Land Rover Discovery 3 / LR3 - 1000 Euro repair fixed for 100 Euro? Possible?
#Landrover #LandroverDiscovery #LR3
Every Land Rover Discovery 3 TDV6 has a rear high-pressure fuel pump belt. Most dealer repair shops take the body of the frame in order to service the belt. In reality anybody can do it. We show you in this video how much fun this repair can be. Watch it to the end - it get´s funny.
Thanks!

Another reason I just sold my disco and bought and old Toyota 😂 still love your videos guy’s. The only thing I miss about my Land Rover is the community... the Land Rover wave 👋 its like a group of people who have shared a traumatic experience, you have a tight bond! 😂
When designers come up with stuff like this, where service items are so difficult to reach, they should be prevented from ever working as designers again. Preferably by throwing them off a roof into a wood-chipper. Even worse, the designers of the LR3 should have been forced to own one for 20 years and carry out ALL the servicing and maintenance themselves. Maybe that'd be too sadistic though?
My tip, Always cut the belt gradually until it slowly releases the belt tension, do not release the belt tension by undoing the tensioner bolt, because as you get to the end of the thread, the spring tension can ping it off and break the thread lug off the cylinder head, best to learn from the mistakes of others.......😉 Great videos as always... .....thanks
You’re both such a great team together always bouncing off each other. Well done on such a difficult task, regards from down here in Australia 👍
I am impressed! Changing a timing belt using a camera needs a lot of patience and knowledge. I tip my hat to you Christian!

Great video as always, thank you! You can save time by not undoing any ECU and TCM connectors. There is enough space when you remove the coolant pipe that runs across the engine, and the bracket that holds the wiring loom at the back of the engine. You can then pull the wiring loom towards you which creates enough space to get the belt cover out and replace the belt. I always insert the new belt tensioner first, easier to locate it correctly in its insert without the extra tension or presence of the belt. The new belt simply will slide over the tensioner when lifting it over the wheel.

Great video guys. Love the banter, puts a smile on my face.
Well Christian/Vera - I did the job yesterday (under a gloriously sunny warm Corsican sky unlike poor you!) and although my method varied slightly from yours, it was 100% successful, not even a bing or a bing and no spurious messages on startup! My 2 specialists refused (because it's too much trouble no doubt); & the LR stealer in Vannes had asked €2500 (Timing belt at same time with body off). The only other vid on YT showing the job is terrible and unedited. Your vid gave me a logical progression and saved me from working 'in the dark' which is often a confidence-breaker. Now it's done I'd say it's fiddly but not difficult. PS The coating on the toothed side of the belt is I believe fibreglass not Teflon. I had the same issue as you (break in the coating, which implies it's 'normal') but my belt is a Dayco (as was the installed belt). NB neither belt had a date or rotation arrow. Keep up the good work, brilliant channel ( the regularity is so important to subscribers as you know) and a major contribution to the Discovery community.

Fantastic, you are so brave! Had mine changed at 100,000 miles by the same method using a specialist- LR wanted to do body off. I always end up bleeding too! Well done.

Before disconnecting plugs where possible label and draw a couple of arrows facing each other. Use 'AAA' on both sides of first plug/socket, 'BBB' on the next etc. If needed use paper labels tied on with string etc. Yes it takes a few seconds but will give a huge boost in confidence that all plugs are replaced properly and with the right orientation. Often it is obvious but as you get tired a little help goes a long way.
Great video 👍🇬🇧

I recently had this very belt changed on mine as part of a 144K (mile) service. Whilst I'm fairly sure they didn't lift the body, they did at least have the advantage of having much of the engine out of the way already to change the front belts, oil pump and water pump. I can see why it took several days.

Thanks for another great video well done When I did this job on my D3 it didn’t appear to have as much space as you did to access the belt and struggled to do the job with my big hands One tip though it’s recommended to cut the old belt to get it off as unscrewing the bolt in the tensioner when it gets to the last couple of threads the tension still present can tear the last couple of threads out and you may have to take the body off to re-tap the thread Regards

We have had no problems with the glow plugs on either our Land Rovers yet. (We had our Freelander for almost 150000 km , and the LR3 for about 100000km ). As for the spark plugs, we only have diesel engines so I am not sure about the cost of replacing spark plugs on a petrol engine.🙋♀️ Vera

I love your videos & I don't even own a D3, but Land Rover made the D3 far too complicated for me to work on. I like a 4x4 I can spend time driving rather than more time spent fixing it, that's why I drive an old 02 Discovery 2 & only give it a routine service once a year, & if anything falls off & it still drives then that part probably wasn't needed in the first place. Things went badly wrong for Land Rover after Germany sold what was once a great 4x4 off. If I had the chance to buy a new 4x4, then I'd buy anything but a modern LR. Have you ever considered doing a "retro" series of videos on a D2 or a real Defender?
@Vera_and_Christian
2 жыл бұрын
Well, we would have to buy one first. Since we don't really make any money with KZread, our content is mainly based on what we own at the time. Buying a car just for KZread content, we would need a lot more subscribers and, most importantly, viewers. But if that time comes, we would love to get a Defender. A Discovery 2 is most likely not an option because of emission standards here in Germany. We cannot drive one as a daily driver here in our area unfortunately. 👍🙋♀️ Vera
