The lines "Light of my life" "Fire of my loins" Are references from a highly controversial novel called "Lolita" which was later adapted into a film of the same name. The story is about an older man named Hubert, falling in love with a 12 yr old peculiar girl named Dolores ..whom he affectionately calls as Lolita. Funfact: Lana has another song called Lolita.

@@jspettiferI’m not a huge Lana fan so if she did I’m sorry but I’ve always wondered because she has so many songs about grooming, if she has ever came out about being groomed herself. Some of her songs(like Carmen) talks about being young and doing all these things and the songs aren’t formed like an awareness but more like doing it.

This song is a rollercoaster ride if you listen to it as whole w/o stopping. It gets better with every listen. It is just amazing.

Rikers Island refers to a prison site in NY state, so by that she means her life is messy and criminal, yet he chooses to be by her side. One of my all time favorites by her. ✨

Lana is such a great story teller when it comes to her music and she’s a lyrical genius

Ciprianis basement is a luxury club in New York. She’s mentioned a few times that there’s a club and restaurant or two in New York where “I’m the reason for increased security”. Maybe it’s a reference to the story behind that statement.

A whole movie could be made out from this song...so particular and iconic

Funny that you mentioned Frank Sinatra when referring to Lana's music. She has stated in multiple interviews that her music style during the Born to Die era can be described as "gangster Nancy Sinatra". I find it amazing that you picked up on that vibe after listening to the song.

This one is sooo weird and I absolutely love it. It paints such a toxic picture and that's part of what it evokes, which I think is genius.

Revisiting old Lana's song with you, i made sure, again, that her first albums are pretty unique and have more vintage vibes with stunning instrumentals and retro sound implemented in each track. Hope one day she gets back to using this kind of style of music coz last albums shifted to another more indie and more simple music direction.
