    Definitely sucks to have to admit when your car has an issue, the same experience I had with my new Corvette transmission failing. But glad you included it! Also, Lambo Dallas is awesome, hope to buy from them within the next few years

    Great video! Really interesting to see the true details on the costs of a supercar! Big thumbs up from Finland !

  • @71ala
    @71ala8 жыл бұрын

    Great video, thanks! I confirm that supercar ownership costs are very much down to "good luck" or "bad luck". I have owned a Ferrari F355 in which the engine failed - for no apparent reason at all. The car was fully serviced, and it lived a pampered life. Go figure. Then I had a 550 Maranello that cost ZERO to maintain - ok, just an oil change per year and new tires, otherwise it was as reliable as a Camry, for 40,000 miles! Then the Maseratis: Gransport, Granturismo S - all excellent cars. No problems at all except for the clutch going at 20,000 miles (but a lot cheaper to replace than the Lambo's). So if you feel lucky go for it... but always keep a spare 10K in the bank available "just in case"...

    Very informative video!! Thanks Can you tell me if the second generation Gallardo has better maintenance schedule? Any maintenance information on the Huracan? I would like to know more information on the new Huracan maintenance cost? Currently I have 2011 GT3RS, it is a visceral car. I enjoyed the RS responsiveness. How would you compare the driving sensation from a gallardo, Huracan and the GT3RS? Which car would you like to drive?

    Very informative. Averaging around $1 per kilometre per year with my Maserati GT at the moment. Luckily it has a ZF auto so no expensive clutch changes. But as you correctly say, maintenance is a reason why some of these cars aren't daily drivers.

    I think the filters and fluids can be done on your own. I would throw a dash cam when you get service just to see how much time they ACTUALLY spent working on your car. Replacing lines takes more then 12 hours? I think they burn you because the price of the car is so substantial.

    With your expensive issue (this is why I will never consider an E-Gear, no offense), sure, I can see where you would say the cost of ownership for your Gallardo is $1-$2 per mile, but without that issue, where would you be? These cars are rather reliable as far as exotics are concerned, bar a couple common issues (the E Gear lines being one of them). Would you still have the same opinion on cost of ownership if you had better luck with yours? All cars require maintenance, and the Gallardo is no different, but just with routine maintenance (no repairs being made) they are actually fairly affordable.

  • @Santiago_GonzalezC
    @Santiago_GonzalezC8 жыл бұрын

    Hahah that's why I looked so hard for the manual transmission gallardo that I now own after 10 years of seating up and I've own it for 2 years and no problems at all that's why the e-gear is a bad option for transmission on the o4 gallardo cause after the 05 version had a much better transmission

  • @Beolex
    @Beolex8 жыл бұрын

    This is why I'm turned off by e-gear... it'd be different if it was actually a decent transmission, but the shifting on 1st-gen e-gears isn't great, can be matched or beaten by a good manual driver. The e-gear hates reverse especially on inclines. The e-gear will sometimes slip the clutch if you're cruising in low speeds in 2nd gear because it "thinks" it's bogging so it wants to add gas. Sometimes e-gear won't shift past 2nd or won't go into gear at all, anything from a $70 dollar relay to a $500 dollar electric motor to a $1,000 dollar pump, plus hydraulic lines which you experienced. Long story short, I don't think this transmission is "good enough" to justify the higher operating costs. It'd be different if you were comparing a 7-speed manual Porsche 911 to a 7-speed PDK Porsche 911. The PDK will have slightly higher running costs but its a much better transmission all around. I feel like owning an e-gear is like ordering a hamburger but being charged for a steak... sure it tastes good but I'll take a hamburger with similar taste that has realistic hamburger pricing.

    How much is it to maintain yourself? How many other owners have you met that take care of their own maintenance?

