John Williams information:
John Towner Williams (born February 8, 1932) is an American composer, conductor, and pianist. In a career spanning over six decades, Williams has composed some of the most popular and recognizable film scores in cinematic history, including Jaws, the Star Wars series, Superman, the Indiana Jones series, E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial, Jurassic Park, and the first three Harry Potter films. Williams has been associated with director Steven Spielberg since 1974, composing music for the majority of his feature films.[
Other notable works by Williams include theme music for the Olympic Games, NBC Sunday Night Football, the 2011 film The Adventures of Tintin, the television series Lost in Space and Land of the Giants and the original theme song to Gilligan's Island. Williams has composed numerous classical concerti and other works for orchestral ensembles and solo instruments; he served as the Boston Pops' principal conductor from 1980 to 1993 and is now the orchestra's laureate conductor.
Williams has won five Academy Awards, four Golden Globe Awards, seven British Academy Film Awards and 22 Grammy Awards. With 50 Academy Award nominations, Williams is the second most-nominated individual, after Walt Disney. In 2005, the American Film Institute selected Williams' score to 1977's Star Wars as the greatest American film score of all time. Williams was inducted into the Hollywood Bowl's Hall of Fame in 2000 and was a recipient of the Kennedy Center Honors in 2004. Williams will receive the 2016 AFI Life Achievement Award. Williams composed the score for eight movies in the Top 20 highest grossing films at the U.S. box office (adjusted for inflation).

Did a good job with the themes of the Time Tunnel and Lost in Space.
Man, loved some of the older themes from tv shows back in the day, something that a lot of modern shows just don't have.
I love this intro, it's 100% better than 99% of the Sci Fi intros on television in the 21st Century.

I remember watch the Gery Anderson show U.F.O. back in the 70's as a young boy. Loved it. I kept thinking they need more purple as it is my favorite color. You may remember the purple wigs the women wore.

Gerry Allen made one huge mistake: He had a chance to hire Robert Culp as the star (eventually, it was Martin Landau). Culp wanted the part; but he also wanted to be a writer, producer and director, and he would have been an excellent choice. Not only did Anderson mess up by NOT picking Culp...he later hired (ugh) Fred Freiberger as a producer! Irwin Allen was a mixed bag. As Billy Mumy put it, "Irwin Allen was a great producer, when he had to get things started; but keeping it going was another thing." (Or something like that.) Irwin Allen's biggest mistake is that he tried to do too much, and took quantity over quality. He was in such a hurry to get an episode in the can, he didn't care if it was poorly-written, rushed and unpolished. His shows always had potential, but suffered from bad writing.

Still one of the best American TV series of all time. Great theme.

I watched it on re-reruns on Italian Tv in the 1980's and they used to transmit them on Rete 4 every Sunday afternoon at about 2:00 pm. I loved this show and always believed the story telling was very good.
One GENIUS,JOHN WILLIAMS.
They never go "Fee Fi Fo Fum",only in the Story!!!!!
Kurt Kasnar played the character of Fitzugh in Land Of The Giants but Jonathan Harris had the ''special guest star'' billling as character Dr Zachary Smith in Lost in Space every week in the credits. He was the very first and only actor of the LIS cast members to also be one of the regular cast member of the show with that title throughout it's entire 3 year run!
John Williams is a genius!! Along with Lalo Schfrin who did Mission Impossible, Morton Stevens who composed Hawaii Five O, John Parker who composed Cannon, Chips. Just 🔥 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Now that is one hell of an opening theme tune!
Valerie Scott (Deanna Lund) Was The Pearl White Of Primetime Tv. (Her Boots Were Very Simliar To The Ones' Pearl White Wore Herself) RIP Deanna.
I used to watch this a young lad in 1980s. This is so iconic. ❤
And I bet when Irwin Allen first heard this, he went out of his mind; #MINDBLOWN! 💥💥
I was totally blown away when I first heard and saw this theme!

AWESOME intro !!!!
I just LOVED the first series.....and I remember this theme so vividly..it really excited me...and every time I wasn't disappointed.....until the 2nd series came along and something went wrong....
John Williams; what a giant of TV soundtrack music: Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel, Land of the Giants and Gilligans Island!
What a man!
I like the second season's version better, just as I prefer the theme they introduced with the third season of Lost in Space. John William's early resume with these themes is just amazing. Such fond memories of watching these sci-fi shows as a boy.
Luv this show and i'm 24
This show was incredibly popular in Stalinist Romania, of all places, where the government somehow managed to miss its obvious anti-totalitarian bias.
@RonaldCharlesEpstein
4 жыл бұрын
The fact that the "Land of the Giants" resembled America in 1968 may have prompted the Romanian government to approve that program. They may have viewed the S.I.D. as a stand-in for the F.B.I.

It's a music track, not a song, as no-one is singing...but I take your point ;-)
Listening to this reminds me of the summer I spent watching this entire series on the Sci-Fi Channel early in the morning.
This is the theme song I remember, although my favorite episode is probably the one with Jonathan Harris as the master of time or the episode where Dan has to save everyone from Steve, who's under the influence of a mushroom.
Amazing ,love this on Sundays

A trilha sonora é um espetáculo e os efeitos especias são muito bons pela época.
Irwin Allen had a thing about people in lost space ships getting in trouble with giants. If you doubt this, on Lost in Space they were menaced by a one eyed giant!

There's also a buck-toothed giant in Voyage To The Bottom of The Sea....the episode named 'Leviathan'.

Better of the two themes imo
Irwin Allen was taken with giants because he used that theme in Lost in Space and in Voyage to The Bottom of the Sea.

LOST IN SPACE and VOYAGE TO THE BOTTOM OF THE SEA preceded LAND OF THE GIANTS.
One of several Irwin Allen "futuristic" shows from the 1960s/70s. The others were Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, Time Tunnel, and Lost in Space. All of them had dynamic theme songs.

Hoyt Curtin was a master of cartoon music and did stuff like The Jetsons, The Flintstones, SuperFriends, Battle of the Planets, almost all of the Hanna-Barbera shows, and the original 1964 Jonny Quest show which is still considered to be one of the most amazing pieces of music ever done for a cartoon show...
Before John Williams was the "secret sauce" of filmmakers George Lucas and Steven Spielberg, he gave a bit of integrity to Irwin Allen's shows.
The big hand always scared me.
Oh I hear some Lost in Space in that piece. Also Johnny Williams.
@roberthaworth8991
4 жыл бұрын
The Time Tunnel, also. I guess Allen told Williams to "take off" on the successful LiS theme a bit, but not stray to far for brand identity's sake. Also b/c all those loud bass notes, with tingling in the background, is recognizable from two rooms away in the house.
back in the day i watched it
Seems like a lot of Irwin Allen's work has a lot of brass and drums. You can almost pick them out just by that.
I purchased the entire 1st season on Amazon recently... The series, and theme, has a pleasing epic quality about it. .... The later 1960's series, though they can be at times repetitive and predictable in terms of plot elements, and had on average poorer special effects, generally make hash out of modern TV series.
Legend
I can see where The Chase quiz got its logo from now.
They might end up in Land Of The Giants, as all three tv shows were running at the same time, well almost! lol
