generally a programmer will have an idea in mind for expected behaviors of certain objects, and then he creates code to handle those. If a situation arises that the programmer didn't envision, unexpected effects may occur. I was merely stating that it was impressive to me that the code was robust enough to deal with this edge case, as an object on one physics grid (the 890) leaves it and transitions to a new physics grid. It impressed me because the velocity of the 300i when in the 890's physics grid is zero relative to the grid, but nonzero relative to the universe. I could easily see a programming error in which the velocity of the 300i could only be changed by engines, and thus on transition from the 890's grid to the universe's grid its velocity stays at a very low number, and not jumping up to the value of the 890.

    @@JBlNN the code is not super complicated Make a Targetting UI to "select" an entity being the other ship wait for key input of "relative inertial dampening" and literally use the already coded in velocity parameters for the ship to decelerate to the same speed, making the relative speed 0. Many games CAN do this, but it's not really a relevant mechanic, or even thought of concept. I.E. completely separate game, NMS. NMS is a coop game, but you can't do this. You could have relative inertial dampening to make cool formation flight etc.... but the reality is, this serves no purpose in the game mechanics. A weird example of a game that does this... GTA V: Online Motorcycle formations. Never said SC and SE are in the same realm. But SE does this mechanic just aswell in a more complex dynamic. Having to make code that runs a formula for weight, drag and G. SC uses prefab ships that do not change without upgrades, where they are hard coded. If you add a thruster mid flight in SE, it will handle the change in dV perfectly.

But, we have already seen some of the SSOCS in the Citizencon gameplay, so it definitely is smoothing matters considerably. The thing is the tick rate of the servers right now are extremely low, but SSOCS allows that tick rate to get up to the 30 per second they have been aiming for. That will help frames some where network speed has been a limiter, but the biggest gains will be in people not hitching and jumping around all over the place as the server will be able to keep up with actual client side movement.

Point is, you shouldn't need to break immersion by switching to a 3rd person camera to adjust your ship. You should be able to this all in first person with the correct use of VDUs or some form of spatial awareness/visual proximity indicator built into your ship's dashboard.

    This genuinely is one of the most amazing feets of a game engine. To allow this level of interactivity is just amazing. What would be even more so is to simulate the extra weight on the performance of the 890j, granted it would be a small handling difference for the size of the craft but pulling 4g with an extra heavy nose would be more difficult no?

    A more logical way I see of doing this, based on all I learned of the PIA of hours and hours of aerial refueling in DCS is flying in formation on the side of the 890 and once you are at the pad's height and in a controlled manner flying at the same speed, moving onto the pad with a slight bank. Mainly to be able to see the pad during the approach, because the way you did it you had to move onto 3rd person a few times to gain some situational awareness.

    Yes and no... It is restricted by a no-fly zone on this planet. You can land on most of the rooftops, and the are parts around the planet that you can land at and walk around the city. The newest planet (microTech, it's not a city-planet like this one) has a single city and it has spaces all around the city that you can land at. Other planets that do no have no-fly zones are fully explorable.

    Unfortunately not a whole lot, it is pretty much blocked off too. You can land on most rooftops, I hope they go back and improve on it one day. The newest planet microTech doesn't have restricted areas and you can land around/in the city - but it's not a whole planet-city like Arccorp.
