ULTRAVIOLENCE is the darkest Lana´s album, is psychedelic, dense, the most complicated state of her mind. It takes time to process but was my favorite album until NORMAN FUCKING ROCKWELL! came out (her last work). As a fan since 2012 I have to say NFR! is her masterpiece. I can't wait for you to hear her clear and honest voice on that album, the production is brilliant. You´ll be able to see her mind evolution ¨out of the black, into the blue¨.

I saw Lana at a festival last summer, she played Pretty when i cry as she and her dancers were lying down on the stage, the sun was setting, the audience was dead quiet. It was an unreal experience, one of my top moments in life.

Honeymoon is her slowest album, so go in with an open mind. There are lots of growers and some songs take some time to fully sink into. It’s more about the experience, it’s very lush and noir so think of it as a vibe. Edit: I would also like to add that she called it a “vanity project,” which is true. She’s mostly flexing her vocals and they’re the best in her entire discography with the most cinematic instrumentals.

I once put shades of cool on a work playlist. When it was playing a coworker sent a message in the group chat saying “what are we listening to??” Like a bad thing. Some people just don’t get Lana and I DONT GET THEM. It’s pure unfiltered brilliance. I remember the first time I heard that song I was sent off in a rocket. See you in the next orbit my friend.

Well for me, Lana Del Rey has her own kind of genre. She makes art like these that paints you a story, takes you into her world, gets you high while feeling raw and real at the same time. She makes you feel and remember things you didn't know that you have. She's timeless and gets better and better everytime. Many would say that she's a queen, I think she's a goddess.

I agree, a lovely songwriter, and a lovely voice. She will have two books next spring published by Simon & Schuster. So they are happening!

Fun fact about West Coast: before Dan Auerbach came into the picture, Lana went through multiple producers trying to find the right one who saw what she saw for the track, but (foolishly) no one was into it because of how it's a faster tempo in the verses and slows down in the chorus, which was basically unheard of. But she knew that's what she wanted and she wasn't going to change her (ever-so-powerful) mind, so then she found Dan Auerbach who took a listen and jumped on it. They then proceeded to work together on the whole album. They had their ups and downs, as one might expect when two such forces come together, having disagreements here and there, but in the end they were pretty proud of the result, unsurprisingly. I am so into your vibe and way of approaching music, I so relate, please keep it up! I cannot wait for your reaction to Honeymoon! 😊

And remember Interscope did not want this album released, they wanted it scrapped and both lana and Dan agreed to send it to Adeles producer and he sent it back telling Interscope to not change a thing. A week later West Coast was released and we were blessed.

When she is saying shes a "sad girl" shes saying that she is pathetic and stupid, not literally sad. Our queen always having a deeper meaning to everything.......the way she serves each and every single day

I’m a bit nervous to when Honeymoon finally comes as people tend to have mixed reactions when it comes to it, people usually listen to Lana in chronological order which forms her brand in your head. If you look at Honeymoon by itself like how you would read a random book it’s an amazing experience. Like I find that I put honeymoon album on in such rare special occasions when it feels right, like the vibe and everything when it’s just perfect and it takes me to places.

Honeymoon is definitely her most unique album, it has such an interesting blend of sounds - trap and jazz - and that does not always appeal to some people. Personally, it's not my favourite album of hers but it does, however, have one of my favourite songs made by her: Terrence Loves You. It's also the album which I think she improved lyrically and production wise

Agreed! Honeymoon is my favorite LDR album but it took me months listening to it to fall in love! It’s one of those albums you have to hear at night while closing your eyes and just enjoy the whole experience

I already liked summertime sadness and born to die, but what really made me listen to her more was a line in Highly Suspect's "Serotonia" - "I'll get stoned all night with Lana". This album carries so much memory and nostalgia for me. When it came out, my best friend and I decided we were going to listen to the whole thing from start to finish. We were smoking weed and drinking wine in her room, candles lit, just vibing so hard and dancing to it all lmfao. You might think you can't dance to this bc it's slow, but you really can. That’s basically my Friday and Sunday nights, except I dance around to Lana while drinking wine and having dinner. Then I run a warm bubble bath with candles, put Lana on and unwind with my wine. I also live in a condo so my neighbors hear my music pretty well. They check in if on Sunday they don’t hear Lana.

