Lana Del Rey's Stirring Speech At Variety Hitmakers: I’m Grateful for All the Criticism, I Get a Lot

Ойын-сауық

Lana Del Rey was presented with the Decade Award during the Dec. 4 Variety Hitmakers brunch held in Los Angeles. After being presented the award by her “Wildflower Wildfire” collaborator Mike Dean, she thanked many of the people who helped her on her journey.
“My managers helped me up the stairs,” she said. “I still haven’t mastered the art of walking in heels. I’m super grateful for them, Ben [Mawson] and Ed [Millett], and for this award. I’m really glad that they’re here with me. They picked me out of the bar scenes, lounge singer scenes that I was singing in for about eight years before I met them. They got me out of a deal I made for 11 records for nine grand while I was working at a restaurant and living in a trailer park. Ben did that in one hour and then the next day he flew me to London and let me live with him. In a year, I wrote ‘Video Games,’ and I was ready to make good records, I was ready to make a lot of records.”

Being a fan is different from “giving birth” to an artist the way you implied Lana did towards Adele when you were agreeing with the other comment. Adele has had her own sound and style (which she honestly hasn’t deviated from at all) that she created before Lana came out. Even now they both don’t sound that similar beyond them singing “sad” songs. (Florence + the Machine would be a better comparison). Lana is good at what she does, but you can’t say she’s shaped Adele when chronologically that’s false

There is something I will always love about Lana. Her music got me out of a really bad place, I don't know where I would be without her, literally. I just resonated with her. Her singing is so intimate, it's like she sings just for you. When she sings to you she heals you. She makes you feel pretty, loved, accepted. She makes you dream and takes you into a different world. All while being true to herself. So vulnerable, yet so fierce. Like her music or not, you can't deny the influence she has on other people and the way she connects with the listener. I know that it sounds weird, I can't say this about any other celebrity and I don't think that it's quite rational but I really love her and I feel that I've known her trough her music and poetry. So, so, so proud to see her finally getting the recognition she deserves. I wish her and her grandma the best.

Well, the proof is in the pudding here. Love you Lana!

The way she talks about her family (specifically her mother) makes it seem as if she was the scapegoat or black sheep, and I think her fame and all the criticism she gets from the media, was a direct mirror reflection to help her uncover this. It’s in her lineage and it’s karmic because it’s always been set up that way for her. It’s a big life lesson for her for this lifetime. Childhood abuse is usually generational trauma.