  • @customX09
    @customX098 жыл бұрын

    '04 Gallardos (both manual and e-gear) have super tall first gear ratios that result in a ton of clutch slippage when you're pootling around town. That combined with the weak pre-refresh clutches why they burn through them so quickly. The '05+ cars, in particular the LP560, are supposedly much better. Better still is buying a rare manual car so you have no hydraulic lines, e-gear pumps, and expensive actuators to worry about. Or just lease a new Ferrari with 7 yrs/unlimited mileage warranty and included maitennance.

    in the uk we have independent sevice centers for most cars, even lambos and ferrari. you can buy a new car and take it to eny garage to have it serviced and still keep the warranty. Thr dealer monopoly has been broken. Main dealer, say Ford £130 per hour. independent £50 per hour. iv had experience with both. The indy don't have a fancy waiting area with pot plants ect and a big glass show room. Thats what you pay for at main dealers. A friend has is oil and filter changed every 6000 miles ,£35 at is local indy. oh the cars done 300000 miles no faults. His work mate got the same car and followed the sevice intervals to the book at main dealer. This car had more faults than a tennis match. Both the same car.

    Thanks for sharing and being honest, I find it annoying that high cost item is so unreliable. As an engineer, I have decent understanding why its so, low volume means higher cost parts to be profitable, plus not enough money to test the cars properly to fix issues... despite this, its still ridiculous. I will stick with Porsche's for now, they have more common sense than most of the sports car makers. I know this is somewhat relative, but I cant bring myself to spend that kind of money on maintenance, price of admission is one thing, I shouldn't have to worry so much if the car is going to start....

I've had a few exotics since then and I will break it down in maintenance costs. 2007 Gallardo: Drove 15k miles in one year - $11k (Blew the egear transmission hose twice, e gear transmission pumped needed to be replaced, needed new tires and general service) 2008 Superleggera: Drove 13k miles in on year - $3800 (Service and needed a set of Pirelli Corsa Tires) 2011 Audi R8 V10: Drove 25k miles in a year and half - $2500 ($1000 for Audi care which covers service for 4 years and $1500 for tires) - awesome car! 2011 Ferrari 458: Drove 17k miles in a year and half- $3000 ( Car has warranty, just needed basic service) 2014 SLS Black series $0 - Has factory warranty ;) 2012 C63 Black series $0 - Has Factory warranty ;)

    The insurance is 3,000 dollars per month or per year?

  • @Benautodesign

    It's not that bad. For a simple 2.7 Boxster 986 base (something that you can buy for less than 9000$), I paid more than 3000$ on parts alone this year, and I did everything myself, it would have been another 3000+$ on labor ! So, not that bad considering you have more than twice the power ;)

    It cost about 4 grand on average for a young persons car insurance each year in my area. It would cost me 300 to 400 a month for me to have a 2000 Malibu.

    That insurance is a lot lower than I thought it would be. With my family there is three of us and we have three vehicles and we share the three cars. Dad told me that per year insurance is 3100$. So 100$ more for about 140k worth of cars. Plus they are Toyotas so thats great

    I called the McLaren Store a 650S is 2400 bucks for the first year and 3600 Second year or every 10,000 miles...They alternate between those two. They spend 3-4 days with the car bring it to factory speck. They said this prevents a lot of bad things happening later...So who knows! They expect service costs for the new 570S to be a little cheaper.

    Mclarens are pretty reliable in the supercar world. They aren't bad at all. Just wish their styling was better since the 650S & MP4-12c look exactly the same all they did was change the headlights

    +OGKiid94 The mclaren is crazy expensive to maintain. Check the cost of something simple like a new battery for the MP4-12C. It's thousands. There are also no independents that really can work on them or scan them so your stuck with the few and far between dealers, and the dealers know this. Mclarens sell at a discount off msrp brand new while Ferrari's and some Lamborghini's sell well above msrp when new.

    This is the reason why if I am ever fortunate enough to have enough money to consider buying a supercar, I would get an NSX because I simply can't fathom spending that much on maintenance.

    As a gear head /car guy / engineering student you should learn to do at least the basic services if not more yourself. That part of the fun of being a car guy and owning a car like the Lambo etc.
