Great video ... excelent vehicle. I still own one from 1989 with 19j 2.5 TD engine with 161 000 miles. Used mostly for wildlife filming in the mountains. Thanks for sharing.

My 19-year-old brother and I love the Defender. My brother likes the station wagon. I like the double cab pickup truck version (we call it a bakkie, pronounced bucky, in South Africa) as you can have, let's say for example, yourself and your family in the cab and all your stuff in the back under the canopy and when it comes to engines I especially like the 300tdi and the 2.4TDCI engines in the double cab pickup truck version of the defender.

Do I get Brownie Points for saying the route is between Haslingfield and Barrington in Cambridgeshire? This Land Rover climbs the hill a lot better than my old school bus did!!!!

Well you can buy one that's 25 years old or older, because then it's considered a "classic car" and doesn't need to be within regulations like that.

What do you think about the gear box noise slightly noticable at 2:10? It changes a bit when you engage 5th gear....

It's a long time ago so I can't remember whether it came from the gearbox or transfer box, but it never changed in the 70,000 miles I drove the vehicle so it can't be that serious. Anyway, all proper Land Rovers have transmission whine :-)

Unfortunately, your keeping your hand on the gear box for a while, I heard it causes problems to the gear shaft because your putting loads of pressure on to it causing it to be broken

That's a myth, as far as I can tell. I've rebuilt a few gearboxes and looking at how they work, you could cause some wear to the ends of the selector forks where they engage with the synchro hubs if you pushed or pulled the gearstick really, really hard for a long time with it running in gear, but resting your hand on it won't do any damage at all. You'd have to try really hard to cause any damage. Vehicles I've driven like this show no wear to those parts after tens of thousands of miles.

@@finbarrdolan I have had my TD4 since1997 ,now with 132 Km on the clock. Without fail it will use 10 litres per 100 Km , which is just about 28mpg., so you are spot on.!