"Black Beauty" was supposed to be one of the headlining tracks on Ultraviolence but it got leaked months before the album was set to come (she has had hundreds of old songs leak as well). I know that had to be really crushing for her, but I'm still really glad she put it out as a bonus track!

Florida Kilos is one of my favorite song of hers. It encapsulates that reflective and melancholy feeling you sometimes get at dawn in a warm summer after staying up all night. Lyrically it's not on the same height as her other music but its a great vibe.

And I think she is glamorizing it, and that's one of the best points. When you've had a taugh childhood, or you'vre created a distorted view on reality and family you see abuse as a way of facing it, as flowers fullfiling a landscape of unhope and chaos. But she knows what she's doing, if she couln't see that concept from the outside she couldnt have written. That's why it's interesting what she does, she found the good middle point between been a persona but also using the memories she actually lived. Its a complex concept but thats what I feel

@@j.e.s.v.s I've wondered if she experieced emotional abuse or neglect in her childhood. Like, a teen doesn't become a damn alcoholic out of fucking nowhere. I say it as someone that experienced chronic child abuse growing up. Maybe I just see it everywhere when it isn't there. Oh well.

I've listened to this record since it first came out and the fact that I still get goosebumps when I listen to it..

He hit me (and it felt like a kiss) is a song by The Crystals produced by Phil Spector in the '60s. People gave Lana so much shit for that line when she was just borrowing from that song to talk about this awful thing, not romanticizing it but haters gonna hate lol. Can't wait for the Honeymoon reaction!!!

wait til you get to honeymoon... a lot of people say it’s her worst but i personally think it’s some of her best work i believe the ultraviolence lyrics are a metaphor for her alcoholicism as a teenager, put into the form of an abusive relationship. the abusive guy jim is the alcohol jim beam. also please react to the music video for ride!! it has a spoken word monologue that is mind blowing!

Jon, first the Mac series now Lana. My two favorite artists. And this is by far my favorite album of all time. I remember so vividly Lana dropping West Coast and Shades of Cool as singles. I remember the day this album dropped. And all of your reactions mimicked mine then. And somehow, unlike any other album I’ve ever loved, I still have the same reactions listening to it today. It’s truly one of those works that I can put on and fully transcend back into the exact memories that made up those first 100 listens. Truly a masterpiece: instrumentally, lyrically, spiritually.

Ultraviolence gets me through the tough parts of life... this will forever be my favorite album ever created and imo one of Lana’s best pieces

West coast’s tempo change gives me goosebumps

It's amazing to know that her label refused to release this album thinking it wouldn't perform well because of how different it was. It wasn't until they played it to Adele's producer - who thought the album was amazing - that the label agreed to release it. Ironically Ultraviolence sold much more than expected and debuted at no 1 on the Billboard 200 with more than 180k albums sold in the US in its first week.

Fun fact about The Other Woman: the melody and as originally sang by Nina Simone it suggests the poetic voice takes the place of the wife while in Lana Del Rey’s version under the context of the album and the changes she makes on the melody and her own voice, she reimagines the song in the place of the mistress. I always loved this song because it shows Lana’s ability to convey a completely different meaning without even changing the original lyrics

Black beauty makes me think of my mom and dads relationship. Dad was an addict with clinical depression but my mom is a little hippie ray of sunshine but after 18 years with him her light really dimmed. My dad loved her until the day he died but could never reach her because of his issues and they ended up divorced. She remarried he did not.

Lana said in an interview she wont sing (he hit me and it felt like a kiss anymore, she said: "I don’t like it. I don’t. I don’t sing it. I sing 'Ultraviolence' but I don’t sing that line anymore. Having someone be aggressive in a relationship was the only relationship I knew."
