Hi, guys. How's it going? Kilian here. So in today's guitar lesson, we will cover Lana Del Rey's song Mariners Apartment Complex. I'm super excited for this one. This is one of my all time favorite songs, and after some initial issues, we finally made it happen because I wanted to upload the lesson yesterday as I announced in my update. But it wasn't possible because it was actually flagged because of the cover section that is included in the video.
Because of that, I had to rerecord the lesson and this is what I did today. So I basically recorded it, the acoustic guitars on the cover a second time. This time I recorded three overdubs of these guitars and a bass, because the thing is, now I had to leave out the original song, and because of that, it sounded strange. So I had to fill up all the sonic spectrum by basically doubling guitars and whatnot. And this is what I did, and it sounds pretty good, but it might sound off to you because it is basically left, right, and center, in relation to the metronome.
But this is because Lana glues the vocals so smoothly around the beat. And if you would listen to my guitar track on top of the original song, then it would sound pretty accurate. But as I said, this is unfortunately not possible due to copyright reasons. So I had to get creative and what I did is, I recorded the guitars over the original track. Then I muted the original track, and then I added doubles for the acoustic guitar and the bass line on top of it. And this is what we're working with now.
Anyways, as I say in the video, I will record multiple versions of guitar lessons for Lana Del Rey's Mariners Apartment complex because I think there are multiple ways to play it, and also there are multiple levels of difficulty that you can play the song at.
The first version, which is this version will be the Advanced Mariners Apartment Complex guitar lesson. The upcoming video will be the easy Mariners apartment Complex guitar lesson. I also said in the video that I'm going to link the respective other version in the description down below, so if you watch the advanced version, you will find a link to the easy version in the description. And then you will also find a link to the advanced version in the description of the easy version.
This lesson also follows my newly found structure, which is basically I will talk a little bit about the song and the tuning and tips and tricks in the intro of the video. Then we are transitioning to the cover, which is a close up shot of the fretboard, where you can exactly see what I'm playing, and also see the chords in the lower thirds.
After the cover, we move on to the breakdown where I break down each section of the song step by step and talk you through the courts, and also my tips and tricks on in that section. And after that follows the outro.
