The Red textile which covers the body of the drum is to represent the bloody cloth Jusus wear during his passion and the leather strings that rounds and tied the body of the drum represents the whip that they used to torture him. Am Ethiopian, who grew up in the capital city now residing in the US. Am planning to visit Lalibela soon, God willing 🙏 It's my dream to go back and settle in Lalibela and engage in some type of heritage preservation job. Too many conflicts & wars are threatening the security of this sacred place.

You're right- there are too many conflicts in Lalibela. This land should be forbidden from being anywhere near a war zone. I am so thrilled to know about Lalibela and the history of its sacred churches, and how people walk hundreds of miles to be there to worship. It's so amazing how the churches were chiseled out of solid stone, and the different types of stone in one building...some hard and some very soft. I'm amazed that people are still allowed to walk through them as old and delicate as they are. It was great how you showed us the true life in Lalibela and how friendly everyone seems to be. The spinning cotton into thread was great. I loved the market. You did a fantastic job of showing us all aspects of Lalibela.❤

When I went for Christmas a few ago, my mouth dropped when I saw all the people making their pilgrimage!! It was such a beautiful sight… many of them had been walking for weeks. Crazy to think about - but such a testament to their dedication. It seems like you also did your own research on ethe buildings- I did not know different types stone were found within the one piece. Very interesting and I’m glad you had such interest to dive deeper! Love this! Yes, everyone was sooo friendly!! They really made my trip special.
