The guitar and punchy faster beat, thats the one thing the actual album version is a slower beat with less punch (other than the first part after the violins) but it has its own personality but this is definitely more energy

Great version, sounds like 90’s second half & early 2000’s rock pop.

So, let's talk about the fact WHY almost everybody here supposes this demo is BETTER than the official version. My opinion WON'T really go for this. I have to admit that this version is good and kinda catchy. But with a general look, releasing the OFFICIAL version is a brilliant choice for Lana. That "modern and free American spirit" we can all notice in her songs isn't the true soul of this song - National Anthem. If you gain deep insights into the meaning of this song, you will have to reconsider. The story inside this song is like: "that girl who sees richness and money and fame shining inside her, with that wealthy man who starts to introduce her to a glamourous and luxurious lifestyle. Gradually, she begins to be a part of that materialistic world, she has changed. And finally, she has completely lost herself in that lifestyle, in money, in diamonds, in fame, in drugs... She is the "Queen of Saigon", the "fallen" queen...". The song is actually symbolizing and evoking the "old heyday" history of that "Uncle Sam". About Saigon, it is the largest city in Vietnam which was invaded by the US during the period from 55' to 75' of the 20th century. Briefly, the land is full of wars, deaths, and severeness until 1975. So that explained the National Anthem's lyrics - 'the land of sweetness and danger'. Also, there's a line about Bell Tower Hotel, a vintage hotel, a historical proof witness throughout all the dark times of the city. But it's still standing after so many years, that's why she sang "Keep me safe in his Bell Tower Hotel". But Saigon is also a name of the past, it is no longer used because the history was too violent, tragic, and catastrophic, which makes that queen no longer exist. - She is now the queen of the past, of something that used to matter. The queen was replaced, it's gone but not forgotten. Lana ends up by mentioning a "love story of the new age". This is what the world has come to... People are obsessed with pop culture, fame, and "material belongings". This crazed world of the famous is glamorized and the people in the spotlight often forget what's real in the end, all they have done is ruined their own lives... - "We're on a quick, sick rampage Winin' and dinin', drinkin' and drivin' Excessive buyin' overdose and dyin' On our drugs and our love and our dreams and our rage Blurring the lines between real and the fake."- As you can see now, this song is way imbued with these nostalgic, reminiscent, and wistful feelings and concerns. First, the demo with these strong beats never goes along well with the lyrics and meaning. It also overpowers her voice and the instrumental sounds too "pop". Then if you just want something tuneful to listen to, yes, it's ok. But Lana's music is much more than that. It's music for the soul - music to feel to. Second, the official instrumental has absolutely encapsulated the "dark and lonely" melancholy of Lana's feelings and also the Heroic melody like a real "National Anthem". Also with the music video, then we can see them all. This makes "national anthem" one of her best songs. From all of the reasons and analyses above, the official version is actually better in all aspects. *This is just my personal opinion* ____Thanks for reading___
