Land Rover Discovery 4 Oil & Filter change. 2.7 TDV6 3.0 SDV6 L319 LR3 LR4 Range Rover Sport L320

Ойын-сауық

TOOL LIST & TIPS BELOW. In this video I show you how to change the engine oil and oil filter on my Land Rover Discovery 4 Diesel. I'm not a qualified mechanic but I enjoy looking after my cars and these videos are to show that you can maintain a Land Rover on your driveway with basic tools and minimal cost.
As always, if you have any questions or comments please leave them below and I'll get back to you asap.
This is the SAME process for the: Discovery 3, LR3 2.7 TDV6 3.0TDV6, 3.0 SDV6 and the Range Rover Sport L320 with the same Diesel engines.
PARTS:
The manufacturer recommends: Castrol EDGE Engine Oil - 5W-30, A3/B4. You'll need 5.9 litres for a service.
LR013148 - Cartridge Filter and O ring.
1013938 - Sump plug and washer.
TOOLS:
13mm, 15mm and 32mm SINGLE HEX socket and wrench or spanner. To remove the Steel engine protective plate (Bash plate) and Sump plug.
Flathead screwdriver or similar to pop out the filter and O-ring seal.
Oil extractor pump (mine is a 9ltr)
TIPS:
Don't forget some rags for cleaning drips and spills.
Best to have the vehicle on level ground. Cold engine. Start engine for 1 minute to churn the oil and turn off.
I'd left this too long and there was only 4.7 litres of oil in the engine! 🤠 Should be done every 6 months!

Hey mate, where the sump plug is, you don’t need to do that bolt. The black cable to the right of it comes off by pressimg a button on it and drains out.

hey mate great video , just got D4 myself , mine has a dip stick though and can't see anywhere to connect the oil pump to suck oil out , is it maybe cause mine is the base model ?

Hi, so sorry for the late reply, we're on holiday at the moment. If it has a Dip-stick, it's either a different engine (not 2.7, 3.0 TDV6 or SDV6) or it's a Disco 3. I'm not fully across all engines and variants in territories. Best of luck mate

Did you top up the last bit of oil ? Those filter caps can be over tightened I always use a torque wrench on them. Great vehicles but reliability can be an issue ( ask me I know ) mine is MY2016 on 25,200 miles my front belts to be changed on Friday, think I may leave the rear belt to later.

Hi @blackvulcan100, I didn't top the rest up actually. Just keeping my eye on it closely over the next couple of months. I was late changing this time and was surprised to only extract 4.7ltrs. Probably will have to do a top up at some point. You're right about the FIlter caps but I don't have a torque wrench. I think i'll invest in one soon. Cheers mate and thanks for the support!

Yeh on such a small car / engine bay, seems an odd design choice to me! Thanks for watching mate.
