It’s not about heart break or anything like that, she’s trying to be the captain of her boyfriend’s ship, guiding him to happiness from his dark point of view. On BBC Radio 1 Lana said it’s about a time when she walked with a guy she was dating on the beach and walked by apartment complex. He put his hands on her shoulders and said, “I feel like we’re dating cuz we’re similar, we’re both messed up and dealing with shit” and Lana said, “Actually my life is going pretty well.” So he took her sad music style and past and thought that she was still going through it even though she was happy, and that’s why she wrote this song, to prove that she’s actually loving who she is and that everyone else should too. I believe at the end when she says “are you ready for it?” I think she means are you ready for change as if this song is the turning point for happier sounds.

Fantano, have you listened to the new Hozier tracks? He's even got Mavis Staples on one of them

I like this song more than I liked most of her more recent albums. It is moody and spacey and a little bit sleepy music, but with that said I have always found her singing intimate. She is not the number best but she conveys a lot of emotion, it's similar to how I wouldn't want to hear anyone other than David Byrne sing a David Byrne song. Not that Elizabeth has lyrics comparable to the Talking Heads. My most favourite music from her was her pre full on Lana. Lana Del Ray is the album and it had a lot more of a genuine feel given the simplicity most of the songs had to be on due to resource/time limitations. Unfortunately after that album she did go full into the industry and it payed of monetarily and popularity, but maybe not artistically. Either way I am very open to enjoying her singing and I agree entirely on being ludicrously heavy on the reverb, it is very sleepy music.

The best way I can explain her music is like Adele’s transition from 21&25 to 30, it doesn’t have to put you in a coma to be good, it doesn’t have to be exciting and constantly changing and being loud, it can be soft and relaxing. The one I didn’t really end up caring for is Venice Bitch. At first I thought “this is cool, more upbeat than Lana’s other music, it reminds me of west coast, it’s still got that haunting quality to it that all her music has.” Then 6 minutes in and I was thinking “why the hell is this still playing, there’s no new vocals other than screaming and panting” and by 8 minutes I was done with it. I really hope they release a stripped down 3:30 -4:00 version. If it was shorter, tighter, less aimless in its vocals it could easily be a Top 10 Single.

I'll be honest, I like the "painted on" lana del rey cheesy cliché melodramatic camp that many tend to dislike (cringy, I know, but that's what I like cus its silly and fun for me). So this was kinda not what I was looking forward to hear from her, but its still good. Maybe I'll give it another listen since I know to expect different. I have to agree, I do really like her voice stripped down like in this song. And it is much better than the last album's trap influenced tracks which I hated tbh.
