Lamb of God's Mark Morton: 5 Riffs I'm Most Proud Of

Музыка

In the premiere episode of “5 Riffs I’m Most Proud Of” - in which guitarists discuss the five favorite riffs they’ve ever written - Lamb of God axman Mark Morton (whose debut solo record, 'Anesthetic,' drops on March 1st via Spinefarm Records) tells us the origin stories of the riffs he’s most proud of, from "Cross Off" to "Descending." “It’s a tough crowd there, in the Lamb of God writing sessions,” Morton reveals. “‘Descending’ was a big stinker at the beginning that caused problems. [Laughs] So now whenever we play it live, I take a certain unique sense of pride in seeing the front row singing it all back to us because I’m like, ‘See? I told you guys this was a banger.’” Watch the video to find out the rest of his picks.

Walk With Me In Hell, Descending, Blacken The Cursed Sun..... playing those 3 songs on guitar was part of my daily warmup routine. Wow, dude I though so at first, but then comparing it with Slither I couldn't match it... Went down a couple of songs and ended with the verdict; 'Thoughts Of A Dying Ateist'. Just try to blend the riffs with an audio editor, comes out near perfect I think...

As the palaces burn album is my favorite. Ashes of the wake and sacrament are great too, but As the Palaces Burn is very unique in it's riffs and lyrics content. I love As the palaces burn, ruin, Vigil, and Boot Scraper so much. The express a sort of under class rage that is so relatable right now. I mean that rage has always been relatable in any class society, but I think a lot of working class people could listen to Boot Scraper for instance and be like, hey maybe it is time to turn and bite that hand that's bleeding us dry. Vigil is a supreme expression of this in my view. That section "Sickness to you my master!" gives me chills to this day. So powerful and radical.

my favorite 5 riffs are 1. opening to 11th hour. 2. blood of the scribe 3. break you. 4. for your malice 5. now you've got somethign to die for... he has inspired every song i've written, from what i've learned from playing his music and chris adler's work from those two albums. like descending, mozart would use a melody in different ways, and its fun to use a bridge or riff that develops the song in different ways, though you are playing the same thing over again.
