Lancia Stratos HF Group 4 Loud V6 Sound

The video is about one of the most iconic rally car of the '70s: the Lancia Stratos. Lancia presented the Lancia Stratos HF prototype at the 1971 Turin Motor Show, a year after the announcement of the Stratos Zero concept car. This car was powered by a mid-mounted Dino Ferrari V6 engine producing 192 hp. The production of the 500 cars required for homologation in Group 4 started in 1973 and it was finally homologated to race in the 1974 World Rally championship. The Stratos rally car was moved by the same Ferrari V6 engine but a bit powered: 280 hp at 7800 rpm and 275 Nm of torque at 6000 rpm. Only 50 Stratos rally cars were built and it won the 1974, 1975 and 1976 championship titles in the hands of Sandro Munari and Björn Waldegård.

The Alitalia, "green, white and red" livery suits this strikingly characterized car the best, IMO. Fond memories of my youth, watching rally races as an 80's teenager.

@Scouts hangout my mistake. You're right, the Stratos was at the end of its career in the early 80s, but I could still see a few races featuring one of them. But by then, they were being relegated to second best by the likes of the Quattro, Renault Turbo II, or 205 Turbo.

Certainly, among group B and rally cars, a unique one, for sure: with its so "extreme" design (extreme even today, let alone when we saw it the first few times...!) But the thing that makes it really unique is its "voice": , like a Porsche, or an Audi S1, even without watching at the video, is... unmistakable

I'm listening to this with Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro 250ohms with a Blackgate maxed Pimeta amp, I had the idea to put some environmental extension filters on the sound with my X-Fi. Wow. My brain is now a Stratos V6. AWESOME captures Bozzy!

It was in the group 4 era which predated the group b era
I never understood why they didnt evolve on this concept for their rally cars. 880kg for 150 hp, in a atmospheric 2.4 V6. I'm pretty sure there was allot to gain on ths engine. A rather simple design. Easy to maintain or to work on. Light and manageable.... To me it was the perfect rally car. And I'm sure in massproduction the ultimate ,weekend, fun car at a reasonable price.

Stratos era, ed è qualcosa di sconvolgente, la volontà di un uomo che ha voluto un progetto innovativo che rompesse con le concezioni del passato. Rappresenta il segno distintivo di Bertone, la volontà di sbalordire, di esplorare nuove concezioni come il cuneo deportante incidente di Colin Chapman e della Lotus 56, applicato ad un prototipo da rally che anticipa i leggendari gruppi B. Particolari unici ed irripetibili: Il parabrezza parabolico per aggredire i tornanti, il taglio alieno dei finestrini, i fari incassati, le portiere senza cornice, la griglia a scaglie. Il motore V6 di Alfredino Ferrari applicato in posizione centrale, trasversale, posteriore messo a punto da Tonti in quel compatto cuneo spaziale, il più bel segno di Marcello Gandini sotto la guida attenta di Bertone.Stratosferica. I enjoyed this car so much... 10 hours... kopplung kaput. I couldnt drive in a straight line and had to walk everytime... too scared all the curvers is ooh. zhey say turn left and you have to turn right always turning in the opposite side of the curve never brake until oh fuck shit it was amazing. NEVER AGAIN! The new concept is better and few years and again ferrari engine... New BMW diesel is late... Christian Bangleass says sorry it is difficult 3000bar intakes of diesel alle pumpen gehen zu scheisse. FIAT ooh
